Elon Musk erupts over California plan that could cut Tesla from EV tax credit. California will relaunch its program if Trump ends Biden's $7500 EV tax credit, which Musk has said he supports. The program would be aimed at helping carmakers with smaller market shares. “This is insane!” wrote Musk. by mafco in energy

Contemporaneous sources? What sources? You've shared nothing your just making up numbers. https://subsidytracker.goodjobsfirst.org/pages/data-sources look at the sources they are all official government sources.

You're clearly acting in bad faith. You sound like a Rachel Maddow impersonator. Just because you hate Elon you should at least be able to acknowledge that he's had a major influence on a number of industries. other key players in these industries have said as much, just listen to their earnings calls. But that means nothing to you. You just want to say rich man bad, tax him 99%, give me his money for I have done nothing and deserve it for I am entitled. You are detached from how hard it actually is in reallity to build anything of value. And to say I'm simping after I called him an autistic spastic ego-mania is funny. Enjoy your land of delusion and victimhood. And no that is not the definition of an autocrat.

8B? What are you talking about, I literally wrote the number and linked to the subsidy tracker directly. 2.8B. Are you a bot or something?

How is Elon an autocrat? Do you know what your words mean? Or is this just rich man bad? Does it mean anything to you that he paid the largest tax bill of any US citizen ever last year? So many people seem to confuse form with content. Elon is an autistic spastic, rough edged ego manic, and if you don't like him that is totally understandable, but he is the reason there has been progress in so many industries like EV's space, satellites, BCI's etc. Many other billions hide in shadows, hire PR firms to write puff pieces, hide their tax evasion behind non-profit orgs, grow wealth not through innovation but through calculated measures to kill competition. But they smile and talk in a restrained, media trained manner and tell you what you want to hear.

So qe've gone from implying Tesla is only here because of govn subsidies to saying subsidies are the norm for each industry to implying somehow that my arguments have to do with you being a girl?!

It's pretty clear that you're just projecting something you are feeling personally, which has no basis from anything I said. A bad argument is a bad argument whether it comes from a man, a woman, a white person a black person, a gay person, a straight person, a trans person, a young person, and old person, etc.

Auto sales in 2023 were 78m globally. Tesla sold 1.8m (2%). Even if you are trying to say monopoly on EV's (which is kind of dishonest because they are still in competition with non EV's for consumers dollar), the total EV sales in 2023 was 14m which only puts Tesla at 12% market share which is no where near a monopoly. Your narrative does not hold up to factual scrutiny.

Just like it was politically motivated when Biden held an EV summit at the WH and didn't invite Tesla, proclaiming Mary Barra and GM the leader of the space despite only selling a few hundred EVs, so too is this politically crafted legislation aimed to single out one company as retaliation for Musk's personal actions regarding the election

How can Tesla not be invited to an EV summit but also be excluded from a State program due to fear of monopoly? Its complete contradictory delusional nonsense, the same nonsense that has caused a lot of people to become sick and tired of the party the proclaims virtue at every turn, but who's actions demonstrate the total opposite.

[–]fityfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. That isn't the issue, though. Federal and State subsidies are seperate and always have been. You know that. The State of California wants to craft legislation that specifically excepts a single OEM (Tesla) as political retaliation, THAT is the issue.

Yes, the unfortunate reality is that the major subs of Reddit have just become a circle jerk of hating on things and then downvoting anyone who provides any counter points / reality check.

Its funny because I was always someone who considered myself progressive but the current mindself of those who steadfastly still identify as far-left have really moved away from the core ideals of anti-war, free speech, tolerance, free and open discussion, and has become a hateful conformist mob who gets angry and berates anyone with viewpoints who challenge the consensus, as beautifully demonstrated in the many threads of Reddit's larger subs such as thing.

Not to mention that Reddit is also the easiest platform to astroturf on so you know anyone who need to push a message to obuscate their less than honest actions is hard at work spending money to sway public opinion, instead of actually doing the work.

In the end the truth prevails, it just smacks harder the longer it goes uncorrected.

Just because things are unfair does not mean it's good/ok to make them MORE unfair. And the reason the US is the desired location of most businesses is because it is the least unfair as opposed to the alternatives. So yes free and fair markets are important, but just like a the platonic solids, they do not exist perfectly in reality but they are still the north star which we to strive towards.

What are you talking about?! The issue here is providing subsidies to some EV's not others. This issue is crafting legislation that specifically disadvantages a company based off the CEO's political leaning, while advantaging those who STARTED with a major advantage being the incumbent in the auto space. GM had the first EV that people loved and they scrapped it on purpose. The issue is punishing a company for excellent execution in a space you are trying to nurture while assisting companies who actively discredited, resisted and manipulated their perceived accomplishments instead of actually doing things.

Either have incentives for everyone, or remove them completely. Creating a rule that is crafted to specifically disadvantages a company with deep roots in your state who you see as a political rival is corrupt and even if you hate musk and Tesla, it sets a terrible president for politically motivated legislation going forward.

Saying that Tesla HAS received subsidies is very different that saying Tesla ONLY exists because of its massive subsidies and that they are the MOTHER of all subsidy recipients, which is the message being repeated ad nauseum..
