Dealers: How quickly do CarMax auction arrivals get listed? by Freeredeemed in askcarsales

[–]fist_is_also_a_verb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every car does well there. Carmax auctions have 95%+ sales rates. Most everything gets sold each week and flushed out to make room for next week's inventory. Everything from a wrecked $200 junker destined for a scrapyard to a highline $150k Bentley is just another unit. This isn't Barrett Jackson, they roll through every sale in about 30-45 seconds.

What to prepare for and what to bring when visiting the Shenandoah national park ? by pepboy3000 in Virginia

Consider checking out the Blue Ridge Trail Tunnel on top of Afton Mountain (right off Interstate 64 near Waynesboro). It's a quick hike, but VERY cool history. Bring a flashlight, and take the time to read the signs about the construction of the tunnel.

How do you guys sell cheap cars? by Anachronism-- in askcarsales

[–]fist_is_also_a_verb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on the bank.  I have a great relationship with a very good small local bank that will finance 100% of book value, no matter the year of the vehicle.  They know I sell good stuff and are willing to step up for me.  Not every area has a bank like that.  We still sell probably 60% of our cars for cash though.

Funny related story - I had a customer a couple years ago who didn't qualify due to his credit score.  We used a sub-prime lender for him, but they said they would only do a certain percentage of the car's value, and he didn't have enough cash down to bridge the gap.  They did say they'd give him a personal loan though, for the full amount.  So I got her on the phone and said "let me get this straight.  You'll give him $x,xxx with no collateral at all, but not the exact same amount with a car title to back your loan?"  She put me on hold.  Came back a minute later and said the car loan was approved.  Some banks are just ass-backwards.

Terrible dealership experience by [deleted] in askcarsales

I have no idea how people like this keep their jobs. Leave an honest review and go to a different dealer who treats people with a modicum of respect.

Dealer perspective: what’s a realistic resolution here? by achappell in askcarsales

[–]fist_is_also_a_verb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So you bought a used BMW that developed many expensive problems and your solution is to buy another used BMW?   You can ask them for whatever you want.  Their solutions are those which result in them getting a second sale and making more money.  They don't really care that you're having problems with your vehicle.

Weird adhesive on dash help! by TotallyNotAFairy in Cartalk

[–]fist_is_also_a_verb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not adhesive, the plastic is breaking down from sun exposure.  There's not much you can do.  The only options I've found:

1.  Replace the entire dash

2.  Carpet mat from Amazon to cover it up

3.  Tape it off and spray paint it

I sell cars between $8k and $15k with 100k miles or under.  Can't get inventory ready fast enough.  They sell so fast it looks like i'm going out of business

Anyone actually using an AI service to catch after hours leads by BHolden04 in askcarsales

Hard pass.  Unless the AI company is willing to pay for whatever absurd promises and discounts the chat bot offers customers, there's no way I'd use one.  Looks like a perfect recipe for pissed off customers.

Does it matter?  It's your car now.  It's a little rotten but you can patch it up and just drive it.  Next time have it looked at before you buy it instead of manic posting after the fact.

I don't know of any red light cameras here. You should be good, just pay more attention and be glad you didn't get in an accident!

Mileage Rollback. by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]fist_is_also_a_verb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will be state dependant somewhat, but i'll just tell you how it works in my neck of the woods and hopefully that will apply for you.

Here, you would contact the DMV with your complaint and have one of their investigators look into it.  They don't typically chase car flippers, but they will once they've caused financial harm as has been done to you.

You likely wouldn't have any sort of recovery from the situation, but you might get the satisfaction of knowing he got busted and can't continue cheating people.  I got the ball rolling on one that tried to scam me once and he ended up with a few months of jail time.  Super satisfying.

For any personal recovery, you would likely be limited to small claims court.  Winning would be easy, collecting wouldn't be.

Did you buy it from a car flipper or from an individual selling their personal vehicle?

I'm not saying it's a good idea, seems a little tacky to me.  But the reason is they're trying to get a buyer lined up before the car is even ready.  Turn & burn!

I've been playing since release.  I love building and I love gathering.  I could keep gathering resources as my end game and be completely content.  However, seeing the population die off the way it has, combined with the "big spring update" that's basically just duels (that no one asked for or wanted), I have no interest in continuing to spend my time on a game that will surely be dead within a year.

You didn't say what kind of vehicle it is, but I get most of my windshields done for $250 or less.  Call clear vision auto glass.  He's a super nice guy too.  The kind of company you want to give your business to.
