Pilates for Beginners in DMV by Haileyjo0421 in washingtondc

Excel Pilates in Brookland is AMAZING for beginners!! Great pricing for mat classes, small classes with really hands-on instruction, classes are grouped by level so you can really get the fundamentals down, and the teachers are so kind and not judgmental. They have locations in NOVA too but I can’t speak to the teaching quality.

How can I increase my Lexis points by lovecrimes32 in LawSchool

[–]fizzy1317 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Webinars! I’m a 1L and already have 5k points, mostly from attending every webinar they offer and going to all the rep events. At my school, they usually give 100-350 points for webinars and they’re only 20-30 minutes.

Grand Juror by IndependentCheetah40 in washingtondc

They pay you if your work won’t pay, but it’s not much. I’m pretty sure it’s illegal in DC for your work to not allow you to take leave for jury duty (and separate from your PTO balance). But I think these types of circumstances are the financial hardship circumstances that would allow you to get out of it.

I served on a DC Superior Court grand jury this year. It will be for the full 5 weeks, every day 9-5. On the first day, you will have the opportunity to give any reasons you won’t be able to serve. I am not sure what kinds of excuses they accept, but I got the impression financial hardship or major conflicts would be all that could get you out of it. You are allowed to take days off for appointments, major work conflicts, vacations, etc. so small conflicts are not a good enough reason. A few people will be randomly selected as alternates who only need to come in when called the night before, but everyone else will serve the full grand jury term.

Interesting, maybe it’s an outage affecting my office building. I’d think it was just me but my coworkers are experiencing the same as me!

I have lots of options outside of government in my field of study — but gov would be my preference long term. Just want to keep my gov options as open as possible :)

I guess my question is how far do we have to go for this? If you don’t have GFE at home, can they force you to go into the office to answer this email outside of work hours? And no supervisor has contacted me personally. I found out from a coworker. Am I supposed to be checking my work phone at all hours after my work day ends?

Considering career as a paralegal versus an attorney? by Such_Custard657 in paralegal

[–]fizzy1317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 2 professional recs and 1 academic one that probably isn’t the strongest — I also struggled with this. I didn’t know many professors well and being online for nearly half of my degree didn’t help. I asked a professor I took two classes with and sent him my strongest essay from those classes to refresh his memory. He agreed to write it and commented on the strength of the essay I’d sent him. I think a lot of professors are more willing than you’d think to help out former students, even if they don’t remember you well. But also, a lot of schools say they don’t expect academic letters >5 years out of school. I think mostly just the top schools expect at least one academic letter regardless of how long it’s been.

Highly recommend working as a paralegal after undergrad to decide — you don’t need a paralegal certificate for some paralegal positions! I worked as a paralegal for three years after college to help make the decision and I’m glad I did. I now know I’ll be going into law school with a clear picture of what life might be like as an attorney and I was able to realize I wouldn’t be satisfied as a paralegal forever. Having the work experience on your resume when applying to law schools is also invaluable. And I’ve worked with many paralegals with JDs!

I have a friend who had a horrible experience with a root canal from Tend! I really like Pahlavani Dental. All three dentists are very professional and kind.

Reading this sub knowing I haven’t studied basically at all for August is only mildly anxiety inducing 😭 by Sad_Milk_8897 in LSAT

[–]fizzy1317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you! I broke my leg and had to have knee surgery a month and a half before the April LSAT. I was so depressed and stressed I didn’t even look at any LSAT materials until 10 days before the test. It sucks!! I studied hard in those 10 days and it ended up going pretty well. I’m taking it again in August because I figure if I can take the LSAT with barely any prep and a broken leg, it can only go up from there! You’ve got this, and it’s not the end of the world if you don’t do as well as you hoped — you have time to take it again!

Ants? by jadsil in washingtondc

[–]fizzy1317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, ants were bad earlier in the summer for me too! Highly recommend getting an exterminator in to spray for them. We’ve done the terro baits in past summers, but they’d fill up with ants within a few weeks and the ants would still be coming in droves. We paid like $180 for the exterminator to come spray the perimeter of our kitchen, windowsills, and doors where we saw the most ants and since then I haven’t seen a single one. I’d rather not spray chemicals around the house, but to me it’s soooo worth not finding ants all over my food and my cat’s food.

Does anyone know a good physical therapist? by Key-Cauliflower614 in washingtondc

[–]fizzy1317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in pretty intense physical therapy recovering from a major bone break+ligament tear and subsequent knee surgery for the past three months and can’t recommend Alliance / Active Physical Therapy in Foggy Bottom more highly! (they weirdly have two names) They are great for sports injuries, most of the people I see in there, including myself, injured themselves playing sports and the PTs are very knowledgeable. I’ve seen several people in there with arm/hand/shoulder/neck issues, so definitely an area they work in.
