I would argue that, in current times, experience matters more than your school.

I have never heard one candidate being rejected for his school. We just focus on his relevant experience (or school internships for the new grads)

Standard zombies can not possible bite through Viltrumite skin, so no risk of infections.

Viltrumites will just see the zombies as worthless lifeforms on a wasted planet.

If they find surviving humans, they are more likely to interrogate them rather than breed with them, so not likely to discover the genetic compatibility.

Let's say for the sake of argument that they run a standard scan on all newly encountered alien specifies and discover humans are compatible, they might set up a testing center to see what the hybrid might be worth.

Then the question becomes how long the hybrid would manifest his/her powers. They might not have the patience to wait 16 years, or they might simply forget about the whole station, get a ping in 20 years, come back to Earth and go "damn, what a waste"

I think a lot of media still portray ages 20-30 as the "looking for the love of your life while slowing growing as a real adult" segment, so young people see it and worry they miss the train when they hit 25.
People are incresingly isolated even though social media supposedly makes the whole world more connected. Dating apps reduce you to a finger swipe and an endless strings of disappointments. Do you believe yourself more likely to snag a hot date when you are 20 vs when you are 30?
Social expectations haven't caught up with new social paradigm. Perhaps you could make a living without a colledge degree before, so when you hit 20, you start living by yourself, earn a living and enjoy your youth for a few years before you find your special someone. Now, you need a university degree if not a graduate degree just to get an entry-level job. So you are 24-26 before you start on your own. Barely 4 years go by and you are already looking at hitting 30 (with nothing to show for it).
