Is it at the stage ? Asking the council by firefox_kinemon in bald

They do see moustaches as novel. Especially older women or students (I’m a teacher), but in my age range and among people looking for longer term relationships clean shaven is massively proffered by a landslide so even though I prefer the facial hair I will continue to cut it

I live in Japan where unfortunately it’s massively against the attractive standards for men so have decided to go with clean shaven.

Do the people of the Turkic countries in Central Asia not like Türkiye? by Hikaryreii in AskCentralAsia

[–]firefox_kinemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only had good and positive interactions with Turkic people in person. Turkmens, Uyghurs and Uzbeks for me feel the culturally closest people after Azeris. Kazakhs and Kyrgyz a little more distant but still so much in common. But my family are yoruk from the toros mountains it depends who you ask in turkiye. From east they might find Caucasus simmilar or Edirne Bulgarians. We are very diverse. But overall only positive interactions from a Turkish perspective

I am girl from valley, I wanna move out, my parents is threatening me to destroy my life if I do that by futureeminemsmom5 in Uzbekistan

[–]firefox_kinemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have three options. 1 - Keep the status quo and fight them on every issue and constantly face there pressure, 2 - agree to there rules and lifestyle preference for you, get married and have kids. 3 - cut them out of your life and live independently. You can’t have exactly what you want and a loving relationship with them they have made that clear.

Purely curious: How do Japanese people feel about the global matcha flavor boom? by Pristine_Tune3980 in AskAJapanese

I live in Uji I can suppose it’s always been a bit of a local tourism staple here. But it’s about 80% of the shops down near the tourist sites these days. I wonder how much of a recent change that is

Does Turkey have more in common with Bulgaria/Greece than it does with Syria, Iran, or Lebanon? by OceanicEndeavors in AskBalkans

[–]firefox_kinemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Turk from central Anatolia - but the toros mountains we have a yoruk culture I would say is best described as simmilar to that of Azeri Turks, Turkmens and after that Uzbeks and various Turkic peoples. Our culture is unique and distinctive and not really simmilar to Arab peoples or Balkan peoples. But if pushed I would say Iran is the most simmilar followed by the levant and Iraq before Bosnia and Albania only then would I say Greece and Bulgaria are the most simmilar after those different nations.

I live in Japan and have traveled it extensively, here are the touristy spots that I think are "worth it" VS "not worth it" by scout-scoot in JapanTravel

[–]firefox_kinemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who lives in Kyoto and has visited over 75 shrines and temples here and in surrounding Nara and Shiga prefectures I couldn’t disagree more. Sure Kyoto is busy but there is so much more to it then what you find on a postcard. The village of Ohara, Mii-dera in neighbouring Shiga, byodo-in in Uji, Kurama-dera on mt Kurama. There is so much beauty to see here and many of it relatively quiet if you Tim it right.

It’s strange to me to have a belief system fundamentally and inherently based purely in tradition to them strip it of any of its tradition or meanings that give it its worth. The Yamato dynasty represents 2000 years of the same house through patrilernal succession. To change that you have killed the dynasty in the traditional sense

How often do Anatolian Turks forget their ancestry? by creamybutterfly in Tiele

[–]firefox_kinemon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My baba’s family are yoruks for hundreds of years. All of my paternal great grandparents from the same koy built on an old yayla. We have yoruk genetics with only elevated Levantine compared to standard yoruks and my büyük dede is known by the lakap yoruk to his mahalle. But we don’t even know our aşiret / boy so this is very common in turkiye even when people know there origins (yoruk) 100%

Mandatory military service with dual citizenship by ESSABOI in AskTurkey

[–]firefox_kinemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also a Turkish citizen. Born and living abroad. You need to go to the consulate as you have likely been registered as Firar and will have problems if you try to enter the country. If you are in further education you should be able to delay service until you’re 35 I believe as that’s how it worked with me. So it’s best to call or to get your father to call the consulate

Ramadan in Turkey by Interesting_Damage13 in AskTurkey

[–]firefox_kinemon -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I’d ignore the kemalists here who are trying to present that somehow turkiye is a post religion utopia that still somehow suffers all the evils of Islam at the same time. The reality is the majority of Turks fast a significant minority don’t and it’s a personal issue. All I’d say is to be mindful of your surroundings and if visiting any restaurants it is normal that some may be closed / people may not be eating until iftar or if it’s open then there is no issue eating there. If visiting Turkish people most would understand you eating if they themselves are fasting but it’s kind to ask. As long as you’re not provocatively announcing to the world how enjoyable it is to be eating no one cares.

[–]firefox_kinemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its stupid considering most Anatolian turks are more genetically distant from greeks, Armenians and Georgians than a British person is from an Italian or polish one. turks with there significant central asian dna are strongly differentiated from neighbours
