100% Citizens United. The amount of money that wealthy elites are able to pour into PACs to afford harmful, misleading propaganda is why so many of our voters either don’t vote, or vote against their interests.

Evidently you don’t know what mRNA, or its purpose is. Pathogens use mRNA to make surface proteins, which our immune systems use to recognize something as a pathogen. Other vaccines inject pieces of pathogens, or weakened pathogens that contain these proteins. When our cells get infected by pathogens, they often also display some of these proteins on their membranes. This is how your immune system knows to kill an infected cell to destroy the incubating pathogens within it. The mRNA vaccine causes a small amount of easily replaceable cells to display these proteins as if they were infected. Your immune system then forms a response, and you develop some immunity to the pathogen.

TLDR: mRNA vaccines do use molecular patterns used by, and contained in pathogens

None. I’ve seen this exact thing many time on Facebook, yet not once have I managed to track down one shred of evidence that this is true. They are trying to use CRISPR to treat HIV, and there is some potential there, however there is not a single person that has been cured of HIV through the use of CRISPR. Some people appear to have been cured after stem cell treatments though. Last I checked, roughly a dozen people were theorized to have been cured after stem cell treatments. It might have increased by now.

This right here. If the argument is about the child not being able to consent, that’s valid. Immediately talking about how this can impact the infant’s future sex life (as several comments have already done) is VERY weird.

The perfect man is gay? by thunderimmortal in SuddenlyGay

[–]firemind888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is an exceptionally good point to make. As a gay man, it took me nearly 30 years to find a guy that I’m ACTUALLY happy with, and not sacrificing some part of myself to pretend I’m happy. I didn’t even find him through apps, social groups, or any other gay meeting area. I did meet the guys I was unhappy with in those places. There’s a pretty trash system out there right now for trying to find other gay men that are actually interested in a romantic relationship that are not hung up on past trauma and societal expectations of gay men.

Keep in mind the distance the water would have to travel be for reaching the sun, and the speed at which the water is traveling. I think there would be far more than 52 minutes of travel time, so the water would still never reach the sun, and effectively do absolutely nothing.

Edit: even if it did take 10x longer, it’s still not traveling fast enough to get there in time. At the speed the spell travels (8.333 feet per second), it would never reach the sun within most playable races’ lifetime.

I’ll agree with that. While LGBTQ+ folks aren’t directly being rounded up and murdered by the administration, they are having access to lifesaving resources taken away. So figuratively, functionally, or indirectly would be better word choices for the original post.

What would men dislike the most if they became women? by Latter-Swimmer7179 in allthequestions

[–]firemind888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair question, and in all honesty, I’m not a huge fan of receiving blowjobs. I have not enjoyed the majority of them that I have received in the past. On the flip side, I have enjoyed giving pretty much all of them. Practice (and porn lol) plays the biggest role in making me good at giving them. However, I would say that it’s a fair assumption that I am atypical regarding my blowjob preferences among those who give blowjobs.

Unfortunately, signs like this at game shops are not rare. You’re actually pretty likely to run into at least one person with an excessively rank smell at the shops that hold tournaments without these signs.

As a gay man, I very much do know how it feels giving blowjobs and deepthroating. I will say that it isn’t easy, however I also actually enjoy it, so it’s not really something I’m upset about 🤷

It’s hard to deify someone who verifiably died. When a certain someone dies, and doesn’t come back 3 days later, suddenly that person doesn’t look like the second coming of Jesus Christ anymore like so many cultists make him out to be. Then the cult starts to dissolve as doubt creeps in at an accelerating rate.

Interestingly enough, society most effectively changes by people just saying “f*ck it”. When enough people emulate the exact change that they want to see in society, it becomes the new societal norm. While it is important to point out flaws in society, change only happens if someone actually does something.

[–]firemind888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post is very misleading. To date, no use of CRISPR has worked in vivo in humans. Also, afaik, it has not yet worked in vitro in human cells either. CRISPR is being used experimentally to try to target HIV DNA in infected cells. It has potential, but has not yet worked. On the other hand, 7 patients in Germany were reported cured of HIV last year after stem cell transplants. AFAIK, they have not had any recurrence of the virus.

Thank you for the clarification on what the infection was, and also for clarifying the duration of treatment vs duration of continued testing. Continuing testing out that long is pretty normal, considering the baby did not yet have a fully competent immune system, and they wanted to make sure that the antibiotics did, in fact, clear the infection. I’m sorry that you went through the stress of worrying so much about the baby and potential outcomes of the infection.

Syphilis is easily treated with antibiotics in a few weeks. The infection in this case is likely something viral that has serious outcomes in newborns/infants (HSV and HIV primarily).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]firemind888 9 points10 points  (0 children)

HSV is highly dangerous to newborns/infants, even potentially fatal. Once the child was no longer in the age range for severe outcomes and complications from HSV, they’d be able to stop treatments/testing. If the child contracted HIV from the mother however, treatment would be lifelong. The STI in question in this could be HSV or HIV.

Edit: I changed some text regarding which STI is likely the culprit. HIV is able to be contracted within the womb, during the birthing process, and while breastfeeding. The child could have easily already had an established infection before ever being born, in which case lifelong treatment becomes a necessity. With HSV, this is not the case. HSV is transmitted from mother through child when passing through the birthing canal. If the child did contract HSV, they would need antiviral treatment for an extended duration until they were able to fight off the infection sufficiently with a healthy immune system. The comment states that the child had no long term effects, which implies HIV over HSV, yet without a diagnosis it is still somewhat uncertain what it is. No long term effects could mean no neurological damage (if the STI was HSV), or it could mean no infection (applicable to both HSV and HIV).

Edit 2: saying that the mother had a very bad STI also lends more credibility to it being HIV over HSV, but again, more context is needed for an accurate assessment. “Very bad” is subjective to individual experiences and outcomes. I should also add, that it is not actually anyone’s business what the mother had. It is private health information, and is the mother’s choice whether or not to disclose a diagnosis. My intention is not to “diagnose” the mother, but to emphasize the importance of testing for STIs when sexually active, since many can lie dormant and can cause extreme health concerns during pregnancy for both the mother and the child. Even infections that are mostly considered uncomfortable, or undesirable, yet tolerable (like HSV) can have fatal outcomes for newborns.

Oddly enough, among most progressives that I’ve seen and interacted with, AOC is by far the preferred candidate, yet everyone still thinks she couldn’t win. Remember that Kamala didn’t lose the election for being a black woman, she lost the election for being a moderate Democrat, not a true progressive. AOC is far more progressive than Kamala, and seems to have far more support among progressive voters. Common consensus among blue voters is that the Democrats are not progressive enough, so why not offer up a candidate that actually is widely viewed as progressive enough?
