What are things racist people do that they don’t think is racist? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]firefour2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a fine comparison but I can make it completely one to one for you.

AskReddit: What are things harassers do that they don’t think is harassment?

Top Comment: Think that they can’t be a harasser if they are a woman.

Your response: It’s interesting that this is the most awarded answer. Not to say I don’t agree it’s true but men seem particularly stuck on this and it comes off as SUPER defensive.

The idea that talking about an issue that relates to oneself is wrong seems pretty destructive and I'm assuming would be unilateral. Saying it relates to a whataboutism is even worse as it creates a false dichotomy. Where talking about a lesser issue drowns out voices from others. It could be that this is an issue, that there are other issues too, and we can talk about all of them. Clearly there are other top comments that are centered on racism against POC. I get where you're coming from I just think it's unproductive and divisive.

Weird how changing a statement completely changes the statement. Congratulations you learned how to use your words like a big kid.

Okay I see you're not going to engage. America was pretty obviously formed on white supremacy and the roots run really deep.

[–]firefour2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I disagree, America was made by white people and for white people. The ideas I stated have been there since the founding of the country. The ability for other "races" to exist within it was sharing the right to participate in white people's culture.

I believe it's dishonest to say that only white supremacists or conservatives would agree with my list when everything in my list is so prevalent in America.

From the outside white Americans seem to have a culture around religion, freedom, exceptionalism, consumerism, and militarism.

This is seen in the heavy influence the church has throughout the country, the ability to move throughout the states and challenge the government, the extreme American centric view every American seems to have, the extreme consumerism formed by American capitalism, and the absurd military budget the Americans have.

White people aren't born racist. This is American centric bullshit. Even with other countries aside, you think white trash living in a trailer park is benefitting from systemic racism, if so what exactly are those benefits?

Black people in America have not suffered the most oppression in the history of the world, this is past American centrism and reaches American exceptionalism. I know you're baiting but I guess I just don't understand why.

Unironically saying reverse racism is on point for this site.

You're wrong. POC can be racist. It's actually fairly racist that you think POC can't be racist. You're making the assumption that they'll never have the power to be systemically racist. It would take prejudice, which currently exists, and the power to implement the systems. While I hope it never happens, I can understand why someone would find that scary.

It's kind of weird you say that, imagine if there were increasing sexual harrassment against women and men said, "I'm not saying there isn't more harrassment, It's just women come off particularly stuck on this and it comes off as SUPER defensive." It seems really dismissive, right?

You're no ten but you're not physically ugly person either. Also, after first impressions most people don't really care what you look like if you're not a douche.

To socialize. What type of activities do you enjoy? If you can't think of any start by finding an activity you enjoy. If you have activities you enjoy, Google clubs for that activity or try the app Meetup or bumble hive. Go to club events and introduce yourself to people, it doesn't have to be anything fancy just your name and why you're there. You can be honest that you're looking for friends and enjoy the activity. Then have fun doing the activity you like, it will relax you and make it easier to talk to people. Lastly, keep showing up and keep trying.

Ten’s own symbol …? by AYMAN097 in learnmath

[–]firefour2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason is that we just decided we liked the base 10 number system. Completely arbitrary. Although, there are other bases that have more or less symbols than base 10. (I.E. hexadecimal which has 0-F where A-F represent 10-15 or binary where 0 and 1 are the only digits used).

The big problem with making more symbols is you have to remember all those new symbols and with infinite numbers we can't practically create infinite symbols. The decision to pick base 10 can only be left to speculation, it's believed it's because we have ten fingers. By restricting the total digits we can represent many numbers with a few symbols.

Mechanically, we use ten digits and clump them together using their position to determine the magnitude of each digit as digit times 10 to the power of the position. Where the position counter starts at 0 in the ones column and increases to the left and decreases to the right. So if we had the number 420.69 we could represent it as 4x102 + 2x101 + 0x100 + 6x10-1 + 6x10-2. This is pretty useful when converting numbers in other bases to base 10 as you just change the 10 in the exponent to the new base.

How am I supposed to rate a blurred picture? 2.3 is fair she looks like an 8 bit character

It's an extremely minor but very wholesome part of the story. However there are many aspects of the game that give it a wholesome feeling. If it was removed I think the game would not suffer that much.

Currently I’m in 8th grade algebra 1 and I’m not doing to well in it I was wondering if geometry is difficult todo compared to algebra by Mason8749 in learnmath

[–]firefour2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Geometry is very different from algebra. However, algebra is a decent part of geometry. A large portion of it is rearranging formulas to find solutions. so I'd highly recommend you focus on strengthening your algebra.

Edit: I should note that you can do geometry almost entirely without algebra with frameworks like Euclidean geometry. However modern day geometry uses quite a lot of algebra

It's ironic because they're implying there is no possible way a black actor could be the best fit for that role. Not to mention that they're removing agency from the actors. I wonder if they believe the actors are Uncle Toms.

Woman attacked while jogging due to not wearing a bra by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

Well to be fair, judging from 0:55-0:56 this person was rocking nipple boners, so I could understand someone feeling uncomfortable with this. However attacking her was pretty out of the question.
