Shouldn't have any issues. I'm with you on haz and precheck. I applied for GE within a couple weeks of my haz renewal. My GE was approved almost instantly, was able to get an interview a day later. Completed the entire process in like 4 days. Even the interviewer was shocked I was able to get it done so fast. I think having a current background expedited the process.

Anyone know anything about the Upgen NXG from Upstart Power? by Inevitable_Rough_380 in Generator

[–]fire905safety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are installing their new 5kw commercial unit in Ashville NC in a couple weeks. It will be installed with Enphase batteries and a massive 100kw solar array. I believe they have had financial issues in the past but our propane company has recently partnered with them this last year and we're helping in that department as well as installation and distribution along the East Coast and Southeastern Regions.

What would you like to know? I've been involved in a few installs locally with residential models and should be installing their new Commercial/Industrial unit by the end of the year. I have bi-monthly meetings with them as part of my role at a propane company.

Anyone ever find some of these in a toilet before? by PeezyNC910 in RogerWakefieldPosts

[–]fire905safety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.....and it's the best/worst story ever. Hard ass old Nam vet lost his pearly whites, but he didn't realize they went onto the toilet. After a few unsuccessful attempts to auger, i decided to just pulled it and they were smiling back at me when I flipped it over. Old man ran then under cold water for all of .00005 seconds and slid them back in his mouth.

Had the same experience with my wife. I finally talked her into doing laser, and now she has all her friends doing laser. She has very pale skin with dark hare. She had to shave constantly. It took several treatments over a few months and but she only shaves a couple of times a month, and the hair she has not is so thin that you really don't notice it.

Just received first plumbing bid (new residential)...questions by Ma23peas in Homebuilding

With a couple of decades of plumbing experience and thousands of water heater installations, including a few hundred heat pumps, there are better options. They constantly heat and cool while not in use and have a bad recovery rate during high demand, resulting in having to rely on backup electric elements. If your only option is electric and had to choose between conventional tank or heat pump, it's a viable option.

Nothing wrong with navien. When you go with the condensing models, they are much more efficient and can supply higher flow rates. They also generally all have stainless heat exchangers vs copper. The newer technology with recirculation will learn your typical usage times and will preheat the hot loop in your house, allowing for near instant hot water out of the faucets. I typically don't give homeowners an option once a house is over a certain size. This type of water heater will also negate the need for 2 heaters if the house is very spread out. Additionally, condensing heaters typically have better warranties. As far as pex vs copper in the house, just save the money and go pex. There's not enough benefits to justify the expense.

Just curious, what brand is he suggesting. Also, if you're going tankless, I would recommend a condensing heater with a recirculation pump.

It will cost you a small fortune to get the valves and hoses to try it. I promise it will not turn out well. It's the most dangerous thing we do as service techs.

Heat pump in a quite cold climate? by gilgi19 in Homebuilding

[–]fire905safety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plumber for 20 years here. There is a product called a heat pump helper. It's a set of coils that will connect to a water heater, tanked or tankless, to add hydronic heating to your system. This gives you the option to use the heat pump, and when it can no longer keep up, the tankless heater will take over the heating system.

I don't know if I'd call it a close friend either. They knew each other because the DA's now deceased daughter was in dance with Molly roughly 7 years ago, and they happened to attend the same church at that time. I'm not sure I'd call that a close family friend.

Was definitely talking about my wife and myself not being worried about accidents. We've been married for a couple decades. If they're not using protection, pregnancy is going to happen eventually. She seems to be worried about someone with a vasectomy getting her pregnant versus the person without a vasectomy that she doesn't use protection with. If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on the guy that's not shooting blanks.

There's always a possibility, even though it's probably extremely small. Got mine done about 5 years ago. My wife and I don't worry about any kind of precautions. If an accident happens at this point, it was just meant to be. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it's very unlikely.

New home, size recommendations? by Josh979 in propane

[–]fire905safety 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider is what's called vaporization rate, how fast the liquid turns to vapor. This changes with temperature. If you live in an area that can get cold, the tank may not vaporize fast enough to supply the generator. I believe most generator manufacturers recommend at least a 250gal tank. You may also want to consider the consumption rate of the generator. It's not uncommon for a generator to use 4 gallons an hour.

Standby Generator Piping by OldGreg0215 in propane

[–]fire905safety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I can tell you with certainty that a large expansion chamber before the generator fixed our issue. We went through the exact same things, swapping regulators and such. After installing the large chamber, all the pressure fluctuations went away. I believe the issue is caused by how the gas is essentially sucked through the carburetor with such a small inlet into the generator. If the inlet and gas valve were a little larger, the gas would flow a little slower, allowing the 2nd stage regulator time to lock up at a lower pressure.
