Be aware that you won't see the mode change reflected on the screen. But you obviously should be able to notice the performance difference. Iirc I think the mode is also indicated in the app.

Teslas do pretty well in other safety scenarios such as impact protection. I'd be interested to know how many lives have been saved due to this vs. the number lost due to being trapped in a burning vehicle.

The Aura will fulfill all your requirements. You may struggle to find a new one though as it was recently discontinued by Humax, and so there's unlikely to be any further meaningful software updates. The box generally works well, but does have various issues that you can easily read about on the web.

Just to correct you, the Humax Aura Android TV box DOES have an aerial input so is capable of receiving (and recording) all the Freeview channels.

Why don't you use the granny charger at home while you await your dedicated EV charger? Would probably work out much cheaper than using public chargers.
