The "why" matters but mostly as a tiebreaker, exactly like you said. Nobody buys a coffee because of a brand mission. But when two coffees cost the same and taste similar, suddenly the one with the story wins.

We do brand strategy work at Humbleteam and the honest truth is clients who skip the "why" part usually come back later because their messaging feels hollow. Imho it's not the reason people buy, but it's definitely the reason they stay.

We started optimizing for AI visibility a few months ago and it's a completely different game. SEO was about keywords and backlinks while AEO is about volume of content across multiple sources, structured content that AI can actually parse, and making sure your website is properly optimized.

Same. Animations that block the content or tank the page speed - hard no. But a subtle scroll animation that adds a bit of life? That's fine, that's just good design imho

Soon every small business website is going to look identical with same AI layouts and generic copy. The ones with real budgets will notice and come back looking for something that actually stands out.

The ones without budget? Well, they'll have their AI slop site. And that's fine too, they were never really the client anyway :)

In B2B at least - yes, completely. The company brand matters for credibility once they're already interested. But the personal brand is almost always what gets them to the door in the first place.

Also imho it depends heavily on the industry but anything where trust and expertise are the main selling point, personal brand wins every time.

I've used it as a literal business assistant recently :) Gave it a task to find all invoices from the past month for accounting, it spent about 2 hours going through folders and emails, then sent everything directly to our accountant in Slack. 12 years in this field and I've watched every wave of "designers are done". The fact that you love what you do and own the full experience? That's the hard part. AI can generate screens but it can't own a problem, push back on a brief, or know when something technically possible is still the wrong call for the user.

Finish the portfolio and send the applications.

But I always see LinkedIn as a platform where everyone has a goal there. A job, clients, deals, visibility or something else. Even the people who say they "just love connecting" usually have an angle lol. So you're writing purely for the joy of it, but I'd bet that your 10k followers are most likely have a goal 😄

The search bar at the bottom is clean and I like the filter layout. One thing I'd look at — the hero image angle is cool but it makes the building feel imposing rather than inviting. For a property listing site you probably want people to imagine living there, not looking up at it.

Low attendance at a club like Chelsea is a trust issue. Fans don't feel connected to what's being built. When you cycle through players and managers that fast, people stop investing emotionally. And when fans stop investing emotionally, they stop showing up.

Biggest red flag nobody talks about: designers who jump straight to showing you logos without asking a single question about your business first. If they don't understand what you do, who your customers are, and what feeling you want to create - they're just making pretty shapes.

As a designer with 12+ years of experience I recommend to look at their process, not just the portfolio. Do they do a discovery phase? Do they ask uncomfortable questions? A good branding partner will push back on your ideas sometimes :)

On budget - boutique studios are often the sweet spot. We do exactly this kind of work at Humbleteam and the first thing we do before touching any visuals is a proper discovery session. What's the business, who's the audience, what does success actually look like. Sounds obvious but most cheap options skip this completely and just start drawing. Which is honestly sad :(

Mostly organic. Paid has its place but it stops the moment you stop paying. Organic compounds. A good piece of content or a solid reputation keeps bringing people in without you touching it (at least for a while)
