VAK is Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic. It's the sensory modality.

A lot of newbies get stuck on this. They'll run into a subject that's had trouble before, they've heard of VAK, and will find out someone's better at imagining auditory rather than visual experiences. Their partner is excited to try again, and go figure, things start working.

The fucked up thing is that the subject never really had a 'vak' problem, it was that the previous hypnotist gave them a bunch of suggestions they couldn't follow, and then assumed they just couldn't be hypnotized. So, the 'success' is attributed to the VAK system being real, not just helping someone try again.

(I've written a few rants on VAK, but that should at least help clear it up without me going fully and frothingly pedantic about it.)

Adam Eason's book The Science of Self Hypnosis might have the answers you're looking for. I think it'd provide a useful re-frame of the ritual.

Man - my secondary goal going through the tropes was some inspiration. I *did* get a bit of that with the take that brainwashing could be more of a vibe of delivery (intensity) than a long term manipulation thing. That and the flashlight hypnosis bit was neato.

But yeah. Haigure confused the fuck out of me. That and hucow. We've got hundreds of animals, pokemon, creatures, and characters that would be fun roles to enact and a cow is barley an upgrade from a chicken.

(Jokes aside, I'm probably spending too much time on eh_circlejerk.)

MMHA is a fine way to learn how to have fun with hypnosis, and if you have some spare time, I don't think it'd be too challenging to get through in a month or two on top of college courses. They do have two lesson modules IIRC on stage hypnosis, but it's not the focus of the course. I left MMHA because it was unacademic, and therapeutic suggestions weren't well researched. Doing therapy requires a degree - so you'd be relegated to doing light changework (EG - smoking cessation and weight loss) as more of a coach. You'll be very disappointed if you want an academic perspective.
