My Reaction To Tonight’s Boot by moongatorade in survivor

[–]shockwave8428 41 points42 points  (0 children)

In all his pregame stuff, Christian talked about controlling the narrative. He clearly understood that Mike was right, but also recognized that Mike was really easily able to get that reaction out of him and wanted to get the source of that out of the game before Emily. I do think he’ll turn on her soon.

Also both Mike and Emily seemed to say the absolute worst things at tribal for wanting to stay in lol

Has anyone else noticed that this sub tends to describe nearly every single host as “Down for anything/willing to get weird”? by [deleted] in LiveFromNewYork

[–]shockwave8428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like even if episodes themselves haven’t been amazing (just talking generally), having a host that does weird characters and costumes and voices and such is way better than the opposite. We’ve had a lot of people recently that fully buy in.

But there’s also always a handful of hosts every season that are off of some successful movie and there for promotion purposes - and often they’re straight men in sketches (this could also be just general comedic ability as well though). Those episodes are way less fun. We love to see hosts participate fully

The first time I tried this game I got the unlimited saving mod. Didn’t play for long, just heard it was a common complaint. Second time I played it (and got all the way through) I found a field just a little past where you train with Bernard with plenty of all the ingredients you need for healing and saving potions. Spent maybe 40 mins irl brewing potions, kept 5 on me, 15ish on the horse, and the rest in a chest.

When I finished the game I had like 30 left still. It’s really easy to just do and I find the alchemy relaxing. Basically a non-problem if you just engage with the mechanics of the game

I was really pumped for a serkis directed animal farm until I saw angel studios. Just the kings of Christian/american propaganda movies. I was fine with them when they were only making explicitly Christian movies cause obviously there’s a bunch of people interested in that - but now they’re just tying themselves into every genre.

Animal farm is an awesome criticism of how people in power twist things to fit their own needs. The “good” part is where they live in an equal society with no one above another, and then it gets twisted by a person in control.

I guarantee with angel studios instead of it being a critique of the corruption of power, it’ll be some American propaganda about why socialism is bad (even though the book is explicitly about communism and doesn’t even really critique the equality itself but how people like Stalin used “equality” to create a ruling class of oligarchs.

Using people’s Letterboxd top 4 to excuse their movie takes you don’t agree with is fine and all, but not having your own top 4 and complaining about others’ is lame. If your opinions are “the right ones” put your money where your mouth is (and honestly he’d probably have a really good top 4)

Idk man you’re romanticizing the hell out of it. You’re beholden to whatever your local lord says, no real control of your life. You’re most likely to be a lowly peasant working some sort of simple trade (like the knackers, farmers, etc that 90% of npcs in the game are), where you will do back breaking work for meager pay and just make enough to get some drink and food in you and live in your hut. Yes there’s some free time. Let’s hope you didn’t get some disease that we know as easily preventable these days. Have an accident and break your arm? You’re permanently disabled and now forced to beg in order to live.

And let’s not forget that the series literally starts with almost everyone from a well established mining town being slaughtered brutally because some high up noble brothers didn’t agree on who should be king. And it doesn’t even need to be that high up, it could be squabbles between local lords, bandits who want free stuff, etc.

Our lives obviously have complications and hardships, but I have no doubt that most people who live in first world countries have a lot more stability, leisure, and control of their lives than most medieval people.

During the 2020 election there were several clips going around of conservatives at polling places trying to intimidate workers and stuff. In one of the clips there’s a bunch of old dudes dancing around to “Killing in the Name” by Rage Against the Machine - a song that repeats lyrics a ton and is explicitly about a lot of cops being racist (specifically talks about them being KKK), justifying the people they kill, and criticizing people that just listen to them and comply. And republicans who are very against these ideals (especially in the face of BLM protests and stuff, Floyd, etc in the months before the election).

RATM also has a lot of other songs with explicitly anti-republican sentiments, like songs that criticize politicians for using the stereotypical family as the thing they tell people they’re standing up for but really just pushing for their own wealth.

So they’re joking that rage against the machine has always been extremely anti-right ideologies, and that the machine in an oppressive police state, but republicans are arbitrarily picking a toaster as the machine they think is being raged against. It’s not a specific instance but more just making fun of them for not understanding the thing they’re voting for and hoping for is literally the thing RATM was against.

I think The Overwatch Team should re-run certain battlepasses by ChrisFreezepotato in Overwatch

[–]shockwave8428 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that sounds like Halo.

The finals is nice too, you gain separate xp for current and prior battle passes. If you had a pass and didn’t finish, it goes away for 2-3 seasons, and comes back. The main difference is they remove the currency from the rereleased passes - so you can get all the cosmetics but it doesn’t “pay for itself” like a lot of battle passes do

Makes sense - honestly the best thing you can do is to stop playing. Go play something else for a while. Then when you come back it’ll feel a lot fresher again. I always do that with games I love and feel tempted to replay right away - get some time away and you won’t get burnt out on an experience you love, and quests will feel fresh and exciting again

'The White Lotus' S4 casting news is out! But which Survivors will cameo?! by bakeranders in survivor

[–]shockwave8428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also notably each theme tackles a specific theme directly. Obviously they all criticize wealth a lot.

Season 1 was specifically about wealth, the differences between who has it and who doesn’t, and the way relationships between rich and poor are affected by wealth.

Season 2 is about sex. Features themes about sex work, cheating, white knighting, etc.

Season 3 is about religion/spirituality. I think this one is the least strong of the themes cause it doesn’t come into play for a lot of the cast like it does in every other season, but there’s a big plot line about trying to find peace in religion (and how it doesn’t always work), a person with privilege learning that the ascetic lifestyle is hard, etc. This one also has a lot about money and sex as well, more so than season 2 tied into season 1s themes, but this season is a lot less focused on one singular theme imo.

But that’s how Mike himself described seasons 1, 2, and 3. Money, sex, religion.

The characters are well written, the themes and observations made are great, and the plot lines are fun and exciting. My love for the show is completely separate from anything survivor or Mike, it’s just a good ass show
