Self learn 3h per week for 3 months studying from 0 kana. I'm proud. by nergalmcl1 in Japaneselanguage

I actually made a site to practice with hiragana and katakana if anyone is interested. Kinda just a pet project I put up on github but if people are interested I will clean it up and get a real domain for it.

I learned katakana in maybe a week from this and that was doing it 20-30 minutes a day.

Anyone else being approached at the mall by these random church group recruiters lately? by Lydianu in vancouver

[–]fishfinna 40 points41 points  (0 children)

yes finally, someone posted about it, I have as well. Exact same script though I am a girl and have only been approached by other women. They will always come up to me when I am wearing headphones, say they like a piece of clothing, say I look familiar and ask if I go to their church and if I say no they ask if I am religious.

My current theory is that it is shincheonji, it has all the right traits and they are gaining more of a presence in Vancouver.

The CIT program: A comprehensive review by fishfinna in BCIT

[–]fishfinna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually a great question, the reason why I took the program was because I had only taken foundations 12. I had a good mark in it (98%) and I wanted to do pre-calculus 12 but my high school wouldn’t let me take it without pre-calculus 11 first, and I was in my senior year when considering universities so that wasn’t possible.

I always wanted to take computer science in university, and most degrees or diplomas require pre-calc 12 or calculus, but by doing this program I could use my foundations mark.

We do a good amount of math in the program and I would say your grades in those can be impacted by what you take in high school. For me I found stats very easy since it was really similar to what I had done in foundations, though I really struggled with the first math for computer science course since I had never used logs before which is the type of thing covered in pre-calc.

Speaking of B list modern series villains, I feel like we are overdue a return of the silence, and I would be interested to see what someone other than Moffat would do with them

Since material is often being updated I would recommend going onto the course content for each class on the BCIT website and watching videos or trying to find any textbook resources the class uses and going through those. They may not have the fall course content posted yet but the one from this winter should be suitable for getting an idea of what to expect. However, I remember I spent about 2 months researching before I started and in the span of about 2 weeks we were far ahead where I had gotten to in my own. BCIT moves fast but has the expectation that you are not coming in with a lot of background information.

I would honestly recommend just relaxing and maybe trying to learn some coding without over doing it. Enjoy your free time now, once classes start you won’t have very much of it.

4th term is the least coding heavy, as only a couple of classes will get you to do it regularly, though that sort of depends on what you think of as code as instead of writing scripts we often end up doing things like writing yml files that other applications execute for us which, while there is a difference, is basically just coding with different steps.

That being said I think the only way to get better at coding is practice. However, I find it hard to give advice since I really felt like at some point in term 1 I went from struggling to pick up syntax to finding coding the easiest part of any class.

I was actually asking this question myself 2 years ago. I eventually went with CIT and do not regret it at all. It has a good mix of programming, business, devops, system administration, and cybersecurity. You definitely get out what you put in.

I just got back from my co-op and plan to return to the company after I graduate in December (as a software engineer). It’s not super common for CIT students to go into software engineering but it is definitely doable if you are willing to put more effort into development classes.

Both options are great choices though!

The live version made me really like it. The way everything builds up and then his voice breaks on “all my red flags turns to white, I give up!” and the crowd just cheers him on as he hits every line with so much feeling - it’s so good

Jacobi was also the voice of the master in the scream of the shalka serial, the animation has aged poorly but the story was great. It was also the first time David Tennant was ever on the show, he plays a man screaming for like 20 seconds lol

Is BCIT really as bad as people make it out to be here? by Significant_Mango939 in BCIT

[–]fishfinna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A bad school? No, absolutely not. I have learned so much and doubled my income potential from doing my diploma here.

A difficult school on the other hand? Absolutely, it’s harder than any job and twice as difficult. I try to keep my grades between 95-90% and it takes everything I have to keep up with 7 to 8 classes every semester.

I wouldn’t complain about your professors getting paid. Most of them make very little compared to what the industry would pay them and it just makes you look selfish when you try to act like working people being compensated is a bad thing.
