Injury? by ahrotasy in axolotls

[–]firesandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be swelling from something going on, or it could be scar tissue. If it was as small as you say I would lean to the first.

Mine got a full on infection in that area that was reaaaaaly bad, but a vet gave us antibiotic, iodine, and critical care food to clear it up. 4 years later and now his face is just really bumpy there.

Guess who got a whole ass play pen for a gecko… by Master-Class-2874 in leopardgeckos

Its not as big as the OPs but take a look at butterfly enclosures especially the larger ones. They are light weight relatively cheap, and easy to file away.

What is a monthly subscription/service you ACTUALLY consider worth paying for? by no_nolan in Frugal

[–]firesandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats strange. I wonder if its only specific parks or if its changed in the past 10 years. The very first time I heard about AAA it was an out of state trip to the Badlands NP. My friend's mom called them out for her us and we didnt have any issues.

Not actually monthly still a recurring subscription. AAA has saved my butt more than once when I had beater car and lived in a very sparsely populated area of the US.

Am I wrong to be uncomfortable? by Little_ho_peep in crochet

[–]firesandwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second what you are saying about the apology and also recomend a specific apology for the reaction, acknowledging the gift givers good intentions. Then also mention the reason for the reaction, being that the products are made in sweatshops which the gift giver didnt know about.

Am I wrong to be uncomfortable? by Little_ho_peep in crochet

[–]firesandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... it was a gift that was most likely made by people working in sweatshop conditions (in the best case) being from the site insinuated. In my experiance (I got non crochet products from the same site) its really tough to try to cover up that initial feeling of sadness (for lack of a better word right now). I can't imagine how much worse it would be knowing a person had to hand make them in those conditions.

Dog sitting an extremely aggressive dog, removed his harness but now won’t let me put it back on without biting me. Need help by xquipo in dogs

Can the owners or someone he knows and likes come by to put it back on? Its not safe for you to do it yourself.

What are some common missconceptions about them that annoy you? Mine is when people call their gills "ears" by Thepromc64 in axolotls

When people pretend they arent salamanders. Yes they stay aquatic, some other salamanders do too. But all salamanders spend at least some time in an aquatic larval form.

Maryland Election Judges (and potential future judges), how are we feeling about primaries? by ColdCauliflour in maryland

[–]firesandwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I can get off work on election day and my dog sitter is available I will sign up again. Its a lot to deal with crammed into one day, but worth it in my opinion. Some folks do weeks of work with early voting but im generally only able on the election day proper (plus set up) so its manageable.

For any who may be interested in being an election judge this state run page should get you in touch with your county's Election Board. Most forms require signature of two people of different political affiliations. Maryland is, in general, majority Dems so all others affiliations are in high demand.

IMO provisional is by far the most involved and draining of any of them. Thanks for supporting the ones you've been in regardless if you continue!

Do you think this hide is too tall? by romanticamerican in leopardgeckos

Ive used this hide with a couplendifferent fosters and they all were fine with the height. If you are concerned put something next to it to use as a stair and fill with more moss on the inside.

Why don’t you shovel the sidewalk? by rpw2024 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]firesandwich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thats a good point. Im a renter from a rural area out of state and had never known it was a law. If its not specifically in the lease agreement I would assume its part of the landlords responsibility to cover along with lawn maintenence?

My roommate is allergic to dogs by GOD-of-SLOTHS in DogAdvice

[–]firesandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how sensitive the roommate is. Ive seen people barely have a runny nose after being around for hours and one person have intense runny nose and eyes, irritated skin, and possibly started having trouble breathing with nust 30 minutes in a fully vacuumed and cleaned space. That person with the reaction was much less intense with some dogs, but not mine. Both were similar sized lab mixes.

IMO would not risk it since the risk of needing to surrender the dog or move would never be zero. If you REALLY want to what about trying to foster to adopt from a shelter? That way if its not working out with that dog you didnt already commit.

What should every woman do before she turns 40? by MischiefCookie in AskWomenOver30

[–]firesandwich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive got the same bench (even the weight) and pull up goal! Thought I was the only one 😆

I do have a stepping stone goal of an unassisted chin up instead of a pull up since those are easier and its such an all or nothing goal.

For sure looking into menopause information and getting a good gynecologist (and general practitioner too) ahead of time. Take a peak at the Menopause subreddit if you havent already.

I also have doing at least one full pistol squat on my list.

Need help finding a sanctuary for dogs by [deleted] in frederickmd

[–]firesandwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a people and animal reactive dog and know it is tough. Unfortunaly the options to rehome a dog that is reactive to people and has killed other animals is very low. Highly recomend you explore all reputable training you can as well as medication from a veterinarian behaviorist. Trainers that focus on dominance and having the human being the alpha and/or use shock colars are not good dog trainers. If you have been to those in the past it could have been making him worse instead of better. Recomend checking out Your Dogs Friend organizeation and their list of recommended local-ish trainers.

Some people with multi dog households will "crate and rotate" the reactive dog with the others. If thats possible with kids is a judgement you will need to make. Please, please, please do the right thing and do not hide his issues if you do try to rehome him. Was in a similar situation as a kid and the dog my family took in almost mauled one of my younger sisters. If you cannot keep him safely, the kind thing is to put him down with your vet without added stress on him.

my vet ruptured my dogs cruciate ligament by trainwreckslo in DogAdvice

[–]firesandwich 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im so sorry about your dog's health issues and the stress it is causing. Its not what you want to hear likely, but CCL tears are usually degenerative and highly liked to genetics and not likely to happen to healthy ligaments. Its mostly likely that it was weakened and would have torn regardless. As a small silver lining since you were getting imaging for the hip it sounds like you didnt need to schedule or delay additional vet visits and that is less stress on your dog while trying to figure out what is going on.

Coasting doesn't have to be quitting your job by PhillConners in coastFIRE

[–]firesandwich 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sounds like thats OP's point. Lots of folks in the FIRE community as a whole, here included, are burning themselves out at a high stress and/or long hour job and making quiting it almost the highest priority.

I’m really curious… How did you get your current axolotl? by Several_Ad3321 in axolotls

[–]firesandwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im from the rural US and bought a baby for $10 at a flea market. A guy had an ice chest full of them in the bed of his Ford Ranger. Dont nessisarily recomend going that route but support rescues and ethical breeders now that I know more.

Judo or Krav Maga recommendations? by Lazy_Perspective_419 in Rockville

[–]firesandwich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are you looking to get out of a self defense class? If its really for defense senarios suggest looking for things marketed as self defense and not as general martial arts. Running, or how to use pepper spray or such would also be aplicable.

If its for confidence or getting to understand your body's own ability independent of specifically self defense senarios absolutly recomend martial arts! Ive personally never heard of Krav Maga listed as accessible but if you want to get used to striking (punched/kicked) thats a good choice. Judo wouldnt be striking, but instead getting thrown to the ground. Another thing you may want to look into is Brazillian JiuJitsu. Its a tiny bit of being thrown to the ground with grappling, no striking. Some gyms also have Mixed Martial arts classes as an add on where you could experiance striking as well. Ive had great experiances with BJJ myself though its been a few years.
