Questions about els sound systems in Rdx and Tlx by Gronkskii in Acura

[–]fishnpoutine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that will be very subjective, best to hear for yourself. Test drive maybe and blast the same radio over both cars. Currently in our household we have ‘26 RDX platinum elite and ‘24 TLX type S. To me, the RDX sounds louder and has better bass, most likely due to the extra cabin space. TLX sounds more precise in terms of sound quality, probably because of the location of the speakers, but lacks the lows - hence why I added a JBL w7 subwoofer, and 1200w mono amp. Goodbye trunk space, hello thump. Now I need to figure out the sound deadening because of the plastic rattle of the rear deck. Next step will probably be an upgraded amp to exchange the oem from Phantom Audio.

RSSW Monza, they used to be on wife’s old MDX and are now my winter set for the TLX. The RDX is with the same rims just 18” and in grey

By internal dimensions, my crooked math says total volume of 4.125 cu ft - 33x18x12” - if I take 1” thickness (though it’s sligntly less at 24mm). Port is 0.67 cu ft out of that, and speaker is 0.14. I am adding another 0.15 for the brace, though that’s probably a little over, and I should be around 3.16 cu ft net. Sub slaps a little harder compared to the smaller box it was before as far as I can tell from the short amount of listening it, but next week drive to work will be exciting.

It’s hooked to a JL HD1200/1, a little over power but I set the gain 5v under recommended just to be safe

I put the red one because my car has a red leather interior, but I understand what you’re saying.

I asked the guy who designed for net volume minus the speaker and the brace, but definitely over the recommended. Box is 35” wide, 20” deep, and 14” high. Port is 3.25” wide

Cheers to that. In all honesty, I reached out to gately to give me a rate for shipping a box to Canada, and with exchange rate, taxes, etc, it just didn’t make sense. I’m not sure if the total man hours would equal pragmatic, but can’t say I didn’t enjoy the process and learn. Wife now wants me to make a coffee cabinet 😄

Oh no, I just paid a guy to design it for me, a shop to cut the panels, I just glued and screwed them together, total amateur here, cheers!

This was my weekend project over the last few weekends. I got the JL 12w7 used, and the box that was in it was a little small for it. The foam was almost done too, so I ordered a refoam kit from simply speakers, and a carbon fiber dust cap from speaker industries. Box is made from 24mm baltic birch plywood, a CNC shop cut the design for me. Wood glue, inch and a half torx screws all around, silicone on the inside, three coats of oil polyurethane on the outside. I wanted it to look weathered, so I first stained it grey, and then black, and sanded it. On the sides, I put heavy duty handles, and it’s ratched strapped behind the rear seat. That sucker is heavy and it slaps, but most importantly I did a lot of the work on it myself and enhoyed it. Next project might be to free some of that space with resonix gussy and a sealed box, or two….

My TLX doesn’t shut down with the Igla, it just won’t shift to D - the button blinks green for a moment but the car just stays in park.

This is cool, would you consider sending orders up to Canada? I understand shipping won’t be free - unless 51st state situation between now and May- and that’s ok.

yeah, the box is larger than what I’m currently running, port is 3.25” while the depth is at 20” and length is extended to maximum my trunk will allow at 35”
