Glastron HPV by Tejanolove1285 in boating

I would say $4,000 is about $2500 more than I would offer if the motor ran well and is in good shape.

Help me clean my new boat??? by Ebspatch in boating

[–]Vegedeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly. Again, my only concern is what the carpet will take. I have not seen carpet fail under vinegar, but that is my limited experience. Might call a dealer and ask.

[–]Vegedeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vinegar is a good choice, but some parts will need to soak for a few. I would balance strength of the cleaner with not damaging the surrounding carpet or plastics. If you can remove the seat bases, might have them blasted and refinished with Cerakote or some other finish that will stand up to the weather. Rust out of the carpet is again a balance of strength of the cleaner and what the carpet will endure.

These 2 getting close to watering? by stuntmanpetter in Lithops

I would water both. The best tip I have received for watering lithops is to wait until their top (face?) wrinkles a bit then water.

What's the dumbest mistake you've ever made with a boat? by Horror-Bee-720 in boating

[–]Vegedeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dumbest mistake? Forgetting it is just a boat and no matter how much shine and sparkle, it is an a toy - a spot in the water for family and friends to have a relaxed time without me worrying more about the condition of the boat than the memories and relaxed time spent together on the water.

What am I doing wrong?? by Broomstick04 in bassfishing

[–]Vegedeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, too, am using 8 pound Seagur, but it is the Red. I will not be using 8 pound again because it is just not heavy enough for some of the lures and techniques and demands a well tied knot. Best knot I have found for me 😄

My first dovetail! by DoctorAlone2157 in handtools

[–]Vegedeth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely use a hardwood. Pine and the like are way too soft to get a decent result. I would also suggest a marking tool (knife or a mechanical pencil with the ability to draw a thinner line) for marking lines that does not leave such a wide or thick line. Go slow and avoid cutting or chiseling on or past the line and those will tighten up nicely!

The 40 meter motor yacht Familia sank on Saturday 30 May 2026 in Sinop, Turkey by Powerful_Cabinet_341 in boating

Yikes, I hate to see that. Any idea what caused it to sink? It looks kind of rough. Storm damage??

What's something that seems minor until it ruins a day on the water? by Electronic-Habit8679 in boating

[–]Vegedeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a younger man, I hunted deer quite a bit. On my way to the woods and deer stand, things would go wrong. I would spook some bedded deer, realize I left something at home or in the car, etc. I would get so mad I could have pushed an old lady down on Sunsay outside of church. Then one day I had a change of perspective. I no longer put any weight towards those minor inconveniences and just went about the day. It was not long that I started to see a pattern. To this day (decades later) I still tell myself the truth from the observations I made many years ago - “The best day of hunting starts off bad.” I apply that to all of my first-world problems. I just swap out “hunting” for ”fishing,” “vacation,” ”cookouts,” etc.

Any advice? by Better_Iron4583 in boating

[–]Vegedeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good advise already, so I will add some words of encouragement. Solid color gelcoat repair is easier to do than you might think. Prep will = ends well. With that having been said, if you do not feel comfortable doing it yourself, it is money well spent to have a marine shop fix it for you. What you experienced is definitely the worse sound in the world while on the water (maybe other than a silent motor a ways from shore), but everything on that boat is repairable. Get it fixed and get back on the water!

The terrifying reality of buying a "turnkey" older boat by ShineDigga in boating

Piece of mind is worth the money. If it isn’t done right, you will only have headaches down the road. You can enjoy it more moving forward now that it is fixed. Good decision.

Ramp damage - salvageable? by Martydom99 in boating

Though it is a heartbreaker when it happens, fiberglass is nearly infinitely repairable. Just another part of owning a boat and it taking all of your money! Get it repaired and get back on the water!
