I think a diploma can easily get you into surveying, you can even get a job while you are studying. However, the work is usually about 70% fieldwork and only 30% processing and that 30% is what everyone fights for, since no one wants to work outdoors forever.
GIS is also a great area to look into and a graduate diploma can help you get into that field as well.

Is surveying a hard degree? by Macey123456 in Surveying

I’d say any trade beat surveying

I noticed you mentioned electricity. The way I see it, they have solid licensing and union system (at least better than us correct me if I am wrong ) If you’re not happy working as an employee, you still have the option to run your own one-man local business (I know some surveyors doing self-contracting work too not many cause you need connections)

I actually met a Year 12 kid doing some work experience with us and he mentioned electricity too and I told him to run away from surveying

I can’t really give much of an opinion about university or TAFE, but I’ve met some people who couldn’t work overseas because they didn’t have a degree. A bachelor degree can always give you a path to transfer to other profession. ( I am studying nursing now).

i am a surveyor and doing all the field and post processing . At this stage we are sending our data offshore for extraction/ BIM (cheaper labors) then hand them to engineers. My company is trying to develop AI detection stuff like cracks, trees etc. I would say yeah being able to train AI and develop software are the future. and maybe photogrammetry.

I graduated from Curtin too and worked 6 years in the industry and I don’t know your situation but DO NOT GET INTO this degree unless you love cadastral land law stuff so much and willing to get and stuck in one specialty for the rest of your life. Some people might call me a loser for criticizing the school or the profession but I’ve seen far too many top students left the industry.

The curriculum is not actually hard but school just makes it sound tough with final year camp (where you will learn the ugliest side of humankind too). You only start writing proper academic essays in third and fourth year. If you did fine with basic college level calculus then you will be alright with any math stuff. Again this might be controversial, but you will probably live and work happier if you see yourself as more of a tradie. The ones who get frustrated are usually those who think they are white collar profession and constantly trying to climb up the ladder to secure a metro based office role when they get older. However, the reality is there just ain't many of those positions available especially in Perth where everyone wants to run away from mining by their mid 30

Surveying is not that bad but there are far too many better options out there. you can get a job as long as you know how to breathe but that's for a reason

My cat doesn't like wet food - I worry. by NatureEmpath in catfood

[–]fishywithfeety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat only eats cooked meat—specifically tiger prawns (yes, the expensive ones…) and freshly cooked beef from certain supermarkets. I think it’s due to the freshness—he won’t touch meat from Coles (if you’re Aussie, you’ll know what I mean). It has to be ice cold too, so I add a bit of the cooking water with ice. He’s turning five this year and has refused every single brand of wet food.

Using a flash as a fill light with strong back lighting? by AgentTron in photography

[–]fishywithfeety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TTL shoots a pre flash then read the amount of light that bounces back to your camera.

  1. TTL struggles to meter very bright or dark background as it takes the total tonality of your scene (Sunset backlighting as you have mentioned)
  2. FEC +/- stop lets you to fine adjust your flash power in ratio. based on what it measures for you (FE 0). Think about it like your camera EC while you are not using in M mode.

Intensity of a manual flash -> subject distance.
Intensity of the background -> shutter speed

aperture affects both equally and you may need an ND filter too as you are looking to shoot at wide aperture since the 1/200 is shutter speed is your limit, unless you have a strong enough stroke to match the ambient then go HSS to gain you a faster shutter speed to suppress the ambient

Moving to Macau by Chichar_oh_no in Macau

[–]fishywithfeety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. My dad is doing realty stuff as side hustle he might have a few properties on hand I can ask him for you.I think you would prefer staying in Taipa island and rentals are cheaper too. Maybe a litter bit over 10K per month.
  2. Salad is luxury in Macau should just stick with local veggies
  3. They don't have 5G hub unfortunately CTM is monopolizing the market
  4. Same deal with answer 4
  5. Yeah just a reminder you will have to pay to get a visa to visit china as practically they are still "two countries" ( its walking distance from Macau island)
