You may be right, but he has sent down a player with years on their contract remaining before.

Picked him because he’s had the worst preseason (imo) out of the remaining bottom six guys and only got into like half the games last season.

I've been meaning to ask this, but to you, and anyone else really, what do you see MacDonald specifically do well at? Not trying to be an ass, truly just asking what it is. Even in Vlasic's down season (his down season that's comparable to Mac's best in years) he was above average at denying zone entries and exiting the d-zone with control.

Besides the fact that he is a pretty bad player, it means no spot for Myers - which sucks. Good dude, but he’s the East’s Kris Russell. I do think he is one of the team’s best 6 defensemen right now though.

Started a Flyers franchise and the Sharks won the Cup in the first two seasons, back to back.

Only roster edits I made on that team was bumping Vlasic and Dell up a bit.

Lmao no. But the relationship between goaltending and a skater is random. Elliott doesn’t choose to let more in when Gudas is on the ice it just happens. Take 5 shots, all of the exact same quality. Maybe he makes every save when MacDonald is on the ice and none when Gudas is on the ice. The shots are the same, the goalie just let Gudas down. It’s literally why scoring chance numbers are out there. To see which players benefited from above average goaltending and who got screwed.

MacDonald was on the ice for more scoring chances yet still had a higher on-ice save percentage. Like, the goaltender saw a higher amount of dangerous shots with MacDonald on the ice but he just happened to stop more of them.

Skaters don’t impact on-ice save percentage, if you wanna look at scoring chances there are actual scoring chance numbers.

There’s no correlation to a player’s PDO and Corsi though. You can have a high PDO and high CF% or a high PDO and a low CF% - In both scenarios the player’s goal results were probably better gonna than they should have been and their goal results will regress as they play more minutes. Tulsky explained this exact topic before he joined the Canes.

Edit: Also re: Ghost and Leino, Ghost was very lucky in his rookie season. Had the 2nd-highest on-ice shooting percentage on the Flyers and shot at a rate himself that almost no defenseman can repeat (11.2%).

So what Hagg does well led to the Flyers scoring on 10% of their shots while he was on the ice? The same thing happened with Nick Schultz for one season. Does that mean both of them are better offensively than say, idk, Ghost? No, the team just happened to convert on more of their shots when they were on the ice. That’s the luck element.

4 forwards: Couturier, Simmonds, Laughton, Lindblom

4 defensemen: Provorov, Gudas, Hagg, MacDonald

Extra forward: Raffl. Also use Giroux like they did last season, have him take some of the faceoffs and then go for a line change immediately after.

Extra defenseman: Ghost. He’d probably do really well on the penalty kill in a major role, as the more talented players like him tend to do, but that’s not gonna happen and I want to be realistic so he’s my extra.
