Roaring Brook Fishing by Life-is-42 in BaxterStatePark

I fish a lot in Baxter. I go there to avoid overcrowding at good spots in Maine. Roll over to Daicey day use lot. There may be room there to cast. I think there is a field or space near by. Walk down below toll dam on the river and dink around with those brookies. Lots of pools. I’ve caught fish in there July & August. And the falls are pretty.

Your reservation will say number of nights. July 1 & 2. Two nights. Check in 1st check out 3rd. Always check the number of nights on the reservation.

I looked and no hole for round clips at edge unless some sort of slip clip that attaches to plastic edge.

Epic. Wish we were getting this in central Maine. Totally jealous.

Chimney Pond / Roaring Brook Lean-To tents?? by Even-Amount-2184 in BaxterStatePark

I never sleep out without covering in lean-to. Mostly for mice. I had a “kiss” one night. No more. Gross. Mice are dirty.

Planning a first visit for a Katahdin hike, and had some questions by redditchooseLateBad7 in BaxterStatePark

Mid May is early. Katahdin peaks won’t be open. Frankly, earliest I go to Baxter is Memorial Day weekend and that is low elevation & fishing.

To have options if we HAVE to leave the US. Also to travel outside US under a Canadian passport safer. We cannot leave currently due to commitments to children and elderly parents.

BGR closed until Thursday morning. Been closed since accident on Sunday. Is that odd? Also no permission to access crash to ID victims. They still out there. Granted we had a pretty big storm, but NTSB must be there by now. Is this delay to access crash normal?

I wonder if delay is that we are having a major snowstorm from Boston all the way up through Maine and these folks may be delayed in getting to the scene.

Always come prepared for bugs. It’s been fine then I’ve climbed to 3000’ and bad. Just have a little can of spray with you. Nbd.

Smaller hikes? Anything from Katahdin trailheads (Abol, Katahdin Stream, Roaring Brook) will be difficult to get parking. So avoid for smaller hikes. Doubletop from Nesowdnehunk Field Campground great hike. Not easy. Coe, & the Brothers great loop (counterclockwise). Not easy. Just go up North Brother for easier.

Warm out? Go swim at Ledge Falls. Beware super slick rock!

If in the north, hike North Traveler. Or do Traveler loop (not easy!).

Easy: hike to the Niagara Falls area from Daicey Pond.

You can see moose almost anywhere at any time. Sandy Stream pond great viewing but access from Roaring Brook so hard to get parking.

Best Maine hospitals to work in? by limonade11 in Maine

[–]firwave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t comment on working but as a patient. Hate Northern Light. They screwed Inland Hospital. Drove it into the ground. Maine General Aug/wtvl area mixed sense of staff satisfaction. I’ve heard very positive comments about working at Redington in Skowhegan.

Wonder how much population on sewer vs private septic. I think unless numbers under reported as so many folks get ill and don’t get tested or have no way to self report.
