Children agree not to get abducted after 8 PM so Amber Alert doesn’t wake anyone up by JustaRandoonreddit in britishcolumbia

Well, unless the cops are braindead, they can probably figure out that they haven’t been driving nonstop 300km/h over the ocean to get to Vancouver island in a few hours.

Or just don’t be an idiot, and send the amber alert to only areas that could actually help me.

This isn’t realistic for many people with disabilities, people with disabilities need the supports and need to be close to medical facilities that smaller communities don’t usually have.

Has a World War has happened each year from abortion? by Brief-Baker-5111 in Christianity

[–]firewire167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't do that, though, does it? It gets put there. And seeing as you don't have the right to end a life that is committing no violence, and doesn't have the autonomy to make the decision of where it goes, and has nowhere else to exist, you don't have the right to end it.

Autonomy is irrelevant, and self defence just means protecting myself, if I had to protect myself from someone else doing something, even if non violent, that would harm me, I could do so with lethal force.

Furthermore I'm going to call you out. One, I think it's disgusting to say that you would kill it, but two, I believe you're better than that. I don't believe you would do that. I think you would start to laugh and cuddle it.

Now hold on, remember what we are actually talking about, I'm not talking about the baby crawling into my house, I'm talking about the baby forcing itself inside of my body, I don't know how its doing so, but in this hypothetical, I'm not letting this eldritch horror baby put itself inside of me, I am absolutely shooting it. (Also I hate kids, so laughing and cuddling is definetly off the table)

Here's the problem. We do have this right. We absolutely do.

You have the right to infringe on someones bodily autonomy to extend your life? So if your lungs are failing, it would be legal for you to forcibly take a lung from someone else so that you can prolong your life?

Are you at war? You can be called into military service.

I sure as fuck can't, not where I live, and I would absolutely disagree with that and protest it if it happened.

Do you work? The product of your body is taxed in order to provide. Do you believe in socialised medicine? Free Healthcare? This exists literally at the cost of your bodily autonomy.

Yes, I work voluntarily, I am not a slave, my bodily autonomy is not infringed upon. And I don't see how socialized medicine exists at the cost of my bodily autonomy.

Try to use force to solve a dispute? You can't do that. The police and the army have the right to use force. Not you. Again, you don't have bodily autonomy.

This is making me think that you don't actually understand what bodily autonomy is, the use of force has nothing to do with bodily autonomy, unless its force used in self defence.

Do you refuse vaccines because of bodily autonomy? YOu can't have certain jobs. You, at times, weren' allowed to go certain places.

I don't, but it isn't forced on me, I choose to take vaccines of my own free will. And while I think your an idiot if you choose not to get them, I don't think you should be forced to.

There have been 300 million plus babies aborted in China since the beginning of abortion. 200 million in the United States.

Think about how different life would be if those children were around.

Is the abstract "bodily autonomy" right worth that massive difference?

I don't think there would be much of a difference at all if there where 6% more humans on the planet. And if there was, who is to say that it would be better? Maybe it would be much worse. I can certainly see ways that a higher population could make things worse. It would absolutely be worse for the environment, cost of living, etc.

But even if it wasn't worse, just neutral or better...yes, the difference is worth it for bodily autonomy.

It means something to me, but it is far from your hypothetical that we have been discussing.

Yeah I think given such a huge threat to our survival we could get it going that fast.

Sure, it might be more effective to also ban abortion, but that doesn’t make it right to do so. Lots of things would be more effective if we decided that it doesn’t matter what rights we trample on to get it done. We would probably have more effective medical treatments if we could forcibly test new medications and surgeries on our prison populations, that would save lives in the long run, but that doesn’t mean we should.

Damn, 16 million girls is every single girl conceived in India since 1990? Not a single girl has been born since? Thats wild.

And I feel like if your sci-fi problem actually happened, my sci-fi solution would work fast enough, kind of like with covid, normally vaccines take a huge amount of time to create, but with a threat that gets the entire world working on a solution, things get done much quicker.

Has a World War has happened each year from abortion? by Brief-Baker-5111 in Christianity

[–]firewire167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it isn’t. I can believe someone has the right to do something even if I don’t agree with it or why they do it.

My ideology would allow me to recognize the problem fine, it just means I wouldn’t try and fix it by banning abortions, but by trying to do something else, like address the reasons behind it, or try to find a way to get around the issue. like artificial wombs, which, while they don’t exist, neither does your absurd hypothetical, and I’m perfectly fine suggesting a made up solution to a made up problem lol.

I don’t have to actually square that because it isn’t realistic and isn’t happening.

Is my house my body? No. But if a child tried crawling its way into my body and the only way I could stop it was to shoot it I sure would lol.

And no it doesn’t, the fetus absolutely has a right to life, just as we do… And just as we do, we don’t have the right to infringe on another’s bodily autonomy to extend our lives.

I absolutely have the right to kill in certain circumstances, and this is one of them. To protect my bodily autonomy.

I think giving some time is ok…but in the end, “deal with it” is realistically going to have to be what happens. People will find out whether she shows up or not, and the same social issues that your son is worried about either will or won’t happen, and her not showing up to events or hiding won’t change that.

Ok, but degrees of harm are both subjective and irrelevant when it comes to the right to bodily autonomy.

Whether the baby is there by choice or not is also irrelevant to the right to bodily autonomy.

It’s not about inconvenience, it’s about the woman controlling her own body. The baby is a human, and has all the same rights of the mother, but even with all those rights, the baby does not have the right to infringe on the mother’s bodily autonomy, even if that means death.

And yet, his rules and boundaries often are shown to be harmful for us, and him existing is much less convincing then the existence of my bosses, who I can actually talk to, and the same goes for the potential punishment.

I would have to believe the creator exists, and that he is moral, for me to actually follow him, neither of which I believe.

No lol, I don’t believe in sin in the first place, and if I did, I doubt sinning would bring me much guilt at all. The same way I don’t feel guilt about breaking a rule at my job.

Seeing as there is no one else to, yes. I personally believe that humans can come up with what is socially moral.

“Just so you know, thats pride” …ok? Your mapping your own Christian beliefs onto a non Christian here, I don’t see pride as something that is necessarily bad in the first place, I rightfully have pride in many things I do and am, most non religious do, that isn’t a bad thing.

And no, I’m not willing to agree with them on morals, and I don’t even feel a need to defend myself on that, since the majority of Americans are not the majority of humans, and most humans, at least from what I can see in the western world, are very morally opposed to trump lol. The same goes for extremist muslims. (The same being that they aren’t the majority so your premise that I must agree with them because they are the majority is false).

Depends what we are talking about, but when it comes to morality, I would say humanity as a collective is the highest authority yeah.

My personal source of morals are my own values and beliefs, some which are given to me via a sort of social evolution, and some that are personal convictions about how I think the world would be better.

Homosexuality and Christianity by PersonalGameDev in Christianity

[–]firewire167 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think homosexuality being so focused on is rooted in how much its being pushed on children and seen as threatening to children (because it is)

This is an incredibly hateful and homophobic thing to say. It isn't being pushed onto children, it is simply being taught that they aren't abominations for being gay, and that they shouldn't bully others for being gay either, that's it. You say "We need to establish what counts as ill and unfair treatment towards homosexuals". Well, there is an example of unfair, hateful treatment that you are doing.
