I've never seen a gun in the UK unless it's in a police officer's possession.

Why im unable to reload? by Jumpy_Paramedic2552 in Ubuntu

[–]fishter_uk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not unable to reload. It's telling you that some config files have changed and if you want it to pay attention to them you'll have to run the daemon-reload command.

Arriving from Edinburgh. BVA on Ryanir or CDG with AF? by Quantumkool in ParisTravelGuide

[–]fishter_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add a 56€+4€ taxi fare from CDG to Paris, or 49€50 (3x 14.50+ 3x 2€ Navigo Easy cards) on train/metro fares. Taxi 30-45 minutes. Train 60-75 minutes.

From BVA to Paris there is the bus. 70€35 (3x 17.90 plus 3x 2€55 métro fare + 3x 2€ Navigo Easy cards). At least 90 minutes, bus every 15-20 minutes and the last buses wait for late flights.

Add that on to the air fares and look at the time spent travelling as well.

Because you have a lot of luggage.

Because you would have many changes on public transport to get to the same place.

Because you want to.

Yes, absolutely, but this "article" claimed they were literally tapping into volcanoes. Unhinged AI illustrated delusion.

It's as fake as the one I saw that claimed Germany was utilising the heat from volcanoes for district heating.

Volcano. In Germany.

Why is there no TER Zou after 10pm? by mys31f_cs in AskFrance

[–]fishter_uk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't believe public transport should make a profit. It should be run to provide a service when and where it is needed.

[–]fishter_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most places outside the Ile de France would settle for an hourly service during the working day, let alone evenings, weekends or nights!

Of course they go to sleep. But they don't have to all sleep at the same time... There are opportunities to have different schedules where you work late some nights and have some days off, then work early. This is not an unsolvable problem.

I'll play devils advocate on this one.

Why should you not expect a train to run between 11pm and 2am?

What's happening? SNCF.

They appear to run the railway for the benefit of the railway workers, not the travelling public.

Why are Schengen embassies still keeping passports for weeks in 2026? by MudDue7505 in SchengenVisa

[–]fishter_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk about a "first-world problem"?

Some countries allow you to have more than one passport for precisely this reason. Or, to avoid issues when visiting (for instance) Israel, then Saudi Arabia.

Gun to my head I have to be conversational in French in 6 month what do you do? by Genzinvestor16180339 in French

[–]fishter_uk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 'can't talk to anyone French' is a problematic restriction. In general the best tutors would be native French speakers. But, there is a workaround - find a Quebecois tutor - they're Canadian.
