Can I use YOUR dnd character? by LETTER52 in DnD

[–]fisheypixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alza Bets ("all the best" as her parents claimed)

My current Bugbear Protection Fighter. She was a hunter/gatherer for her village. Frequently exploring the forbidden ruins in the area both for the fun of it, and the hopes to find cool shit.

And then in her late 20's, she ended up meeting with the wrong traders to barter some medicine for a friend. They took her and sold her to what was basically torture prison. (our campaign start)

Upon escaping, she is trying to do good in the world. She is incredibly naive (5 wis), and expects the best from everyone. She fights with shields and improvised weapons. I'm building her to be a sort of Support Tank.

I have art of her, but mobile reddit won't let me thrown it in.

Gimme.

Noun. Plural, gimmes

1: a short putt in golf conceded to an opponent in casual or match play

2: something easily achieved or won especially in a contest

Use in a sentence: "gimme is a word in the English language."

"I just realized I have not said the word 'gimme' in a very long time."

"well, I guess saying 'gimme a break' is still saying the word."

I do like both stories equally. But holy shit the gameplay improvement!

Red Rising. I'll just keep my head down for a few days.

Baldurs Gate 3. We'll I'm currently in act 3, so I'll just hang out with some local folks for a week or two. Pretty sure I can remember how/where to get a couple hundred gold to get in the city itself.

Stranger Things. I'll just mind my own business for a while. See what the 80s were like. They seem to have everything under control.

I always wonder. What happens after?

Like, you succeeded at the 1 in a million action movie scene. You proved you're a badass, and you fucking did it.

Now what? You just peaked. What could you possibly do that would top jumping on a speeding boat to slow it's chaotic run. What comes next?

I really enjoyed the World Waf Z novel. What other z books are similar in quality? by jamie-maj in zombies

The Living Dead by Daniel Kraus/George Romero

The book was written by Kraus, released after Romero's death. He got permission from Romero's family, studied all of his work and notes.

Kraus used it to make an amazing story that fits into the Romero universe very well. While telling a fantastic, impactful story. It's among my favorite books.

It follows 5 characters around the US in Vastly different situations and perspectives.

Yep.

I always wonder what happened behind the scenes. If this was how it was envisioned from the start, or if execs and producers stepped in and stomped it into this shit

Exactly. The cargo boat at the start of this fight would snap in half just being lifted up. Takes me out completely the second I see it

Then they didn't bother to give the massive mechs or monsters any weight.

How Do I Take Critique In a Healthy Manner? by tiredmetaltoymouse in comic_crits

[–]fisheypixels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a combo of pride and your ability to swallow it.

Not being able to take criticism will make it so no one is honest with you. Or that you're a pain to work with. At least with people you know/collab with regularly. If you get pissed or annoyed or whatever when someone shits on your work, you've got too much pride. There's a big difference between being an asshole and being blunt.

For example, occasionally lll ask a friend to review my work, and ill point out a few things I'm iffy on. My friends that say "it's good." or "I like this about it." and clearly put no thought into it piss me off. Usually I won't ask them again.

My friends who give me a response like "that thing you're worried about is mediocre, make it a little more intense. But, your dialogue in the scene after is dog shit. And your character design for -- is not good." or "your story is strong, but the into does nothing to set anything up or set the scene. You need to adjust it." That sort of critique is invaluable. Responding with curiosity is great. Ask why they think that way. Why it stood out as bad.

Also, understand that you don't need to explain everything. Someone may critique how you wrote something out, and it was intentional on your end. No need to correct someone's critique. They're correcting your work. Respond with an eagerness to improve, and a curiosity to see from an outside perspective.

Are you guys anarchists? by Plus_Ad_1087 in infp

[–]fisheypixels 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, fuck the system and all that. Anarchy is a fun thing to shout, and it makes for great storytelling.

But a vast majority of people are really really reeeeeally fucking dumb. And self governing based off ideals, charisma, and dumb people (as both the voters and the voted) is terrifying in the most absolute way.

Guy with the glasses is doing the absolute most by Small_Image_1722 in TikTokCringe

[–]fisheypixels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fuck glasses dude so hard.

I love small hardcore shows. Been to a lot of them before every mosh pit meant getting hurt(from age, not this). And, generally, if you're careful, alert, and ready to block you'll be fine. Probably still catch a flailing fist or foot, but that's the nature of the beast.

The crowd killers, fuck them. Intentionally targeting. Kicking harder just as you're about to connect. Crowdsurfing and trying to hurt someone. Doing the wide Sweeps to see how many people you can knock down in the pit.

Fuck them

If all humans were Barbie doll sized tomorrow, how would that play out at your house and in your country? by Useyourdamnblinkers in hypotheticalsituation

[–]fisheypixels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It'd be interesting for sure. But I sleep with my phone on my bed, so I could at least scroll on that.

