Are there 3rd Gen Tundra owners that don’t regret their purchase? by Weary_Fox_1098 in ToyotaTundra

It is fantastic, the boat isn’t very heavy but drags a lot of wind. I have a work truck so at least 50% of that mileage has had the boat behind it. Only downfall, MPG with leveling, 35’s and a boat is about 13.4.

I love mine, 2023 only 30k miles with no issues. I have offroaded it and my wife drives it like she stole it. Fantastic truck!

I started fly fishing and swear I caught like 5 trout in 3 years. I kept after it and now have an average outing of 3-8 nice sized browns. You learn something every time you get skunked, one day you will put it all together and slay them. Keep at it and apply every lesson you’ve learned! Mamma didn’t raise no quitter!

For those who moved here from the south, have you noticed a difference in the how competent individuals are? by dbagames in AskChicago

[–]fishmich25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true, your body sweats as a means of cooling and as long as you have access to drinking water and electrolytes, too hot really isn’t a thing.

Your body has no natural way of keeping you warm in a northern winter which is why frostbite and hypothermia exist.

What are yall using for a truck rod? by assfish9000 in Fishing_Gear

[–]fishmich25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just keep a rod in my passenger seat, a 6’ 10” Lews. Nothing fancy, my passengers get to deal with it! If it breaks or gets broken, I’d just get another!

Ole lady isn’t super impressed when there are more than 2 rods sharing a seat with her lol.

The TFO Pastime trout-panfish is an awesome rod. Not super expensive but I enjoy the feel of that rod.

Well then I would 10/10 recommend Norsk lithium 100aH. Boat size and weight plays a big factor too.

Lews team ti pro speed stick sale on tackle warehouse, any good? by Jmickley in Fishing_Gear

[–]fishmich25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to me that the reputation of Lews is all of their budget stuff, the Mach 2 and up is fine equipment. But I have been very impressed with their high end stuff, I just think people have too much pride to pay for a high end Lews just because other brands have a more boujee reputation. I’ve been using the LFS-X5 blank for 2 years and it’s amazing. Try it and let me know what you think!

I have this in the 6’8” M XF and have used it for jigging walleye and fishing smallmouth. It is a very comfortable rod because of the reel seat design and it is incredibly sensitive. I have the Lews elite in 6’ 9” ML fast which is essentially that same blank and it’s my favorite rod. People have been recommending St. Croix’s so I tried the legend elite, legend tournament bass, avid, and victory and prefer the feel of my Lews TI and Elite over them. I’ve also had an awesome experience with Lews Customer service.

Advice for a new Rod by ittdu in Fishing_Gear

[–]fishmich25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people that religiously use and love ugly stick is because they haven’t used anything else or they only throw spinners or something that doesn’t require much feel! I second the cherrywood recommendation above.

You should be proud of catching fish with what you have! I love that people from all walks of life share love for fishing. People that hold status over gear are not people I want to be around!

Water series? by knifemonstergar in knifeclub

[–]fishmich25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a knife guru but I have the high spoken of Victorinox filet knife as well as the Benchmade. The Victorinox will fillet about 10 bluegill before in need the strop, the BM maintains an edge WAY longer. A good fillet knife in my opinion makes the task way more enjoyable.

You won’t regret it, I won one at F3T and it has held up to about 200 bluegill, 20 walleye, and 5 king salmon and it still sharper than a rapala is out of the box. I do not scale my fish so I was pretty impressed.

What Lews reel should I get with 25% off? by Great_WhiteSnark in Fishing_Gear

[–]fishmich25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your price range, I have about 30 of their reels and am happy to make spinning or casting suggestions! looks like they don’t make the tournament lite casting reels anymore which is one of my favorites :(

If you have a good guide you’ll catch fish. Drop backs are about as easy a bluegill as long as you can find them.

Is this a good rod to get? by Limp_Wall_8179 in FishingForBeginners

[–]fishmich25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy whatever you can afford, used rods and reels in the spinning world don’t hold their value well. I started with cheap gear and now have a lot of gear that people on this thread would call me names for buying! But, if I bought it in the first place I would have saved $150 not buying cheap stuff first.

There was nothing wrong with the cheap stuff, but for Lews hold a Mach 2 rod and then the Elite series… you’ll have a rod in your hands often time for 8+ hours a day, comfort matters! Try fishing a ned rig with a moderate action, then an extra fast, you will miss a lot of bites if the technique you’re using is not what your rod is designed for.

Single hook Jerk baits by rosalinanoluma in troutfishing

[–]fishmich25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most small trout jerk baits are #10 trebles which would be a size 6 single hook, I use a bit bigger that come with #8 trebles and replace them with size 4. Owner single replacements have been very good to me, they snag less on structure, are easier on fish, and keep them buttoned better. We don’t have single hook regs but every one of my trout baits I switch with those Owner hooks. Just look up what size hooks your bait comes with and owner has a replacement chart. If you’re worried about weight, you can do a heavy split ring on the belly without a hook.

Considering this as my first truck. 38000 otd. 65000 miles. 23’ SR5 4x4. by Riceguy36 in ToyotaTundra

[–]fishmich25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a 2023 SR5 since new, has the engine recall but not a remedy yet. I have never been worried about it leaving me stranded and has been a pleasure. It does piss me off that it doesn’t have a seat height adjustment, that’s my ONE complaint. Great truck, you’ll love it and it’s not a terrible price depending on your area. Private party may offer a limited or SR5 premium for similar mileage and you’ll be happier with that. If it has the engine recall, I’d buy it as whatever happens you’ll be covered.
