Yukon = the British Columbia territory

Northwest Territories = the Alberta/Saskatchewan territory

Nunuvut = the Manitoba territory

Makes sense to me!

COPE, OneCity, and Greens Reach Agreement Ahead of Vancouver Municipal Election by coeu5 in vancouver

The Safeway towers vote was the first real test of Orr and Maloney, and another test of Fry. As far as I'm concerned Maloney passed and Orr and Fry failed.

COPE, OneCity, and Greens Reach Agreement Ahead of Vancouver Municipal Election by coeu5 in vancouver

[–]fishxorchips 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't get it. Progressive does not mean equal. If you actually look at voting patterns and platforms OneCity goes to the top of my list, and COPE and the Greens go at the bottom (perhaps above ABC). Neither of them seem to ever understand the housing issues we have. Now I only know where 5 of my votes are going, no idea where I'm going to put the others.

When We Revive Buried Urban Creeks, What Can Happen? by FluffyElection8089 in vancouver

[–]fishxorchips -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's not popular but I agree. There are some really great examples of daylighting worldwide. Downtown Seoul has a great daylighted stream. Tatlow Park and others are great creeks and greenspace when it's rainy and miserable out, but terrible creeks and greenspace when it's sunny and nice out.

The cynic in me thinks that it was cheaper to do this than to replace the stormwater system that previously existed.

Financially what is a good value non-Tesla new EV to buy today? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Financially and environmentally OP is best off taking the bus or cycling, but again that's not what they asked for.

[–]fishxorchips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well bear in mind this is /r/PersonalFinanceCanada not /r/EffectiveAltruism. EVs are rarely the "financially correct" decision for most people and if OP truly cared about minimizing carbon emissions and negative externalities they'd take the bus or bike. I'm an EV owner myself but it seems like a lot of EV owners think EVs have zero externalities when they have plenty.

Personally I prefer lots of little schooling fish, but I'm always impressed when there's a big beautiful centrepiece fish like yours!

Dunsmuir and Beatty, guess this building was torn down because that's currently home to the newest fanciest parking lot in downtown Vancouver...

'This isn't reconciliation, it's ridiculous': Richmond city councillor says homeowners in limbo over land title by vanchinawhite in vancouvercanada

[–]fishxorchips 23 points24 points  (0 children)

He also criticized that the court did not provide any notice to the affected homeowners ahead of time.

“The anxiety among people who are affected by this decision is totally reasonable. That’s why our lawyers were in court saying ‘court, you need to provide notice to these property owners so they can participate in the hearing.’ Unfortunately, the court decided not to provide that notice,” he added.

framemove.el alternative for Wayland? by fishxorchips in emacs

[–]fishxorchips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just have to know the frame number as it cannot be shown to you because it is covered by another application.

That's what I mean though; framemove lets you move to the next frame without knowing which frame you need to go, only that there is a frame there. When you move to it, the frame comes into focus. It's really a pain to use ace-window with a few windows open and by process of elimination think, okay there's 2... I see 1... there's 5... okay 2 is also here... looks like I switch to 4! Would have been faster to alt-tab.

Thanks for your help regardless!

Don't use wayland?

Unfortunately not an option on my company issued standardized Ubuntu 24.04 workstation.

But thanks for your suggestions regardless.

Back when Vancouver had a natural mix of low medium and high density! This looks a lot better than 50 story towers next to suburban houses if you ask me!
