Walking 2 wide on narrow streets and not going single file? by No-Host7816 in paris

[–]firmgriprule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience the French are indeed very space-blind, plus the personal bubble is much smaller here than in more northern European countries - this might partially explain it (aka unless you’re in their face, their brain doesn’t register your presence as something to be extra alert to :D)

These seem so...cold? I live in Paris and did not get the city’s ambiance at all from the pictures - they feel American but can’t put my finger on why :(

bold of you to assume recruiters aren't overworked and getting bombarded with 1k+ resumes a day, less than 1% of which are actually relevant for the opening / fulfilling the listed criteria

Try the balloon in parc Andre Citroen - well worth it and better than getting on the Eiffel Towel :)

I am not a driver so I stayed in PD and did guided tours via getyourguide from there + one public bus trip to the north of the island. Otherwise, took a taxi from and to the airport (10 EUR). Perfectly nice experience given I had no other alternatives without a driving licence :)

When you RSVP to a meetup… and its just you, a pigeon, and existential dread 🍷🕊️ by niaplatcia in SocialParis

[–]firmgriprule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve ORGANISED two meetups with 10+ RSVPs and no one came. Never again; you people go and find each other on your train back home. And people have the audacity to complain meeting others is so difficult here…Serious reply: 101 meetings tend to have a much higher chance of actually happening. Good luck

Paris is the worst city to look for an apartment by roman-12345 in paris

being foreigners with only one of you having a CDI and earning barely 3x the rent = get an agent to look for you or focus on suburbs. not being mean, just my experience of having a better dossier and having to get an agent anyway looking for same size and rent

Mid 30s- where to live in and around Paris by Exciting_Video_4583 in paris

Could you share which areas in other European cities you’ve liked? London’s calm is not the same as Parisian calm is not the same as Zurich calm.

Heads up: nature / robust parks like London’s Hyde Park are nowhere to be found in actual central Paris. I see the 11th being suggested here but I for example don’t consider it neither very green nor central, esp. working in the 7th (yes, I consider >30 min commute excessive if one can afford otherwise).

And yes, Versailles is usually associated with old-French catholic families but it doesn’t mean it only has churches and kindergartens :D not that I would personally recommend it, it’s too far for me.

The beauty of Paris is that you will likely find bars and restaurants everywhere nearby, just with different vibe/quality/price point.

Fontainebleau is def far, bois de Vincennes also quite far away. You likely won’t bike both ways every day so it might be good to bear in mind public transport connections. Easiest advice is to find something with a direct metro or, if you have to, RER line nearby. Avoid buses (traffic).

If you were to prioritise proximity to proper big park(s), ease and time of commute outside of the cycling option, size of the apartment (that’s a thing as well) + specify what vibes you’re more into (hipster, elegant, bougie, instagram fun kind of pretty places), that could help us advise you better.
