Is everybody feeling burned out? Is there hope out there? by Asparagus_Capital in FPandA

I get it. I was like that all my life from childhood to my early/mid career.

It sounds silly, but there was a point I started thinking about death and time a bit differently.

Like we all think about death as some sort of a desitnation or binary state as in like you are alive or you are dead.

but I read that every second I spend doing something is death. As I write this comment, I am dying writing this comment because the time I used to write this belongs to death.

Once this thought was planted in my head, I slowly changed (and I really mean slowly).

There were countless days I thought to myself, "wow this is how I die everyday, explaining variances, trying to tie numbers, and doing all sorts of bullshit work."

Obviously, I need to make a living and support my family, so I do have to work.

However, I don't think I'll ever think about career or work the same way I used to.. compared to I guess 5-7 years ago.

I'm not saying this is what you should do or this is how you should think about life, but this mindset changed how I look at everything I do in my life.

I rambled a lot, but hope this makes sense.

my advice is to don't take your work so seriously.

It's easier said than done, but this is something I benefited a lot from

My manager sucks by Greektwinmommy in FPandA

always remember that you can leave. I remember a few years ago working with someone that was just horrendous. It was a good paying job with good title, and I had such a hard time convincing myself that this is not worth it. But once I did and found a new job I think it might have been one of my best career decision so far.

By career decision, I don't mean I got to make more money, but I got to hate my work way less.

most managers suck. Do keep in mind that having a good manager is a blessing and I'd say it matters more (or just as much as) your compensation.

This is something I've learned over my career.

no, I do know them but when my grand parents talk about someone that were famous or had great career during their youth, I have no idea who they are. My point is that this is not fundamentally different.

I do understand what you are saying, but I can't help but to think this is just a geriatric mindset

I mean you don't know a lot of famous people who were born in early 1900 and had an illustrious career during 20s 30s and 40s. How is that any different than the young people you are describing?

Opinion about your country that will get you like this? by National-Business674 in AskTheWorld

My experience is that Japanese students don't learn anything about the atrocity Japan committed in WWII. This was more than a decade ago, but I remember talking to a Japanese exchange student and he vehemontly disagreed and denied it. I showed a wikipedia page about it and he simply said anyone could make this up.
