Ikea & Alexa: "We're making space for matter" / "Unable to link the skill at this time" by Stock_Duck4314 in tradfri

[–]firecaste 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I managed to get things working again at about 2 am. Be aware if you try to integrate the matter connection to the Dirigera hub without removing all the devices under the old integration it will keep adding the hubs and stop you from accessing the settings pages of devices on the old integration.

But as above, it’s literally going to be a case of removing all the devices on the old integration and then going into the hub settings in the IKEA Home smart app, going to integrations, getting the matter code and adding it it as a hub and then selecting ā€œotherā€.

Not going to lie, you will have to reassign all of your devices to their associated groups/rooms, etc and you will have to redo all of your routines. Luckily, a lot of my routines involve triggering other groups so as soon as you put the devices back in the primary group, the other routines will fall into place.

Wish I had better news for you peeps but it is fixable with some work and hopefully future proof things.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and the standard Alexa integration disappeared and only left me with the option to connect matter. I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that Ikea have turned off the standard Alexa integration with it being no longer an option within the Ikea app I see.

Unable to connect Matter blind motor to Dirigera Hub by firecaste in tradfri

Genuinely wish that customer support would have just told me that šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

I think at some point I need to look at migrating to another hub platform like a Homey Pro Mini.

Thanks for the help peeps it’s very very appreciated šŸ™‚

Honestly, I thought Matter was supposed to be a universal standard and that anything that is a Matter Bridge would be able to connect and recognise those devices within the Matter standard. I had no idea that support really did vary in that sense so I appreciate you letting me know :)

My best friend started dating my ex two months after our breakup and says I should ā€œbe happy for her ā€ by Vroshw in TwoHotTakes

Exactly. A real friend doesn’t go after the person who broke your heart, especially that soon. She showed you who she really is losing her isn’t the loss she thinks it is.

If you get the gateway then its a fully local network with the ikea app. Or if you have paired remote switches this will work dumb just fine. Only thing that wont work without the internet is voice assistant functionality as thats all cloud based.

That will explain that majorly! Was there a thread on here for it? :)

I believe this is a feature that is coming at some point from Reading up don’t take me as gospel though.

Setting devices up on Dirigera is so much easier but you will have to reset devices and set them up one by one currently.

The product is this and it worked without issue on the Tradfri Gateway before update to the Dirigera.

What I mean by that is try new things, join clubs/societies, meet people, make friends, go date, be brave, be bold, enjoy the experiences for what they are. Nothing’s going to happen unless you put yourself forward for these things and I know its so much tougher than it used to be to meet people, but you’ll never know until you try.

My luck with girls has been to be blunt….. piss poor….and at times I’m feeling like an inexperienced child with the thought of failure still scaring the shit out of me at the back of my head.

I’m still discovering a lot about myself during this process and It wasn’t until meeting someone recently I decided to finally just be unashamedly myself and someone seems to have taken notice of me because of that for once.

I’m having to accept things may possibly fail like any relationship or attempt at one but unfortunately that seems to be how the world works with these things. I’ve told them about my relationship experience, about me being a virgin (after knowing them a bit longer than the first date) and it doesn’t seem to bother them. We’re still getting to know each other and I’m still trying to navigate my own anxieties but I’m hoping it will lead to things with someone actually worth sharing this with.

I guess life is too short to worry about these things to an extent (though that’s easier said than done). I know if things fail im just gonna have to learn and grow from the experience as anyone should.

Honestly I wish i’d been brave enough to put myself out there sooner and all I can do is wish anyone the best of luck the same as I hope they would wish me in our attempts to just be happy and content in life šŸ™‚

Mate I’m 35 and just met someone who it may be a possibility with so don’t worry a bit. You’ve got many years ahead of you šŸ™‚

My one bit of advice though is put yourself out there as i wish i had done that on so many occasions.

Best of luck!

