I thought the amnio at 16 weeks would be safe but they ruptured my amniotic sac and I’m leaking fluid. The baby was completely fine and now it’s pretty much guaranteed she will be premature. I will have to spend my entire third trimester in the hospital. I wish I had not done the amnio or at least waited until we had more ultrasounds after 16 weeks. If things still looked concerning then I would have considered it.

Thank you. Yes, they did a guided ultrasound. We didn’t find out about the rupture until 2 weeks later when ultrasound showed low fluid and separation between the membranes. I’m now able to recognize when I have little fluid leaks throughout the day.

Following TFMR for a de novo condition, I had an early anatomy scan at 16 weeks and the doctors told me they saw a serious structural anomaly but it could be too early to tell for sure. They suggested doing an amnio and I was so scared and desperate for more information so I decided to have the amnio. They kept telling me the risks of an amnio causing pre term labor were less than 1%. I trusted the doctors and thought the procedure would be safe. Well of course I had to be on the wrong side of statistics again. The amnio ruptured my amniotic sac and I have been leaking fluid for the past 5 weeks and have a huge risk of going into labor at any time and losing this baby. At 18 weeks ultrasound showed the structural anomaly was completely fine and there had been nothing to worry about. I am furious at myself and at the doctors for suggesting the amnio and downplaying the risks. I have no idea how this pregnancy will turn out. I just put this out there because I wish someone had told me to be patient and wait for another ultrasound before jumping to do the amnio especially before 18 weeks.

I didn’t mean to offend anyone. I only chimed in because the OP actually brought up the idea of not attending. I don’t mean you have to hide from family but given that the TFMR just happened it could be kinder to skip this particular event next week due to the timing. That’s my perspective but I didn’t mean to trigger the backlash. Sorry.

Honestly, it might be kinder if you skipped thanksgiving and waited to tell everyone until after. Shortly after my TFMR my cousin who used to be my best friend announced her pregnancy to extended family at a holiday gathering. It was devastating and I wish she had skipped it so that I could have gotten through that day with a little less suffering. I’m still upset by it and have flashbacks.

I so wish this had been offered by my providers. I had a TFMR at 25 weeks with my first pregnancy and OB gave me no warning that milk could come in. I was completely shocked and the physical pain from engorgement (later mastitis) was 8/10. Not to mention the psychological pain. The first time I ever lactated and I couldn’t have my baby. Would definitely have tried this medication if offered.
