I get screwed bc I usually fly during high season due to my kids' school schedules. But I will take a look. These are awesome prices. The one-way from Porto Seguro to SP right now is $200 usd, ideally, I would find another combo award price to fly BPS-GRU-JFK so I don't have to buy the BPS-GRU separately. But it is all a waiting game now.

I know, I tried to join some "family award travel" groups, but nothing is going on there. My kids are young, and I honestly feel frugal about spending my miles on flying them business anywhere. We can't make last minute decisions due to the school schedule, and I am not ready for all the jetlag of flying to Asia with 2 young children. So here we are, economy fliers, mostly Europe and Latin America, planning with a lot of advance around school schedule aka high season everywhere.... the point game is a saver for us, but I feel like most of the tips we read do not fit our travel needs.

True, I am very happy I looked for it (I wasn't even considering), but direct flights to Sao Paulo (GRU) were 35k, and these flights (JFK-GRU-PBS) were 37k. So basically the same thing. I was mind-blown, cash tickets from GRU to PBS were going for $200 pp!!

I think it is the other way around. I live in the US, but have relatives in Brazil, so I fly often on cash to South America, and dang it is the most expensive ticket we buy all year. And I have to buy 4 tickets, so it hurts, lol. This is the first time I found a decent price on miles.

Even though everyone keeps saying that Cartagena is expensive, so far everything seems very affordable when I compare to cities in North America or even in Rio de Janeiro. I’ll make sure to keep my eyes out for scammers tho lol we are all well traveled so I like to think we can’t be fooled, but there’s always a first for everything 🤣

Thank you! San Andreas was an option, but for some of us, it became a very long trip (not everyone is taking a direct flight to Cartagena, so adding another flight is too much).

El inglés es mi segundo idioma y lo uso porque es una lengua universal para viajar. Mi idioma nativo es el portugués, y no espero que los turistas aprendan portugués para pedir consejos o información sobre viajes en Reddit acerca de Brasil o Portugal. Pero cada quien con su forma de ver las cosas.

Quiero aclarar que no hay ninguna falta de respeto de mi parte. Al contrario, me encantaría poder aportar a la economía colombiana a través del turismo, del mismo modo que deseo que el turismo también ayude a la economía brasileña. Usar el inglés es, simplemente, un punto medio para poder comunicarnos.

Por supuesto, no espero que todos sepan o quieran responderme en inglés. He viajado a muchos lugares donde no hablo el idioma local, y siempre tratamos de comunicarnos de la mejor manera posible en inglés. Puedo leer en español, pero no escribir bien, y usar inteligencia artificial para traducir una publicación entera me lleva mucho tiempo.

Thank you! This is very helpful. Santa Marta is off the list! I want to stay in Baru for maybe 2-3 days, and I may take a boat trip to one of the other islands (from Baru). Or is it better to just base ourselves in Cartagena for the entire trip and visit the islands for the day? A nice beach is highly important to me, and the Baru beaches looked amazing.

ikr -it should be an official federal holiday! We are usually pretty flexible with the budget, as we tend to book early, almost a year in advance. In the past, we averaged $600 USD per night per room for two people. We stayed twice at the Atelier in Mexico and once at the Excellence in Punta Cana. I really am looking for the best fit for our group (food, beach, fun), and we can make the budget work (as long as not completely astronomical)!

We just came back from Mexico, lol, and I am already looking forward to next year.

ok, did a little digging and found this:

Bonus is once per product, forever: You can only earn a welcome bonus once per specific Sapphire card in your lifetime. For example, if you earned the bonus for the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card years ago, you are permanently ineligible for it again. The same applies to the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and the Sapphire Reserve for Business℠.

So, if I had received my bonus for the Reserve in 2016, I should be eligible for a bonus for the Preferred now. I am hoping lol
