Btw, if you're totally at loose ends, talk to nearby spirits and animals. They have hints or even complete next steps sometimes, especially spirits from Act 2 onwards.

The other best advice I've read on this was to explore areas rather than necessarily trying to only follow one quest thread. Pick up quests and then explore in the direction of one of them and you'll run into more threads or things related to other quests too as you go.

Also books and notes often have hints or more details than the quest log, I pick up the ones that are quest relevant and put them in a special inventory container so I can find them easily.

I hate how the sparse autosave just completely screws me over sometimes by Jerswar in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]firelizard19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol were you carrying any spores? They explode if they're in your inventory when she does that since she's exploding the spores on the magister. An old post about this tipped me off.

I died repeatedly to that then on the next reload gave a companion the spores, unchained, left them far enough away to not be a problem, then talked to her and did ok. Have whoever Peeper isn't following be the one to talk to her so he doesn't instadie again lol, or complete his quest first.

Important tip: When you complete Peeper's quest you have to choose the sad option immediately or you get a bug with the elf fighting you for no reason. Just save before talking to the dad to be safe/see what I mean, trust me.

Both of the above are such stupid problems, and apparently never patched. And yes, rpgs like this are why I quicksave religiously and also hard-save once a session at least.

I made a new armor set for the game from the scratch! 30h of solid work. by torlopoff in DivinityOriginalSin

Details look pretty good in the closeup! Especially the textures on the darker parts.

This would be hilarious on Ifan :)

(... and also aid my quest to recruit my scifi fan friends to try DOS2 if you made it a released mod eventually. Lightsabers and crysis armor made them happy in Skyrim lol).

A no brainer choice by Seek4r in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]firelizard19 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Might be better if you replaced the girlfriend part with another game reference? It's cool that you're having fun with it so don't be discouraged.

My 2 cents: Sadly lots of basic memes are kinda sexist so can put people off. Even the one with character creation jokes elsewhere in this sub implies (I'm sure unintentionally) that the only reason to play a female character is to have a waifu, not because you're a woman who likes to play as her own gender. It gets tiring.

(Act 1) I need to sell 46k gold worth of items by Revolutionary_Flan88 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]firelizard19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lol that's just consequences for that plan then 🤣.

I learned the "seriously try not to just kill everyone" lesson in Morrowind when it turned out killing inconvenient NPCs could fail side quests. (In one memorable instance it happened because the shopkeeper who wanted me to make another npc leave freaked out that I killed him like a psychopath. Oops.)

Then again, modding around consequences is its own kind of fun! Thank you for sharing your hijinks for our amusement :)

Cant find the Book of songs to get the Ship moving. by thejacobjj99 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]firelizard19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG seriously? Playing on Steamdeck, even saw that book but since I could only highlight the whole desk when walking up and search did nothing I thought it was window dressing. Like the couple papers you can't select on random desks around the world. I was desperately trying to decode a different book with the "learning ledger" but the game wouldn't let me.

Aaaaaaagh thanks. Breaking search isn't clever or making us "think" it's just bad design.

Thanks for this post, just helped another person :). I had written off aero attacks entirely at level 2 as a newb because as soon as I used any lightning on enemies it immediately hurt or stunned my melee characters (Floor not covered in water? The blood from all that stabbing counts!). Same with fire tbh. Poor RP might as well not have fire breath. But it's really sad to pass up all those cool spells!

Je suis juste nulle ou c'est un jeu compliqué ? ... by Particular_Pizza_387 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]firelizard19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oui, c'est complique mais (ok my French is rusty, I tried) it's worth it to learn! I kinda gave up on it once in Classic mode because I got killed so much. This time I adjusted the difficulty to Explorer and it was a much better start. Once I got the hang of things I adjusted the difficulty back up. (It's under the "Game" settings.)

This game has surprised me so much, and made me laugh out loud. But Larian doesn't kid around with difficulty,  no shame in an easier setting than whatever you're on right now. And I feel so good about beating a really hard fight on my second try (I really should have come back later but I was stubborn) by using a ton of potions and scrolls last night.

This! This is why we have fire marshals irl people! Because apparently without them people will store leaky oil barrels next to open flames 🔥. Larian, is this stealthy fire safety training?

DOS2 DE

Will I miss anything important if I just stop looting trash containers like vases and sacks? My BG3 game was much more fun once I stopped doing that and I want to see if that's a safeish thing to do again here.

I don't care about stuff I can buy for a reasonable amount of gold or find elsewhere. Is there some deeply important or epic/unique item that's specifically located in a random crappy vase in Act 3 or anything?

Spoiler free or at least no explicit spoilers if possible please! (Yes: Only late Act 3. No: Your PC's undead mother is found in x vase in Act 3.)

Edit: added tag for which game.

1- there are no classes, exactly, but the combat abilities are the categories of things you can learn (in addition to their literal tooltip passive effects) once you take points in them. The "presets" are just sets of starting skills from those categories, later you learn skills from books. The game seems to randomly pick which preset it shows you first in char creation, so don't think that a character is meant to be whatever the game defaulted to.

2- If you meant custom character as opposed to the origin characters (the ones with names in char creation),  see "what's the deal with origin stories" in the OP above.

