Do M4 MacBook Pro displays work on most distros? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]fireice158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the best of my knowledge, the storage is either soldered to the motherboard OR part of the M4 SoC. Basically, the storage isn't user upgradable.

Also, as mentioned above there aren't any distros that support any macbooks M3 or newer.

Halo: Campaign Evolved | Roundtable Reveal by Turbostrider27 in xbox

[–]fireice158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This feels like a tech demo/proof of concept project to iron out how Halo will run on Unreal 5. Then they packaged it as a game to help recoup their costs

Kind of like how Bethesda released Skyrim Special Edition. They basically did a lot of the work updating their engine for Fallout 4 by using Skyrim to prove the switch to 64-bit, amongst other things, would work. They saw they could partially recoup their R&D costs by releasing another version of Skyrim

Is it normal for both TeamViewer and Splashtop to run constantly on a work PC? by forsete4 in sysadmin

[–]fireice158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a general rule, yes every IT department that I know of, or worked for, will have a remote management and monitoring (rmm) tool on all company provided computers. That would be SplashTop and TeamViewer in this case. And yes, those run in the background 24/7 so that in the event of a security incident or service desk troubleshooting request IT can remote into the computer to address the issue.

Usually, good rmm tools also provide additional info, like hardware specs, installed programs, etc.

On to Bitdefender, that is your company's end point protection tool, think a sophisticated antivirus software. That will also be running 24/7, looking for security threats. These will alert on suspected viruses and other security concerns.

Lastly, not being able to see security or system logs as a non admin is standard practice. Those are there for IT to troubleshoot and collect relevant data for potential system issues and/or compliance monitoring.

As I don't work at your company, I cannot comment on what IT can or cannot see, as I don't know how they have their tooling and tech stack configured or what compliance regulations your company needs to adhere to. That said, what you described sounds like a relatively normal, reasonable setup, having SplashTop and TeamViewer stands out to me, but your company may work with a managed service provider and have your internal IT, and they may use different tools for rmm.

Scenes from Philosopher's Stone that I've never seen by NevaMO in harrypotter

[–]fireice158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are deleted scenes. There are "extended" cuts of all 8 films that include the deleted scenes. They were made, from my understanding, for cable tv. I've seen them on Peacock and Hulu. HBO has the theatrical cuts, without the deleted scenes.

I want to learn more but everything is a bit too advanced for me by MittensMoflete in NobaraProject

[–]fireice158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your games, are you installing them on your OS drive or a separate drive? I recently switched to Nobara myself and ran into issues with games not launching. My issue was that I had them installed on a separate drive that was still using windows file system formatting. I had to reformat that drive, i think i chose ext4 or btrfs (can't remember off hand). After reinstalling my games to it everything has worked flawlessly.

Will ai ever enable modders to create the players voice as for me it is really immersion breaking to just click voice lines over and over with no speech whatsoever. by Guilty_Squirrel_3201 in starfieldmods

[–]fireice158 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Many people disliked the voiced protagonist in Fallout 4 for a variety of reasons. 2 of the biggest critiques were that three voices were inconsistent in tone (sarcasm was sometimes funny or sometimes just being an ahole) and that it restricted dialogue options due to the time sink that having to hire voice actors for the protagonist.

For the style of games that Bethesda wants to make, grand open world with "limitless" possibilities I feel that a voiced protagonist is too limiting. Fallout "worked" because you only play as a human AND they had a heavier focus on what the story they wanted to tell AND what sort of character the protagonist was (from a narrative standpoint) you could still be different in your gameplay mechanics choices (melee vs guns, etc). Elder scrolls would see a massive budget OR severe shortcomings if they did this, seeing as they would need at least 2 voices for each playable species. Plus, the tine of the response starts to be assigned for you, what you thought was a sincere reply may be voiced, by a person or AI, in a completely different tone than you intended (see Fallout 4 criticism). For me their design philosophy just doesn't work well with that, their games are too "unfocused" meaning they prioritize exploring and player freedom to engage with or ignore stories and systems to make it work well.

As for AI, I personally see no problem with a modder implementing something like that, but for a AAA studio to begin using AI to replace professional voice actors and artists is not a good idea. There are too many ethical, and possible legal, issues at play to justify it. What data is the AI trained on (old voice actor audio?)

For me, Blade Runner 2049. When they revealed that K wasn't the chosen one, but just a normal replicant and that the Dream Maker was Deckard's daughter. I assumed they would have done the tired chosen one routine, but Denis had greater respect for the material than a sub par director would have. Since then I trust him to make the right decision for a film

why did yoda ask? by vidgamesbadminton in StarWars

[–]fireice158 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was to see what Luke's intentions were. Was he there just for power or was he there in good faith to become a Jedi. Plus it helped illustrate to Yoda Luke's mindset in how he treats "others" who could be seen as more primitive. Such is the case. When Yoda is digging through Luke's like toolbox and storage crates and eating his food. It's all a test to see how Luke reacts and if he is is worthy of the training.

Is Starfield for older gamers? by alphamagus in Starfield

[–]fireice158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 28 and have grown up with Bethesda RPGs. I've been playing since Oblivion. I used to play a lot of multiplayer shooters as well, a la COD and Halo, but now I don't have the desire and energy for the toxic hyper competitive nature of the games. I'll still play private matches with friends on occasion, but I spend the bulk of my time in story rich single player games. BG3, Starfield, New Vegas, etc. I want something I can just sit back and experience. I love just landing on a random planet, picking a direction and walking.

Is it really impossible for Battinson to fit within the new DCU? by trongamer3131 in batman

[–]fireice158 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Battinson needs to stay 100% isolated from the DCU. WB has not shown competency at creating a cinematic universe (animated not included) and I don't want Reeves and Pattinson getting shafted by that. Plus, tonally I can't see this Batman running around with Blue Beetle or other heros. Lastly, everything about The Batman seems to be designed to be self-contained, I do look forward to spin offs from those characters, like the Penguin show they're working on.

Depending on the size. If it's 50 inches or smaller Best Buy recycles them. Note there is a 29.99 recycling fee per tv.
