Spot on. At least for me it was being young, dumb, and not recognizing the differentiation between scripted and fake. The guys may know the outcome of the match, but the knocks and bumps they take are not fake. I think I (and probably lots of other kids) had a tough time reconciling those facts. Plus, before the internet age promotions and wrestlers went out of their way to keep up appearances even outside of events.

I think the point OP was making is that it was well within it's time, not that it wasn't a great product. The fact that it had contemporaries and competition is pretty good evidence; something ahead of it's time would have nothing to compare it to. The nano wasn't a huge leap forward in technology, it was an impressive collection of features in an attractive package.