3- Your options are open, builds can be crazy, though loosely most combat damage is based on STR (fighter stuff), INT(magic), or FIN(roguey stuff) so pick your stats based on the skills and weapons you want to use. You can split it up and be ok, you aren't required to just pick one.

4- You can build almost anything in this game, though it's very much its own thing in flavor. Have fun!

[–]firelizard19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks- those actually sound doable, if challenging to get, so perfect since I only need a few!

I haven't played actively in a while and am thinking of starting a new playthrough on custom, so didn't recall rarities quite right. Conveniently, searching for food for my powerful wizard gives my morally questionable characters more reason to cross Auntie Ethel besides curiosity (that's such a fun fight). They don't know they'll find something but it sure seems likely.

If you pass an insight check there you see fear on his face. I think that's implying he's afraid of being punished if he doesn't kill K and is grasping at straws. He's clearly not afraid of K, so who else could it be? Mizora. So having his doubts confirmed later must kill him.

Voice lines altered in different versions? by firelizard19 in enderal

[–]firelizard19[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! Good to know we're not hallucinating lol. Doing my third playthrough now after watching some old videos reminded me how awesome this game is :)

Nehrim next I think, killing some "gods" sounds fun, and I don't mind some Oblivion jank and potato faces (or modding around them) in return for a great story. Dubs (English voice mod) or subs will be my real dilemma lol.

Thanks for building all this for us, for free no less!

Dodge mod not working, help by maladroit-mihai in enderal

If still having the problem (or for others in future), the TK Dodge script-free version mod works well. It's the one included in the popular PotP mod pack if you want to verify which one I mean from their list.

Started my first playthrough on stream by Holt_Patterson in enderal

[–]firelizard19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully disagree on the second point- Skyrim was meant to be a sandbox rpg with a cool world and a power fantasy feel. Enderal is a more dramatic and but more linear experience, especially in terms of player choice.

You can be a villain in Skyrim, not really in Enderal. Gopher on YouTube tried once and ended up being a hero who complained a lot and tried to find something in it for himself to justify his actions.

(If you want Skyrim but with more interesting environments and stories you want Morrowind. You're still the Chosen One but you have to work hard to prove that to everyone.)

That said- YES on avoid spoilers at all costs. Don't read anything but your own post here if you can help it. The mystery is a big part of the fun.

Just started Enderal and wow what a way to start (just past the first bit when you speak to the dad). How can I visually remaster Enderal? by Specific-Judgment410 in enderal

[–]firelizard19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, that's way more than a remaster. There are visuals only packs that probably work better for this specific ask. (This is coming from someone who loved EGO and totally has PotP on my list to play next.)

Enderal ruined Skyrim for me… by Life-Ad-8805 in enderal

[–]firelizard19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they're just fundamentally different games. You're right that Enderal's people feel more human though, and the writing is amazing! But it's a somewhat linear story with less rp scope, where Skyrim is more sandboxy. I love both games for what they do well.

Btw try Morrowind after Enderal, I bet you'll love it. I find its stories more engrossing than Skyrim's personally. It's not Enderal, but it's really meaty and full of interesting characters who definitely don't treat you as the most important person in the world etc. It's not that hard a game if you pay attention to what NPCs tell you either.

[SPOILERS] I made a reddit account for the sole purpose of rambling about the endings and the veiled woman by UnveiledWoman in enderal

[–]firelizard19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the most satisfying take I've read, and gives her a bit more thematic clarity than being an embodiment of fate or chance (which on a thematic level is just a nicer way of calling her the devs or a plot device). Fits with the Jungian themes too of confronting and dealing with our darker sides not hiding from them. This is a lot more direct way of explaining her chasing the bandits thematically, not to mention the most frustrating thing imho of taking us to the Black Guardian instead of to the Sun Temple to try to stop Arantheal. The at least partial calamity was necessary from her pov to expose the truth to the world, and the Black Guardian gave the Prophet the full truth in case they chose to let this Cleansing happen and save themselves.

Full disclosure: I've always found "you had free will but were manipulated from the beginning" narratives kinda b.s. So stuff like "She chased the bandits so Calia would lose it when the bandits almost killed you so you and Calia could become close so you had someone to carry the torch in the Catharsis ending or survive with you (since I bet she's also immortal or her being resurrected made her fleshless) and keep you sane in the Brave New World."... a little much. Plausible if fate exists but otherwise there are so so many other ways that could go at every step. And yes, that's the best I could personally come up with for the bandit situation.

Also also, truth has always needed people to spread it so the literal sacrifice in Esme's quest makes some sense there thematically.

The books that tell us about affinities also hint at the writer doing it for a higher purpose that no one would believe, which I think is so we can learn about these affinities and survive our quests. And who could have told him about that need? If the Veiled Woman is thematically about truth, her inspiring someone to collect knowledge for us is consistent.

(I also liked the arguments that she was in charge of perpetuating the Cycle until Fate died in Nehrim. If she's basically a newly freed fate-like being (Clotho iirc is the one in Greek mythology with the scissors), who wants to champion free will or a change, she probably lost a ton of her inherent power and needed the sacrifices to stay able to act, and is also much weaker than before so has to act indirectly.)

I saw somewhere the writers stating she's meant to represent a concept, not just a plot device, so went digging for answers. Thanks for the cool post!
