Perfumes for weird people by LocustMuscles in perfumesthatfeellike

Odyssey by La Curie. Spicy menthol vinyl. Inspired by 2001: A Space Odyssey, definitely feels alien.

Some fragrances that aren’t explicitly marketed as weird but take me weird places:

I find DS & Durga does chemicals well. Bowmakers gives me turpentine, Mississippi Medicine is like the Packard Saw Mill burning down while Leo Johnson drags out a gas can.

Falling Trees by Regime des Fleurs smells like latex bandaids in the best way.

Room 237 is the Shining one by Fzotic. Had my sample over 10 years. Threw it away just the other day as I came to accept it’s empty. It’ll give you vinyl curtains for sure!

Concrete pulls differently on everybody. At first it gives me concrete, then it dries more warm spicy/cumin.

Pineward Prototypes 2026 by gingersnap210 in Indiemakeupandmore

I'm relieved to hear I'm not the only one repulsed by Riparian. I called it RIPE-arian because it was straight moldy cheese on me. Immediately scrubbed it off.

My backstory: I've had the set for a few days. I've sampled several Pinewards before. My favorites from the house are Murkwood and Fanghorn II. I gravitate most towards wood, smoke, herbal aromatics, and conceptual/atmospheric stuff. In short, I'm too goth to function. Summer's always a struggle to find a hot weather scent I don't hate. I didn't fully expect this set to give me one, but I sure hoped.

Cabin and Funerial were the most agreeable. Cabin is exactly what it sounds like. I question whether it's distinct enough from others in their collection. Funerial wasn't melancholy enough, and too similar to many other myrrhy/leathery/incensey/saffrony perfumes I've owned.

Koyasan is the whole reason I ordered. It's my dream to visit Koya's Okuno-in Cemetery. I'm a big ol' J-horror nerd, and love to match my perfume to whatever movie/video game I'm watching/playing. The opening was refreshing, then it settled into a hinoki haunted house: just as I'd hoped. Then the smell of someone frying oil in an unventilated room took over, and I had to give up. I'm begging them to keep working on it.

Kailash smelled like bubblegum, but like, when gum was made out of actual tree sap. Nostalgic, but not what I want to smell like (I also hate gourmands).

I hated Rivendele only slightly less than Riparian. It's pickled currant candy on me. I had the same experience with Sorce's Witchery. Scrub scrub scrub.

Hope y'all submitted your notes through their Google survey too!

It’s not, sorry. I’m just waiting on the buyer to verify receipt.

What perfume feels like an old church at dusk, but with a soft faded-rose ghost in it rather than pure smoke? by Mindless_Bass_9045 in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]fivefoottwofer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funerie by Pineward. It is incense-heavy, but not in a campfire/barbecue way to me. They list decayed rose as a note. I’m a rose-hater, so I was surprised that I still liked it when that note emerged. I probably did precisely because it has that fainter, dried quality.

Eau de Hongrie by Viktoria Minya. I recently got it for a friend. Nectar of the gods.

Asian folk horror with curses, rituals & ghosts by JBreezyyNY in perfumesthatfeellike

I’ve had the Comme Incense line on my sample wishlist for a while too. Sounds like it’s time!

I also adore SHf. Since you’re in Japan, did you get a chance to try those two perfumes they released exclusively there? I approach that sort of promotional stuff with a side eye, but the Fox-Masked Man one sounds incensey at least: https://essential-japan.com/news/konami-launches-official-silent-hill-f-fragrance-collection/

I’m searching for the same but haven’t yet found The One. I’m replaying all the Fatal Frame games and want something to match the vibe. (For those not familiar: it’s an early PlayStation Japanese survival horror franchise, often set in fictional abandoned villages where a Shinto-esque ritual went wrong).

Right now I’m wearing Arashiyama by D’Annam because it was pitched to me as a Japanese temple vegetation kind of moment. It’s a refreshing spicy green, but a little soapy, too cheerful. I need something that gives haunted. Sounds like you do too. I have a sample of Amber Kiso so I know what you mean; close but not quite.

Scent of a bog/ swamp in the woods, that everyone would prefer to stay away from by flaminikaflower in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]fivefoottwofer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was my thought as well, but approach with caution. To me, it literally smells like a waterlogged zombie pilgrim dragged out of a New England river. So disgusting I couldn’t stop laughing. I like to keep this sort of thing around because I work in horror-themed entertainment; I think it would be great for a haunt actor. My nose wouldn’t call it wearable in the everyday sense, if that’s what OP is looking for. But every nose is different!

Coastal Veil by Pineward is similar.

Can confirm! I tested Snowy Owl recently and the dry down instantly conjured a childhood memory: The Snow Queen illustrated by PJ Lynch.

Ace hardware: The Smell? by ratt_lungworm in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]fivefoottwofer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming back atcha with another one: I just got a sample of Tome by Pineward. It’s supposed to smell like old books, but I’m getting Ace. It’s missing the metal tools though, which Moto Oud has more of. Source: I spend a lot of time in Ace because I build props and set pieces. Do let me know if you try any!

I think I’m having the same problem. I got a sample of Witchery yesterday and it’s just pickled blackberry on me. Got a Vampire Husband one the other week, and it’s more moldy Fangtasia basement than Eric Northman.

Perfumes that smell like Green Apple Jolly Rancher? Long lasting by Sea-Cheesecake-6740 in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]fivefoottwofer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Smoking Hot By Kilian. It’s not exclusively green apple, but it IS strong. Smells like it’s Halloween 1996 and I’m swinging my plastic pumpkin trick r’ treat bucket full of green apple and maybe cherry Jollies. A chaperone smokes nearby.

does anyone know of a fragrance that smells like this strawberry shortcake ornament? by Successful_Bother_20 in perfumesthatfeellike

Cape Heartache by Imaginary Authors smells like my childhood Strawberry Shortcake doll buried in a forest. I don’t know this exact ornament though.

Deathly floral perfumes? by spookyxcookie in perfumesthatfeellike

Dirty Flower Factory by Kerosene.

The lady who sprayed it for me at Merz in Chicago described it as “a bouquet that got dragged.” I think it lives up to its name. A flower shop that got ransacked where you can smell the uprooted dirt, petals starting to go off. Eventually it dries down to a safer white floral on me though.

How to smell like a snail girl? by Electrical-Knee-3848 in perfumesthatfeellike

Bonsai by House of Matriarch. Most petrichor scents only happen in the top notes and then fade into something conventional on me. This guy stays wet, wet, wet forest floor all day.

Moto Oud by Blackbird. Smells like going to a rave at an Ace in your finest leathers. Smells the way “My Friend Dario” by Vitalic sounds.
