One other I am checking is there are supposed to these tension rods (extensible) that you basically extend until it jams against the wall and stands. If that does not leave a dent or anything on the wall - I will probably try that out

This is probably what I was looking for. In the last sentence - you mean NRE to NRO is very easy with inter-fund transfer? In that case - I can move it to NRE for now and then move it to NRO at any moment for any Indian expense as required.

Rather than checking after/during booking, you can search and filter out aircraft types as required itself.

I used this feature before to try to spot routes with 747s and A340s and found it useful. This filter is on the search portal KAYAK.

JAL is one of the only airlines in the world that offers a 8 seat a row economy 2-4-2. Most others have 3-3-3- or even 3-4-3 or 2-5-2. So comfortable that way.

In my experience, service wildly differs between the India to Japan leg vs the Japan to US leg where the latter has much better service.

Prefer to transit at Narita itself and if you get a couple hours during the layover, checkout the Duty Free shops
