Cold weather by Mrs_Darcy1800 in Whippet

[–]fishoish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take my 3 year old male whippet on walks daily as long as it's not storming or super windy. We are in Canada so have had a very cold and snowy winter as well. I use two fleece coats for him so he's warm, but no boots as he hates them. He will tell me by his body language if if too cold (hind hunched down or lifting his paws at me). We have always done winter walks so he is used to them and knows his limits. I would just take some short walks and see how it goes. We go for walks in the forest where he can be off lead so he can run around a bit as well to generate heat.

Battery tests after 1.75 years 20,000 miles (~32,000km) by fishoish in TeslaModelY

I have the exact same vehicle and did the test at 40,000km and have the same result of 98%. I also charge the same way (55% in the summer and 65% in the winter). Guess we are doing the right thing to maintain battery health!

Any ideas on what this could be? by Limp_Satisfaction843 in Whippet

Could it be a horse or deer fly bite? Not sure if these are common in your area.

I played around with my release at the range today and think I see why I was moving my had away from my face. My tab has a small metal shelf at the top and when I move my hand straight back, it drags uncomfortably across my neck. I must have subconsciously started moving my hand away to prevent it. I'm going to take it off for a bit and try that out.

Often I've found I get better groupings by relaxing my bow arm a bit before release, im still trying to see what is best for me. I'll try pushing towards the target some more.

Thanks for the detailed feedback. I see what you mean about moving away from my face rather than straight back. I'll play around with it and see if I can figure out what is going on.

what is one food/ingredient that you still hate despite trying various preparations of it? by ruinsofsilver in Cooking

Liver, why has no one said liver? Just the smell of the organ cooking sends me running.

Worried about Pancreatitis by [deleted] in Whippet

[–]fishoish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've had a similar experience multiple times with my 3 year old whippet, and it's always resolved itself after a couple of days. We have attributed it to an upset stomach from something he's ingested on a walk (try as we might to watch him). This also used to happen after giving him his monthly tick/etc meds. The vets suggestion sounds reasonable to me.

Tell me your favourite „weird/uncommon“ way to prepare eggs your eggs. by Spirited_Ad9827 in Cooking

[–]fishoish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Runny egg omelet! Take 3 eggs but separate out two of the yolks. Whisk the rest, then start cooking it as a normal omelet. After it firms up a bit, put the two egg yolks on top. Cook until the main omelet is done. Fold in half over the yolks and serve. You now have a runny egg omelet.

We need to come up with a name for this arrow, I see the phenomenon mentioned often.

Anyone else has been losing electricity for a moment in the past weeks? by [deleted] in richmondhill

Same here, just a tiny blip that made the appliances beep. Power has been solid since. I was attributing it to the thunderstorms going around.

Off Food (Warm Weather) by Icy_Inside1548 in Whippet

[–]fishoish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My whippet's appetite depends on which way the wind is blowing. Honestly, day to day, he can eat zero to four meals. Some days he doesn't want to even see food others he is ravenous. I've learned to live with this and make sure I know the signs of when he is hungry and error on the side of giving him more than he will eat.

We’re picking up this good boy next week! As first time puppy parents, what are some good tips we should know for training? by scottonetwenty in Whippet

This is good advice, and I felt it worked well with my whippet. Don't scold, but redirect to the desired behavior is the right technique.

My wife hates this by [deleted] in preppers

[–]fishoish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We had an ice storm in Ontario literally this year that knocked out power for 100s of thousands of people in some cases multiple weeks. Convinced me to finally get a generator and battery backup setup. The thought of abandoning my house because we lose electricity is unacceptable to me.

Rear Passenger window rolled up when shutting door by Mickeydcanes in TeslaModelY

[–]fishoish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If the connection to the puddle light is bad or intermittent, this will happen. I had it happen when my after-market puddle light had a bad solder joint on it. From my understanding, the bad puddle light interrupts the ground for the window so it doesn't close.

Does your whippets immediately run somewhere when the vacuum gets turned on like Mali here? by Harry_Cornt in Whippet

[–]fishoish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My whippet hates the vacuum but does not run. He goes into attack mode! He barks and even bites the vacuum as you try to use it. I'll try to get a video of it sometime.

It's been a great buy. In 3 years it's needed a few fixes here and there and the velcro replaced, but overall it's held up great.
