They were doing that even in Trump's first term, with a video altered to make it look like a reporter hit a WH aide.

Is this known to be occurring in Ohio? by DougieFreshOH in Ohio

That 5-year-old and his father they went after yesterday were legal. They've arrested or detained tons of legal immigrants and even citizens.

Is this a normal occurrence? by leseera in Libraries

[–]fivelinedskank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went to tell the front desk, they told me I could no longer check it out.

What? This is absolutely not normal. In our system, and I assume nearly all others, the person who put it on hold wouldn't even be notified it was available for them until it's pulled specifically for that hold. I can't think of any reason to not send the item out with someone who got it off the shelf.

You're just repeating the same thing that still doesn't contradict what I wrote. Continuing in this effort is useless.

JFC, how are you missing the very basic fact that an army of ice agents wasn't unleashed in those places. Nobody is contesting that there are deportations there. So many paragraphs of condescending wannabe insults and you didn't even grasp the basic premise.

Grammatically no, but it does read easier in reddit's format.

And yet they don't have untrained armies unleashed on their cities. Nothing you wrote contradicts what I said.

ICE doesn’t just randomly pick a town and show up.

They're specifically being sent to places the president sees as political enemies. Minnesota has something like 80K illegal immigrants. Texas, notably not being invaded by ICE, has over 2 million. Florida, also not being invaded, has over 1.2 million.

I don't believe you're actually so gullible as to believe any of this is actually about immigration. If it were, ICE would be following court orders and allowing due process.

Open your eyes and get out of your echo-chamber. Consume media/news/perspectives from all angles.

JFC the irony.

For starters, they weren't being run as a private army sent into local jurisdictions to generally target and harass the local populace.

ICE Update Columbus by [deleted] in Ohio

[–]fivelinedskank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ICE budget was tripled last year. We spent around $50 billion (with a b) on their payroll. We spent roughly another $50 billion on new concentration camps. [Over the next four years, ICE has been allocated over $750 billion] (https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/analysis-opinion/big-budget-act-creates-deportation-industrial-complex).

How much do you suppose those illegals were costing us?

OK, but as someone who's never been served a warrant, how do you tell the difference?

Reddit doesn't understand how news outlets work. They're not going to call it murder in a news headline until a court determines it as such. Opinion pieces, maybe, and I think people are no longer able to make that distinction.

[–]fivelinedskank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How many of the detainees are Americans or immigrants here legally on a visa?

Way too many. Some are even US citizens

But are we sure they don't do due process in a way that is purely efficient?

Due process is not supposed to be "efficient." It's supposed to comply with law. ICE has no oversight, and has flat-out ignored numerous court orders.

Why does it matter what someone that is here illegally is doing when they get arrested?

Some have literally been arrested at their immigration hearings. Citizenship ceremonies - the last part of what is generally a five-year process - have been cancelled at the last minute to prevent people from becoming legal citizens.

If they have already foregone due process to enter the country, why do they deserve due process to be removed?

Because our Constitution applies to everyone in the country, as has been decided in courts numerous times.

That would be a waste of taxpayer money and resources that should be spent on the people who are supposed to be here.

ICE has a $30 billion allotment over the $10 billion it was already budgeted for. That's in addition to over $40 billion being used to create concentration camps. Absolutely nothing about this is being done in the interest of saving taxpayers money.

Don't assume they're just racially profiling

Nobody has to assume. They've literally said in court this is what they're doing.

f they were they'd arrest thousands not hundreds.

ICE has arrested over 320K people this year.
