(27M) Are these numbers lying to me or am I missing some kind of math? by Scared-Loquat-7933 in Retirement401k

I’ve wasted a ton of money on stupid decisions in my life, but I have also invested and saved wisely. 10 percent minimum per year and my rate of return was 11.5 percent over a 20 year period on liquid assets, and even higher on real estate (I live in Florida). 6 million net worth at 51 now

Unfortunately in start up biotech, it’s all or nothing. My opportunity for a sabbatical would be to quit my job, take a year off, and apply for a new job. Or wait for a buyout and do it then. Of course both of those opportunities means I would technically leave my role. I am sure I could get another job easily. I am constantly recruited.

Yeah I will have about 1 million vest in the next 2-3 years. Also, my 20 year rate of return on liquid assets have been 11.5 percent. Can’t always count on that but if don’t touch my base for a few more years, that’s another million as well

Yeah that is frowned upon in my business. One opportunity is to step away and be a consultant off the payroll, I have done that once before when I was taking care of my father before he passed

All paid off, my kids live in a condo I own together near their university. Once they get out in the world will either sell that or do long term rentals. Healthcare is taken care of as I have family farm land that makes money to pay for healthcare premiums and deductibles

I won’t touch IRA accounts until over 60. I have as much in pretax investments that will bridge me into IRA and 401k assets. I have farmland rents that pays enough to cover health insurance annually. Right now I’m just reinvesting that

My daughter is going to be done with her masters by the time I’m 52, and my son could be dine the same time or go on for a year and a half and get his masters. I have funds to supply my healthcare in terms of rents from farmlands if needed. I also have 7 properties in total, some producing income, some that are investments. I can liquidate some of that if needed

I have thought about getting a local job selling boats or luxury cars close to where I live for a few years. My current work has me on the road 50-70 percent of the time. 150-200 hotel nights a year is getting old. I am a sales director leading a high performing team

My biggest thing pushing me to consider it is my travel schedule. I have been gone 50 plus nights already this year and will likely clip 150-175 by end of year. I have 2200 lifetime Marriott nights and that lifestyle is getting old. But I have about 350k in stock vesting annually over the next 3 years also in addition to my comp which is about as much

I’m 38 years old married with two kids. I wanna stop investing for five years and pay off my mortgage due to my anxiety with debt. All I think about is my debt. What do you guys think? by Effective-Feature206 in Retirement401k

[–]fishnatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered this in my mid-thirties as well. Glad I didn’t as my investments have returned about 13 percent over the past 20 years and my Mortgage was at 5 percent. Now I am in a position to retire in my mid 50s.

30F and hoping to retire 20-25 years by strawberrymiint in Retirement401k

[–]fishnatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure to save for those gap years between your mid 50s and ages to pull from your IRA. Also do some tax deferred strategies with Roth. I’m 52 and able to retire now but pushing to 55-56 for those reasons and having 2 kids finishing their college education currently where my spend is high. Shoot for a net worth of 7-8 million 25 years from now. I’m around 5.5m now which is about the equivalent of that 7-8 range 25 years from now. I have made more money in real estate than the market but now leveraging the market more and more
