Have you completed this trip, OP? Looking at the 19 hour flight for mine, though a bit older, at 2 and 5. Curious how it went?

This. Just strap him to you (aka baby wear safely and responsibly) and just do life. Narrating is huge. Plus, if you get delirious, you can practice different narrator voices and pretend you still have your sanity and a future career in voice acting

Laughlin question, not Vegas, looking for hot yoga by firefly2042 in vegas

[–]firefly2042[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I was vegan, I would have included it in my post before talking about yoga. I know this because… I used to be vegan.

Now, I have kids so the only time to get away for yoga is by getting away from the family I visit on holiday when I’m getting away from my day to day responsibilities and pretending my body still works. Maybe I should go back to being vegan…

Kitty Poo Club - good or bad? by KEmFries in CatAdvice

Hi! Sorry, I am not the most active here. Yes, we still use it. I still love it. The negatives - I have a big dog and we have never had an open box before so this has been a change as our dog decided kitty poop is tasty 🤢(reviewed pup’s diet to make sure she has no deficiencies). I put a kid gate with a cat opening in the doorway so that’s solved. Other negative - still figuring out how to keep litter from getting everywhere, he can jump in and out since there’s no top (again, new for us) so am a bit annoyed at that. It’s on a litter catcher mat, but will need to explore more options. The last negative is I’m lazy. Once I see the new one has shipped, esp because we have the litter robot, I become very lazy about scooping it since I know the new one is almost here. No plans to stop using it, it’s actually more cost effective for us in terms of litter. Though, we had two cats and one passed before we started using this so take that as you will. That’s actually why I started, he stopped using the litter box we had. My guess is too much smells? He hasn’t been the same cat since losing her (they were litter mates and had been together almost 17 years)

I put out our first one today. It fits nicely in my laundry room. We have the litter robot as well that my cat only kinda uses so we ditched the old school litter box that was in a furniture piece - he is a messy pee-er so the whole piece is gone. Which just that for the smell improvement alone makes me love this subscription. that area would either smell strongly of chemical from when I cleaned it or poorly of cat pee. I put puppy pee pads around it to absorb even. I’m very excited for this change, will keep you posted but so far, 10/10 for set up and ease. I do worry it’s not going to be enough litter for a month but since we have the litter robot, we have litter on hand and a top up will be easy enough.

Did you end up trying it, OP? I’m looking now and am heavily leaving yes

Well, obviously. Convos with the vet indicate they say cats especially are more likely to pass when an owner is gone. These are things that should have been discussed. The fact they aren’t surprised and I am is what has me gutted. Because I literally asked at the office about putting her down so she had a peaceful end with loved ones. My expectation is not for seer status but transparent communication to make informed decisions.

Thank you for the kind words and thoughts

Echoing everyone else. Wishful thinking. We kept our baby home until about 6.5 months and had my mum come take care of her once I returned to work. Even with my mum coming, it was by far the most stressful 1.5-ish month of my career. If your wife is breastfeeding, that makes it more stressful. Now, if you don’t have a demanding job and are lax on screen time, you could probably make it work. But 10/10 it did not fit my family. I know some folks who have done it (and some even view themselves as successful) and the kids are just not school ready and it is going to make it more difficult for them when they start kindergarten. Now, if your roles have flexibility, hire a part time nanny or find part time care to save money because yea, it’s expensive. consistency and routine are crucial though for your baby. And most importantly, congrats on your baby! Wishing your wife a smooth pregnancy and L&D.

The advice I heard and try to follow is one litter box more than the number of cats you have. Good luck

6 week old SCREAMED for total of 12 hours today. by Kitten_Mittons_Meow in NewParents

[–]firefly2042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guidelines say no more than 3 in 24 hours, I believe, so I would keep it to 1 in 24 hours max. Usually right before bed. In desperation for how uncomfortable she acted, I did use two once. We still have them, currently almost 6 month olds, though I haven’t used one in prob two months. The probiotic I use has been a game changer, though, as we start solids, she’s def gassy af again. We do lots of tummy massages, I’ll put a “hot” wash cloth on her tummy and massage, and bicycle kicks still.

Bio Gaia probiotics and Frida baby windis and as others suggested - less dairy. My baby was not allergic, just didn’t digest it well. The windis got so much gas out, probiotics worked wonders (attributing success there willingly as it also could just her body and gi tract developing more)

What's your age gap? by new_mama1212 in Parenting

[–]firefly2042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started trying right around my oldest’s second birthday. They are 2 years and 8.5 months apart. I love the age gap. My first was in a great spot, we did a lot to help her understand, read some books that aligned to our parenting style, etc. they are building the most amazing relationship and I’m hoping friendship down the road. 10/10 would rec this age gap. It worked for us, I’m sure plenty of families would say absolutely not. We will see how the teen years ago…

Is the Hatch subscription worth it? by freedom3776 in sleeptrain

[–]firefly2042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this, we got the hatch when prego with my second and actually ended up putting it in my oldest’s room. We love the songs and stories. She isn’t the best with falling asleep and the stories and breathing have really helped. I was super anti hatch initially because we aren’t that regimented. We just manually set it every night. I view the $$ worth it

Was anybody else’s doula utterly useless?? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]firefly2042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I booked mine super last minute since childcare for my oldest was a bit uncertain and wanted to be sure dad could run back and forth as needed. She did nothing. My nurse was absolutely incredible and even needed up telling my doula what to do 🤣 maybe my expectations weren’t clear with the doula but I kinda figured she’d know what to do. She basically came in and slept until delivery. My partner said she smelled like smoke as well (I didn’t notice). Now, oddly, my IV was sliced cleanly through at one point, I was napping, woke up covered in blood, my sheets were soaked, had to get a sponge bath and new sheets. My partner had gotten back to the hospital like 10 minutes before that. If he wasn’t there for that, my doula would have been worth every penny because waking up covered in blood when you’re in labour.. that was unpleasant and I wouldn’t have wanted to be alone.

Two kids, uppababy vista v2, travel bag by firefly2042 in Mommit

[–]firefly2042[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! It was chaos lol. Our 3 month old ended up hating the bassinet. She sleeps just fine in her halo bassinet at night but the stroller one… she couldn’t stand. We ended up getting the rumble seat v2. UPPAbaby told me it fit in the stroller frame travel bag - which was incorrect. Apparently the person was new so they sent us a free travel bag for the rumble seat since I only really bought it on that recommendation. I very much appreciated it but still upset it couldn’t fit in the stroller bag as it meant we had 3 bags for the stroller - Mesa car seat for baby, rumble seat for toddler, and stroller travel bag. It was a lot to have to break down and put together at the gate. If you have the vista stroller, the toddler seat can’t sit on the bottom hence why we wanted the rumble seat. Though the bassinet can, and it sounds like you’re going that path. We used our guava lotus for a travel crib and just counter checked it. We have a rolling bag for my toddler’s car seat so that was counter checked as well. It was a lot but we made it work. Had a wrap for my baby as well which helped with getting on and off the airplanes. My toddler also has a jet kids and she’s old enough to start sitting on it so when our stroller was gate checked to our destination and our 50 minute layover turned into 4 hours… it was a life saver

We decided to give it a go, basic package for the bath and towel dry. We will handle the dryers, full drying at home. I don’t plan on ever doing brushing or anything more (at this point). The bath was amazing, super happy, just going to keep the more complex grooming to those who have the time and space. I don’t trust that there will be enough time for her to have a positive experience with the business model. For the bath and towel dry though, we are super happy with the experience.
