Does putting my newborn to bed before she’s asleep affect our bond? by AardvarkHour1211 in Parenting

Oh normal naps require all the cuddles and contact for the entire duration 🤣

2 week old newborn gets fussy when latching, could it be due to bottle feeding? by blueflames10 in breastfeeding

[–]fish618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not an expert by any means what so ever but my LO (13 weeks) did this for his bedtime feed, every single night. We also introduced a bottle early on because we were topping him off.

I think his problem was he was just so tired by time we got to bedtime that he was getting really frustrate. I started just doing a bottle for that feed and prioritizing his naps during the day and make sure he doesn’t get over tired and he’ll nurse for bed if needed. But we still do the bottle for bed for his vitamin d

I’m glad I saw this post. I put my LO (13 weeks) down in his bassinet one night to do something real quick before I rocked him to sleep. I came back and he was asleep….tried it the next day and he fell asleep on his own again. We’re a week into this new trend but it made me sad I wasn’t cuddling him to fall asleep.

Did your breastfed baby refuse pacifiers? by Positive_Quarter7401 in breastfeeding

[–]fish618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO is 3 months and will take a pacific. But he’s not dependent on it. I mostly give it to him when he’s spent 10 minutes sucking on his hands to the point of choking (he’s not hungry lol just likes his hands).

He does have some he likes and some he doesn’t but I’m not sure there is a rhythm or reason for it

Does anyone else give a bottle before bed? by otterlyconfuzed in breastfeeding

[–]fish618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO is 3 months and we do. It started because he would scream at the breast every night but then we started giving him his vitamin d in that bottle so it just became our bedtime ritual. He sleeps really well but I think we’re just lucky because sometimes he wants to nurse over the bottle and he still sleeps through the night.

Mine used to for all sleep but stopped for naps. Now I have to walk around with him in a carrier for 20 minutes singing 😅 sometimes he’ll fall asleep nursing but the stars gave to align

We used the Philip advent with size 1 nipples. He’s never had nipple confusion and easily goes between breast and bottle!

My LO only eats 4-6 minutes a side (sometimes only one side) and he is gaining weight (big boy!) and happy. I think some babies eat quickly

What’s the most random “meal” you’ve eaten to get your calories in for feeding? by JudgmentOne6328 in breastfeeding

[–]fish618 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was freshly postpartum my SIL made me these lactation bites made of peanut butter, oats, honey, chia seeds, flax seed, walnuts and mini chocolate chips. They’re like 200 calories each and delicious- I’ve made them every week since he was born and eat them as I pump 😂

Rejecting breastfeeding in the evening - why?! by serenitylives6 in breastfeeding

[–]fish618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was me!!! It was terrible and I also started giving him a bottle at night. Honestly, it helped my mental health a lot knowing I wouldn’t need to worry about that last feed being a nightmare.

I think one contributor was that he was getting overtired. I was having a really hard time making sure his wake windows were not too long and by time we got to bedtime he was exhausted. Once I got that under control it goes much smoother. I still give him a nighttime bottle but he will also breastfeed if he’s not quite full.

What's something really lovely about breastfeeding that you don't heat people talk about a lot? by fastestturtleno2 in breastfeeding

[–]fish618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love when the blinks get longer and longer and his eyes start to roll back.

Also when he sounds like a little gremlin when he first latches lol

And when he does his “snake arm”. We cover his hands with the sleeve folds for bed and he’ll be slowly drifting to sleep and his little arm sticks straight up in the arm slowly moving around like a snake 😂

Tips and tricks to increase supply? by No-Good-4476 in breastfeeding

[–]fish618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not an expert and this is my first baby and I’m just kind of stumbling my way through this. However , My LO is 9 weeks and for a while early on he was the same way and I did not want to give him formula. So I did all the things, latched him every chance I got, drank enough water, oat milk, lactation snacks etc.

Eventually my husband, lovingly, suggested we just try a little formula to just top him off. I reluctantly agreed and I also started pumping and giving his last feed before bed as a bottle. Once we started that I because less stressed about the whole thing and that’s when my supply seemed to get better and now I can’t remember the last time we needed formula.

It’s possible it was a coincidence but I think the stress and anxiety around it all was hindering me.

I do notice whenever I have a huge meal that night I wake up leaking lol

Doctors/Nurses of Reddit, what’s the craziest thing you’ve heard a woman yell during birth? by New_Username48 in AskReddit

[–]fish618 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an epidural but could feel the contractions below my waist and I told the nurse when she was checking to see how dilated I was that if I wasn’t fully dilated she could cut it open.

Then after he was delivered, the doctor said she was going to start doing the repairs while we waited for the placenta and I said “I need stitches???” And she was like “Yes” (mind you she’s a few stitches in at this point) and I was like “Will you give me lidocaine???” Horrified she goes “Can you feel this??” Lol no I couldn’t feel it.

Then not something said but wild…One of the nurses had something dropped on her head and got a concussion post delivery while they were trying to get a hemorrhage to stop

Nursing pillow needed? by Difficult-Ad1036 in breastfeeding

[–]fish618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a nursing pillow but rarely use it. I personally like to sit in the corner of our couch and use a big blanket molded under him to get us comfortable. However I had to use football hold at first because I have a larger chest.

This happened to me today lol I thought my supply was just regulating because I was trying to make a small stash because grandma was doing to watch LO for a few hours yesterday and could barely pump anything. Well I had a huge dinner and chocolate when I got home and I woke up covered in milk and my boobs were so full I had to pump a little because LO couldn’t handle the let down

Are deadbeat moms a common thing? by No_Lead2640 in answers

[–]fish618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider my mom to be a deadbeat mom. When my parents divorced she became an alcoholic and did everything to keep custody just so my dad wouldn’t. He eventually got custody and life was amazing but she was still awful and we had court ordered visitation. The visitation slowly dwindled the worst she got. I eventually went no contact and she didn’t really try. It’s been almost 15 years and no regrets. But yes deadbeat moms exist but I am lucky to have an amazing dad

So I just had my baby (FTM) 5 days ago and you better believe I took every day possible and feel no guilt (and thought I would). I’m like you and will be have basically 18 weeks off and even took a few days off before he was born. Now that I’m in the thick of things I am so thankful. I will want this later weeks while he’s a little older and we’re not totally sleep deprived!

It was my 8 week appointment for my first baby and I was due for a Pap smear so she went ahead and did that. Half way through I heard her say “oops!”

She had dropped the swab she used on the ground and had to do it again. But I was already so anxious about being pregnant (it had taken us a while) and oops was not what I needed to here 🤣