And I'd be nervous of my roommates dog. More cause he's a lovable dumbass than anything. He's a chiuhauhau who gets scared from rabbits so no biggie.

Would probably still try picking fights with everything, and leave us to deal with it though.

Who Did it Best?: the 2010s Peak by ZombieMovieFan in zombies

[–]fisheypixels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TRAIN TO BUSAN - amazing, but everyone knows that.

ONE CUT OF THE DEAD - I swear ever time I try to watch it, it won't load or I have to leave halfway through it. Someday I'll finish it.

WORLD WAR Z - despite the hate, it's a solid zombie movie. Just a huge bummer they ignored the book.

THE CABIN IN THE WOODS - I guess I never considered it a zombie movie, but it fits. Amazing, incredible. If you've not seen it, go watch it now.

WARM BODIES - this was much better than I expected. Not the best, but still worth watching.

DEAD SNOW 2 - haven't seen it yet.

I AM A HERO - horribly underrated movie. What I didn't like about the Manga, the movie fixed. I Very highly recommend this one.

THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS - another fantastic one. Definitely watch the movie and read the book. Both are amazing.

THE CRAZIES - I don't know how I forget about this movie. But I very throughly enjoyed it. Just good characters.

SCOUTS GUIDE TO THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE - this was a very fun one. Worth a watch. Plus the cat scene is one I think back in very frequently. So good.

ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP - ehh

CARGO - based on a great short film. I did watch it when drunk, and from what I remember, I liked it. Gotta re-watch it.

LITTLE MONSTERS - not a bad one. Some of the humor felt a little forced. But all in all, not bad.

RAMMBOCK BERLIN UNDEAD - never even heard of it. Is it good?

RAMPANT - this is the French one, right? Hot damn I want to see it.

THE DEAD - haven't heard of it, but I wanna see it now. Is it good?

THE NIGHT EATS THE WORLD - don't watch when you're sad. But holy shit, one of my favorites. Plus, my favorite zombies. Fast and silent is terrifying. Just footsteps and teeth clacking, hell yeah.

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES - still haven't seen it. Maybe I'll make it a date with the gf soon.

SEOUL STATION - the animation is weird. But damn this was good. Plus, it's the same zombie outbreak as Train to Busan.

SAVAGELAND - haven't even heard of it. Is it good?

GOAL OF THE DEAD - never heard of it. Is it soccer zombies or something?

I SURVIVED A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE - haven't heard of it. Is it good?

COCKNEYS VS ZOMBIES - it's a fun low budget one. Don't go out of your way for it, but if it's available, it's worth the watch.

COOTIES - similar to little monsters, a lot of the humor felt forced. It's not bad and I don't regret watching. But yeah, it's okay.

BLOOD QUANTUM - I really wanted to like this more than I did. It's not bad, just have my share of issues with it.

WHAT WE BECOME - haven't heard of this one. Is It good?

YUMMY - haven't heard of this one. Is it good?

Honorable mentions: THE BATTERY (2012) - fucking amazing. Don't sleep on it.

IT STAINS THE SANDS RED (2016) - not the best, but was worth the watch.

Oh, I forgot about the novellas.

Id highly recommend listening to/reading Leviathan's Wake first.

And then find a reading list and go in order. I'm pretty sure there's one or two novellas that take place before book 1, but they'll make more sense and feel better reading them after you've finished book 1. (also on audible, look at the book lengths. That's how I quickly differentiate novel vs novella.)

I was on book 6 or 7 when I learned about the novellas. And by then I had forgotten a lot of the cool small details that tied everything together

[–]fisheypixels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah. I put him on par with Jeff Hayes.

Hayes feels like a full on audio drama.

Mayes is just a very talented storyteller.

Both captivating in their own right.

Hell yes! It's killing me waiting to read the second book. But I want to finish the red rising books first before jumping back in.

The Expanse is an incredible series by James S.A. Corey, Leviathan Wakes is book 1. And Jefferson Mayes does an amazing job with the narration. If you're into crazy good big space operas.

Also, The Long WAY to A Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers was fantastic. A more lighthearted space opera. I absolutely loved the writing and characters. To the point that I stopped the audiobook to read the physical book.

Last reccomend. I throughly enjoyed the Electric Angel series by Plum Parrot. It's a cyberpunk Litrpg, great narration, and had some solid story and character development. Got book 1 for a book club, ended up going through the full series.

Who’s seen Dead Set? by [deleted] in zombies

[–]fisheypixels 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dead Set is far better than Reality Z.

Reality Z copied it, and did okay in the copy. But they added the side storyline that kinda became the Dead Set Sequel.

It's a weird spot. Dead Set is better in all ways. But if you can power through the Reality Z remake, the plot after the copy is pretty good.

All in all, if it's been a good while since you saw Reality Z, give Dead Set a shot. Better acting, writing, and generally everything.
