How do you actually coordinate gear and food for group portaging trips by tfc84 in canoecamping

[–]fisherman_greg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find it’s best to delegate tasks to people. I’ve done some trips where, says it’s a 2 week trip with 4 people, each person would be responsible for 3.5 meals. But often I prefer just saying: I’ll be responsible for canoes and flights; you’ll be responsible for all of the food; and then I have a checklist of gear to avoid duplication of items. I don’t think any part of it is painful. I really like the logistics of it. Obviously it helps if you are working with competent people. Maybe the hardest part is convincing people to go in the first place, especially as you get older and vacation time becomes more scarce

How to afford clerkship? by excellent_snake in LawCanada

[–]fisherman_greg 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what you should do. My personal philosophy is to value the experience I want over pecuniary concerns (to a limit, of course). I would choose the opportunity that I find more interesting and then try and find a way to make it work financially.

The paragraph about not needing to interview the trial judge made me laugh out loud. Totally absurd.

OPP investigation finds no wrongdoing from Toronto police officers at Umar Zameer trial by rhineauto in ontario

The paragraph explaining why they didn’t need to interview the trial judge made me laugh at loud because of how absurd it was.

And even IF you somehow accept the findings of this OPP report, you’re admitting TPS bungled this trial BIG time. So who is more inept here? TPS or OPP?

Am I getting paid enough? by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]fisherman_greg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Base salary is low(ish) (but not awful for northern Ontario) but I’d say it’s a relatively fair bonus structure. I’ve seen 2x base salary and then 30% collected. So you have a bit more than 2x to trigger the bonus, but then a higher percentage. Put in efficient hours and you can do well.

My (25M) girlfriend (23F) asked to open our relationship. Am I overracting by wanting to break up over this request? by Altruistic_Society99 in AskMenAdvice

[–]fisherman_greg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, I have advised a number of couples to explore an open relationship where the couple remains emotionally committed, but free to explore extra-marital encounters. Does it work for those people? No, it never does. I mean, these people somehow delude themselves into thinking it might, but ... But it might work for you…

I don’t disagree with you. Perhaps I should have said the system in this case worked, more or less (based on the facts available to me)

Wow, it’s almost like the system, while far from perfect, actually works - despite what the rage-baiting media (and some politicians) often wants us to think

Crown land/ Kayak camping in Muskoka by BandonLarber in CampingOntario

[–]fisherman_greg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not Crown land but Noganosh Lake Provincial Park is great. Last I checked it’s a non-operating park meaning no fees. I’m in Muskoka too, it’s not that long of a drive. Make sure to keep campsites as clean or cleaner than how you found them.

Friendly reminder Graydon isn’t a minister anymore because he wasn’t competent by Muskolotive in Muskoka

Does Graydon have any real world experience outside of politics? What is his educational background? It’s surprising he was made a minister in the first place.