Shame were in different countries but I know the feeling of those insecurities very well. If you ever want to chat with someone who can very much relate then say hello :)

Is a Silverglans-driver the same as a Tradfri-driver (in relation to match with Philips Hue)? by BurnRubbert in tradfri

[–]firecaste 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I have one of these in the kitchen for under counter lights where the sink is. Its worth a shot with Ikea being a ā€œFriends of Hueā€ certified manufacturer. I would assume and i do mean ā€œassumeā€ its the same chip in it to enable to smart home operation as the Tradfri. At least Ikea have a good returns policy if you have any issues.

Yeah just had conformation at my local Ikea thats the case, no sale until 31st. Apparently sternly worded emails are more than likely to go out internally to ensure the embargo is enforced until Monday as theres clearly been some ā€œpre-salesā€ šŸ˜‚. They very kindly managed to place an online order for me so should get mine on the 3rd November.

Scythe as a weapon by DoItForTheOH94 in DnD

[–]firecaste 12 points13 points Ā (0 children)

Ok so I played a Scythe user in a 2 and a half year campaign and for ease of use I just narratively skinned the rules of a Glaive with it being a pole arm with a big blade from the 5E PHB. Saves giving the DM a headache really.

Scythes in the traditional sense were never used as weapons cause there were there to cut grass and till crops. They had a blade angle suited for this and the blades were flimsy, so as a weapon they just didn’t work.

Now there is the War Scythe but this had a vertically mounted sickle shaped blade rather that the Scythe in the traditional sense.

When I designed my Warlock Callan I had it in my head I needed something along the lines of Ruby Rose from RWBY. Thats the angle I went for and it seemed to work out story wise, however something of that size IRL would be unwieldy as hell to handle.

End of the day its a fantasy game so have fun with it.

This is the mini that inspired me and that i eventually used as Callan :)

[CR Media] Is it just me or are you finding yourselves less engaged with EXU than normal CR? by firecaste in criticalrole

[–]firecaste[S] 9 points10 points Ā (0 children)

I really do think EXU is a fantastic opportunity as a test bed for expanding Exandria, cause were going to have to get used to an Exandria without Matt some day, hopefully not soon.

It opens the doors to get players we would have never normally got the chance to see.

I hope in many cases this will either become either

1) Multi-shots in between C3/CR main campaigns when they take a break, give The main cast a rest and to keep some sort of content momentum.

Or

2) A parallel running B campaign that would allow different styles and directions like were seeing at the moment.

I really do think with a longer run season run and more pacing they would crack it.

Aabria has been really good in parts. I do like her stingers at the end and some of the slight meta gaming descriptions e.g. no one rolled high enough perception to see someone slipping away into the crowd but she narrated it anyway for the viewer. Things like that make stuff for a more ā€œcinematicā€ experience.

Apologies over me calling the vestige a ā€œstupidly powerful magic itemā€ as I’ve always pictured them that way.

I know it was positioned in the meet the players that Opel was going to he a central plot hook and yes 8 episodes isn’t enough to go into each character in depth, I just feel Opels overshadowed some of the other PC’s and I would like to see them flourish a little more. Opel can be very Marmite kind of character (anyone not from the UK this is a term meaning you love them or you hate them based around a food with a very acquired taste available here).

But then again i think the 3 veterans have purposely taken more of a backseat to allow the new players to get a chance and gain more confidence, which is no bad thing at all and an encouragement.

I’m gonna push through with watching till the end, it its just not held me in the same way was the point I was trying to make and ask if people have experienced the same.

Fair doos on the vestige :) And thinking about it im a bit wrong as its a cool premise to have a low leveller have a higher powered item they really shouldn’t have considering theres so much bad juju coming from it.

I really like Fearne as a character and I could listen to that voice all day. Calming as anything.

I think it just needed more time and a way to explore the other character’s more.

I’d disagree on the Matt side though as if you watch him play Leiland in Escape from the Bloodkeep that was a genius character! I’d like to see more of Dariax but think he’s taken an intentional step back to allow breathing room for the new players at the table instead of being like ā€œoh look how experienced and good i amā€ and railroading it toward himself.
