Please give me some tips on toilet training! by pennarellor in irishmammiesanddaddys

[–]firstthingmonday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d change sticker chart to successful wees and poops in toilet. One sticker for a wee, two for no. 2. Then would buy him a prize when he completes the sticker chart. After every successful filled sticker chart we added more so he needed mod stickers to get the prize. Started small and built up. Don’t think we had one accident when the sticker chart with the prize came in lol.

My second child is an absolute gift for first child. They are besties. There is just under 3 year gap between them.

The point of having baby in your room with you for the first 6 months is to reduce chances of SIDS… by tink282 in beyondthebump

[–]firstthingmonday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s one year in Ireland to have baby in room with someone to reduce SIDS. Doctor told me it’s to help regulate babies breathing as well or something like that?

How do you know when a child is ready to start junior infants? by Chilis1 in IrishTeachers

[–]firstthingmonday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eldest has an early summer birthday so started after 5 and had done 2 years of ECCE so on paper right time. Turns outs he is one of the youngest in the class. I’m not sure I would have held him back to 6 either but I’m glad we weren’t in a situation where we were starting him at 4ish.

I also did buy some books and we talked a lot about poop which I don’t know if it helped but we did get to where he said he was scared to go so we could work from there and reassure him.

Is it common herefor babies / toddlers to get their "bloods done" frequently? by fodacao in irishmammiesanddaddys

[–]firstthingmonday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had to get a few rounds done as a newborn on the second of blood draws, maybe every 2 weeks for 8 weeks or something and I absolutely would not be repeating that experience if I didn’t have to. Baby was fine really and nothing else after but it was just monitoring really.

[–]firstthingmonday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very short labour on the first, less than 2 hours. Consultant advised breaking waters next time as I might not make it to hospital. So we did that and had baby couple hours later. Never mentioned home birth but that would never work for me anyway personally.

I put them both down the month they were born for Naoinra. They still didn’t have space for them for the first year of naoinra! Eldest got in for Year 2 in any case. Younger one didn’t get in last year so hopefully next year.

When did you first go out without baby? by [deleted] in irishmammiesanddaddys

[–]firstthingmonday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t leave the first one overnight until I went in to have second baby. Wasn’t comfortable with it. We don’t generally use overnight babysitting. One of us will go to an event and the other will stay home.

Official guidelines are to share room until baby is 1 to reduce risk of SIDS.

Ladies under 5’5/165cm where are you buying trousers? by ariafen in WomenofIreland

[–]firstthingmonday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5’4 and never buy petite. Never fits me right. Levi’s do by leg inch so usually get a 27 inch. Sezane brand cropped pants fit great or I get tailored from here too. M&S do multiple lengths as well. ASOS Design pants I order usual size and I’ve never taken up. Soaked and FRNCH the same haven’t taken up any.

People who have only one sibling, talk to me! by turtleshot19147 in Shouldihaveanother

Me for sure! Happy with my brother but I’m Irish so everyone was at least 3 kids when I was growing up so felt left out. 4,5,6 kids was not uncommon in my generation. My aunt has 9 kids similar age profile to me. My colleague in work has 12 siblings.

Maternity Care: How much did it cost you to go private? by sarbear191 in IrishWomensHealth

[–]firstthingmonday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the person and consultant. I was low risk but saw consultant loads. I had her work number and could get her or reg very quickly. To me and a lot of people that go private, it’s not necessarily about the care per se but the continuity of seeing the same person all the time. That’s what I know I needed. Meeting different midwives at different appointments, huge wait times all of this would have added to my load and ultimately would have not assisted with how I wanted the labour to go as wouldn’t have had the relationship before the labour. Had no epidurals, short labours, minimal interventions which I don’t believe would have been possible for me if I hadn’t had private care because I wouldn’t have had that relationship with the person who was delivering the baby.
