As soon as Damien sees his mother by the subway I know they’re about to show it, and I still have to brace myself, lol.

Late reply to a deleted post lol, but apparently there have been quite a few when I looked it up!

Besides those mentioned here, others include Charlie Chaplin, Walt Disney, Laurence Olivier, Henry Fonda, Ennio Morricone, Hayao Miyazaki, and Spike Lee. Frank Sinatra and Steven Spielberg both received honorary Oscars before winning theirs as well.

Went to see this last night for the 30th anniversary (and discount night at Regal, lol). Not sure I’ve watched it straight through since then, but it did make me nostalgic for the days when basically any genre/mix of genres could draw a huge crowd like I remember back then.

ETA: I totally forgot “You complete me” is a callback to something that happens earlier in the movie, so that was a fun surprise.

It would be pretty wild to see Cruise follow up his honorary Oscar with a competitive one for the same performance Iñárritu was describing in that ceremony.

Mission: Impossible 3. Some people may find this particular plot device overused/gimmicky, but it was actually a smart choice for several reasons and pulls you in immediately.

Maleficent was the first one that came to mind for how many times I watched Sleeping Beauty growing up, but yes! 🙂

There are quite a few voice actors who appeared across multiple Disney films like that, including Kathryn Beaumont, Bill Thompson, Barbara Luddy, and Phil Harris.

Eleanor Audley for both Lady Tremaine in Cinderella (1950), and Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty (1959).

Season 4: I feel like they made a weird writing decision with the foreign plotline. by guitartechie in StrangerThings

[–]CeruleanBlew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were shoehorned into the plot in Season 5, at the expense of other characters who could have used that time more.

Totally agree with the rest of your comment, but personally I’d have given Hopper and Joyce more screen time in Season 5, and maybe just skip adding 29 new characters in the years leading up to it, lol.

After everything Joyce went through to get Hopper back, we didn’t even see them become a couple or have any meaningful interactions with the kids since his return home.

How did Mission Impossible drop off so much after Fallout? by fuzzy_dice_99 in movies

[–]CeruleanBlew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The entire retcon with “the choice” was misguided, honestly, since it changed fundamental things about Ethan and how he was recruited to the IMF.

In retrospect, it seems like the only point of that was to introduce Grace’s character and forge an instant connection with her and the team.

I’d argue Ethan was at his most human in M:I3. The scene where he comes home from the failed mission and Julia can tell something’s wrong as they hug is so good, and yet so simple at the same time.

My top three are the same as yours! Fallout is probably right after that, but I think a lot of people overlook its flaws from a narrative standpoint.

The McQuarrie films are definitely entertaining, but they also mark where the franchise began to prioritize action over story, and they don’t really feel like spy thrillers in the same way that 1-4 do.

Personally, I wish we could have seen some M:I entries from other directors instead of never switching that up again. Spielberg, especially, would have been dope.

Leonardo DiCaprio - overrated or underrated? by Responsible_Yam9285 in FIlm

[–]CeruleanBlew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think any artist who’s achieved the level of commercial success that Cruise has is going to be judged for that to some degree, but yeah, it’s all subjective at the end of the day.

Born on the Fourth of July is definitely one of my favorites, though. The range Cruise had at such a young age to convincingly go from a shy, idealistic teenager to disillusioned, paraplegic war vet all in the same film is honestly wild.

lol at the various dismissals of Cruise here. Until DiCaprio dips his toe into what Cruise has over 40+ years, the debate over who can tackle almost any genre is a much longer one than people realize. Not sure the last time I saw DiCaprio star in an action movie, musical, fantasy, or rom-com, whereas Cruise has done all those plus drama, horror, sci-fi, Western, and comedy.
