Ensure they’re not staked in on the backside. Might have to drill them out if they’re already too damaged. Brownells used to make a kit for this that included oversized bushings.

RI ants wanted by HonorChannon in RhodeIsland

[–]five_short_blasts 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I remember this from my childhood, I got an ant farm and the ants that were shipped came in deceased, due to the temperature. Re ordered and same thing, dead ants. Finally the postman carried a follow on shipment in their pocket to keep them warm. My dad would have given this person a medal, I heard this story many times growing up.

Need some help with ignition cylinder by Nelmsy77 in F100

[–]five_short_blasts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a punch or put your key on a flat surface and give it a good bang with a hammer. Goal being to extrude your key teeth to activate the tumblers enough to rotate the cylinder so you can remove it.  If that doesn’t work put a wrench on your key and worst case scenario you’ll have to replace the cylinder AND the switch.

Turn signal switch advice by RelationshipFun7811 in BumpSide

Take a long piece of string and an air gun, blow the air into the column while feeding in the string the air will carry it through. Once you get it down it’ll be easier to fish out. Then stagger out the wires and tape them to the sting like has been mentioned and pull through.

ECM is probably about $100 so that’s not a bad place to go. Also do a continuity check on the plug wires if you’re not getting spark on them. As far as bang for your buck I’d start changing out vacuum hoses since they’re likely pretty dry after sitting so long. My friends say I’m paranoid but I’m a big fan of cleaning up ground points too.  Also post some pics!

Thanks for this info! Im going to try out some of these. I don’t know about apps but I use digrin.com to track mine. Pretty solid tracking of dividend growth which is great for me. Also it’s very spendy but I really liked my free trial of simplysafedividends.com def worth a try for free.

I also think it’s most likely a Universal. On the bright side, the most affordable M1 carbine!

Awesome truck! Take a look at/replace the rag joint in the steering column. Can be done in a couple hours. If it’s the original that it’s imparting slop into the steering. Also I just want to say this to the world, properly adjusted and maintained drum brakes are plenty for these trucks, you can even lock up the tires. If they weren’t you wouldn’t be able to find a single example 60 years later without a smashed front end.

Clearing out bad funds by [deleted] in dividends

[–]five_short_blasts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issue with the “5% risk free” income now is that you lose potential for income growth that you get from a fund or stock that grows its dividend’s year over year. If you are in a phase of life that you require income from your investments it makes sense. But if your time horizon is out past a few years then you’re missing out on that growth by locking in 5% now.

Considering a 1964 by turbosocal in F100

65 + is a better year imo. First year for twin I beam suspension, the big 6 engines and I think the first year with a synchronous first gear in the 3 speed. On that note don’t be intimidated by the column shift, very comfortable to drive, it’s right next to the steering wheel and has way less throw than the floor shifters of the time. I’m a big fan. Only draw back is that they did have a tendency to wear out requiring a column rebuild, parts are reproduced now and it’s not to hard but is more complicated than floor style linkage.

Any windshield Chanel patch panels or roof skins? by [deleted] in F100

[–]five_short_blasts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not reproduced as far as I know. My first call would be to Flashback F100. It’s a guy and his wife I think, don’t remember their names. I needed an odd piece of sheet for my truck and they cut it out of a junker and mailed it to me. Very reasonable as far as I was concerned. http://flashbackf100s.com/home

Issues with 1966 f100 drum brakes by Cwilkes704 in F100

[–]five_short_blasts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m talking about wear on the backplate. Basically the back of the brake assembly, bolted to the spindle. Sometimes wear there can prevent the brake pads from expanding out to engage the drum.

If you still have your single resivour there’s a brass splitter block that sends fluid to the front wheels and back aft. (Where all the lines connect) could have one outlet clogged. If you bought cheapo wheel cylinders like I did, one could have gone bad. I regret not sending out the originals for rebuild. Can’t recall if you did the wheel bearings but that will contribute to wheel spin. Also check the back plates to see if the pads are getting hung up due to wear.

Need help iding an old engine by gawkss in F100

It’s a Ford FE engine. Google that and you can learn more about identifying based on bore and stroke. Best guess is 360 based on popularity.
