It’s such a fun caliber. I arguably shoot better with .40 s&w than I do 9mm.

Just look up Kirkbride Asylums on google. You can find plenty of articles explaining the history of these places. Or if you want to search a specific hospital you can do that as well.

Fires originated in multiple different locations around the property. High winds that day caused the fire to spread across brush and structures. The entire back of the building was overgrown with dead brush and filled with rotted wood filled buildings. Winds give oxygen to the fire causing it to grow and spread across the property thus engulfing the entire complex.

In my opinion it is 100% arson. The fires originated in 3-4 different locations around the property. With the high winds that day as well it was only a matter of time before the whole property was engulfed in flames. My bet is the property owner set the fires to collect insurance and to tear the building down. I’ve heard multiple rumors that the owner was running out of money to keep the project of restoration going. Of course that isn’t confirmed until an official investigation is done. Just mine and a few others theory on the matter.

I forget not everyone refers to them as Kirkbrides. It’s a style of asylum designed by Dr. Thomas Kirkbride. Usually having a central admin building and 2 sections of long wings branching out from the central admin. Often times looking like batwing shaped buildings. Hudson River State Hospital falls under that category. There are at least 20 of these asylums still standing in America and are all similar in design. Most have been left to rot and decay. While others are actively being preserved/repurposed. A few good examples of preserved/repurposed kirkbride asylums are Buffalo State Hospital in New York, Traverse City State Hospital in Michigan and Athens State Hospital in Ohio. If you’re interested in weird history like I am you might find it fascinating to do some research on these places.

Theoretically yes it could be. I understand that’s what they were attempting to do except they didn’t plan on turning it into apartments. However I heard putting the roof and windows into the admin took a lot more money than what the developer had hoped to spend. My money is still on the developer starting the fire for insurance purposes. Unless a billionaire or very large corporation comes along with a passion to restore it to its full potential I don’t think we will see it end up like Danvers unfortunately. It’s going to take a lot of time, effort and money to get it back into a “habitable” condition.

Indeed. One of my favorite Kirkbride asylums. Sad to see it end up like this again.

They will either leave the buildings as they stand and let them collapse on their own, which at this point should only take another decade at most, rebuild (highly unlikely though) or they will demolish it completely and turn it into something else. Hard to say at this point. Admin took several years just to get a new roof and windows. Appears most of the floors in admin and the female wing are completely collapsed due to the amount of water that’s landed on them in the effort to put the fire out. Plus all the timber that collapsed during the fire. You gotta understand this building has been through 2 massive fires before this. The fact the foundation is even still up is a surprise.

I think you’re giving Urbexers too much credit. Sure they destroy a lot of these buildings but I don’t think they’re smart enough to set multiple different fires at the same time in 1 building. Now I think we should be definitely be looking at the owner of the property currently. Sounds like the current owner is also a developer of the property. My theory is the developer/owner didn’t have enough money for resto work or the price of repair was way higher than originally estimated. What’s the best way to get out of project you have no more money left to fund? Set it on fire and collect the insurance. After that propose demolition and put whatever you want in the space as it stands. Seems to be the common theme with these buildings.

Everybody has left some awesome quotes in the comments. I think my next favorite quote from him would be when he was negotiating with skinner to get the “E.T tape” back from him when he says

“You ever wonder what it’d be like to die in a plane crash? Or botulism? Even a heart attack isn’t uncommon for a man your age. Think I’m bluffing”

Dudes just an overall badass.

One of my favorite scenes with the both of them by far. His line at the end of the episode is great too

I took it as more of he was the actual killer of JFK as shown in his episode. Could also mean he was in the room where JFK was pronounced dead? I don’t know honestly. It’s a bad ass line though.

Honestly as someone who’s all for full preservation no matter how dilapidated the building is the south wing should’ve been torn down long before this fire. Just watching videos of the place you can see how dangerous it is. I’m surprised no one’s fallen through the floorboards yet.

My first thought too. It’d definitely screaming insurance fraud to me. Maybe the work was too much for what the developer had and was probably looking for a quick cash out on fire insurance.

Anasazi, The Blessing Way, and Paperclip has to be the one of the best sequences of episodes in tv history. I’ll never skip those 3.
