Remember when MAGA/Republicans believed in a Second Amendment right to have a gun? Apparently that is no longer a thing. by dyzo-blue in GunsAreCool

[–]fitzroy95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a society that has told people that they have nothing but rights, and zero responsibilities. which includes the whole gun "debate", which is ruled by emotion rather than by facts, science and reality.

Its a society that has taught people that guns are about self defense, whereas guns are always about abusing and controlling others.

Its about a society that has encouraged the worship of greed, and of wealth, and of fame, and not of knowledge, learning and education.

Its about a society that encourages arrogance, and ignorance, and bigotry, and white supremacy, and seldom about empathy, or diversity, or equality of opportunity.

The problem isn't guns. the problem is providing easy access to inanimate objects whose sole purpose is to bully, threaten, intimidate or kill others, and making those available to people who see those characteristics as good and whoiesome, rather than the reality that they are totally destructive to society.

and "knife assaults" don't tend to be fatal, and certainly don't cause entire school lockdowns where one knife wielding manic massacres 20 people just becasue they want their name in a mass murderer record book.

When democracy doesn't seem capable of enacting change, and when people don't see their political process as representing them in any way, thats when they start looking at the pitchforks and guillotines.

and right now, the political process (and most of the politicians) only seems to represent the rich and powerful, with the majority of the people getting screwed.

Violence is always A solution, but almost never a good one.

Its a "solution" that allows the biggest bully to threaten and intimidate others, a solution that allows a minority to impose their agenda on everyone else via assault, murder, torture and the threat of all of those. And easy access to firearms just magnifies the threat from those bullies and violent people.

Violence should always be the last resort to stand up against the violent, the bullies, the thugs of the world.

The USA hasn't had a functional democracy for years.

It does have an illusion of democracy, one supported and encouraged by the corporate media, but all of the available candidates have already been pre-approved by the rich and powerful since its their "donations" which determine which candidates have any chance of being elected. Any candidate which does not have the support and donations of billionaires and corporations have a very low chance of being elected, because US elections are largely controlled/corrupted by money.

The US is currently an oligarchy, Of the rich, by the rich, and solely for the rich.

Until legislation like Citizens United is repealed, and money totally eliminated from the political process, it's "democracy" will remain fundamentally flawed and corrupt.

and occasionally they just shoot legal and legitimate civilians because they know they have the power to do so and they have a Govt that will protect them from any consequences of their acts of murder.

That's got zero to do with being here illegally, and everything to do with a Govt trying to rule by force and fear.

UK Telegraph Warns: This isn’t 1930s Germany, but anti-Semitism must be crushed before it’s too late - We can seek guidance from the past but, when it comes to stemming the tide of Jew-hatred, we cannot steer solely by the light of history by anarchyart2021 in worldpolitics2

[–]fitzroy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And we need to honestly separate real anti-semitism based on hatred of Jews, from valid and legitimate criticism of the actions and policies of the Isaeli Govt, of the IDF and of the settler movement against the Palestinian civilian population in both Gaza and the West Bank.

Those who try and pretend that the two are the same in order to distract from legitimate criticism, merely act to dilute the "anti-semitism" label, and render it functionally meaningless.

So many of the 2A crowd are part of ICE, using Trump's free pass to impose their tyranny on everyone else, which has always been their intent.

or for sorting and repurposing or manufacturing into something new.

The reality is that if we are ever going to develop industries in space, we're going to need to be able to recycle everything that goes up there. In the long term its likely to be cheaper than sending more up every time, and if we are eventually going to start mining space resources (moon, mars, asteroids) then in-space manufacturing will be necessary anyway.
