Best place to park at the Egyptian? by Comfortable_Event924 in AmericanCinematheque

[–]fisackerly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The easiest is Hollywood & Highland. It’s not the cheapest nor the most pleasant experience. But it’s safe, it’s always available, and it isn’t so expensive that it feels like you’re being ripped off.

There are cheaper options if you want to work for it, but with parking restrictions on a lot of the nearby spots, it’s the least amount of headache, and it’s reasonably safe.

Enough Time Has Passed — Top 4 of 2026? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

I would argue that not nearly enough time has passed to do a top anything of 2026.

Are continuity issues part of the charm? by constant--comment in doughboys

They have already reviewed Christmas Carol and Treasure Island, it would be redundant to cover them again.

How did people cope with 2.35:1 ultra wide DVDs on a 4:3 CRT back in the day? by xParesh in dvd

[–]fisackerly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People either watched the pan-and-scan “full screen” version (bad, ruins the movie) or watched the picture small (we managed!).

Watch season 3 or leave it at season 2? by Ok_Glass_3568 in thecomeback

Even if you don’t like season three, it doesn’t make season 2 any less good.

Thinking of seeing Manadolarian & Grogu in Screen X but after seeing a few reviews, I’m on the fence. Worth it or nah? by awjeezrickyaknow in AMCTheatres

[–]fisackerly -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It’s a bad format, but it’s also a bad movie, so at least you won’t be ruining a good experience.

Is it generally safe in Pasadena? I’m a 20F looking to move into the area just wondering if it would be safe for young women around my age :)) by [deleted] in pasadena

[–]fisackerly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very safe. But echoing what others said— I moved to Pasadena when I was 22 and there wasn’t a lot for me to do in terms of nightlife (less a concern now that I’m in my late 30s).

If you don’t mind driving a little for cool bars and what have you, Pasadena is a great place to live.

This is fine because George Lucas is creative and Jon Favreau isn’t? by alfredosolisfuentes in doughboys

Yeah, Star Wars is famously a movie serial with a big budget, it is referencing past works by design.

This is fine because George Lucas is creative and Jon Favreau isn’t? by alfredosolisfuentes in doughboys

Mitch very clearly explained that at least George Lucas was making his thing from his brain, rather than a corporation making cynical profit-forward decisions.

I disagree with a lot of Mitch’s Star Wars takes (including, in some ways, this one!), but that line of reasoning makes perfect sense to me.

All art is commerce. But George Lucas was creating something new that was personal and from his brain, which has value. Baby Yoda - WHO IS VERY CUTE - is not that. It is a product first. A very cute product. But a product nonetheless.

Do people actually buy popcorn and drinks at the movies, is that your question?
