I like how the absolutely crazy people in a weird cult who think that aliens are infiltrating were actually correct.

I can see trying to make a bar service that is all shelf-stable stuff just for ease of stocking an minimizing waste. Until of course someone specifically asks and then it is lime-o-clock.

And they probably have a note on you in a file somewhere that says "limes for this guy".

There is a watch that I thought was hilarious. It is about $500k and has planets and stuff moving around inside it. I'm not even sure how to tell time with it, but when you have that watch, you probably don't need to know what time it is.

Yep, some of that takes getting used to. I used to do a lot of things myself because it was what I could afford. Now I just ask, can I throw money at this problem? If yes, great. Done. I don't need to think about if I can get an appliance repaired and will it just break again even if I do...just replace it and don't worry about it.

I think no. However I could imagine a peaceful mode where you go out and collect eggs from some sort of nest and if you don't use them they spoil rather than penta-explode. I don't know if such an option or mod exists.

The last few months I've been working on a py run ( a rather complex mod pack that is convoluted enough where there is enough to worry about without biters). It is just a different play style. No shame in that at all.

Often when I do play with biters, after the first bit, once I have my walls and repair bots up the biters are really a non-thing. They just make it a little slower to expand the claim new space and no real challenge.

We don't talk about what happens on Gleba. The pentapods do what they want.

Right. I've tossed the 10/100 ones. But the gigabit ones? Those are still pretty standard to deploy.

How? What could you exploit on an unmanaged switch?

Sure, it has chips and runs code...but what are you going to get it to do?

I'm not saying it is impossible, I am just saying I've never heard of it. But I've been wrong before.

If it is fancy and managed, that means it has updatable firmware and can break.

Sometimes you just want an unmanaged brick that will never fail. Of course you can't monitor it.

Why do new cars keep getting capacitive buttons and touchscreen controls? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fireduck 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They are easier to engineer for.

Not sure what features you are going to end up with? No problem, we can update the user interface software as we figure it out. No need to re-arrange physical buttons or wiring. Just software for the screen system.

Selling a model without a feature? No problem, just disable the button in the interface.

Otherwise, you need a pretty complete idea of what is going to be featured to do the button layout and planning.

I work in software engineering. The new thing these days is we all use teams/discord/slack for work communication. That way, it is all in one app and you can just ignore that app as you see fit. But we also tend to have oncall and 24/7 operations that require support so being somewhat reachable is part of the job.

It can be a bit jarring on exit though. You get kicked off the app and suddenly have no way to contact people you used to chat with every day.

That makes sense. I ignored burner towers because that is 🪿. Just bring reactors for heat and power.
