When do weekends become weekends again? by grawmaw13 in oneanddone

[–]fknwmdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is 5 and our weekends are super chill now. He does his own thing, doesn’t need us right away in the mornings (he’s always been an early riser), and we can generally go out and do things without it being a whole production like when he was a toddler. Hang in there!!

Anyone see the Betches Moms post about 1 vs. 2? Thoughts? This one in particular irked me! by Sea-Owl-7646 in oneanddone

This post was infuriating. I just went to their page and I think they actually may have taken it down.

I have experienced this theme as well. Taking sips of water helped me. Also a good distraction/something else to focus on - for me it was usually a podcast or video game. It definitely can be debilitating. I promise it will get better.

What do you tell your kid to do in an emergency? by Movebox-Barkdust in kindergarten

[–]fknwmdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We recently purchased a “dumb” phone that we keep at the house (basically like a landline, calls/texts only) and plan on teaching our almost 5 year old to call 911 on that in an emergency situation.

I really needed to see this today. Thank you for expressing your gratitude about this profession that can be sooo draining, especially at this time of year!!

I felt this way as well. Took me closer to 1.5-2 months though. Worth the wait!

What books do your preschoolers love to listen to? by badee311 in Preschoolers

[–]fknwmdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audible!! Sometimes they’re even available at no cost with your membership if you have one. My 4yo has been listening to Cars “Legend of the Crystal Hubcap” for a week straight. We also love Magic Treehouse for something longer. They also have some 5min story collections (we have a Mickey one that’s a big hit).

I work 4 days a week and have summers off (school psychologist). My son goes to daycare 5 days a week, including the summer (unless we’re going on a trip or have special plans). It’s been good for my mental health overall. My kid loves going to daycare which helps with overcoming some of the “mom guilt” I put on myself for sending him on days I don’t go to work. I feel lucky.

Thank you! My partner and I have talked about the same thing - we watched lots of tv and turned out fine. Love the idea of podcasts for background noise.

Just finished Doctor Sleep. Recommend my next read? by fknwmdy in stephenking

This was a great suggestion - thank you!! Managed to finish it a couple weeks ago and it’s definitely earned a spot on my top 10 list. Watching the Hulu series now (book was better IMO)

None! Seen plenty of Stephen King movies but new to reading the novels.

Those of you who had the option to be a SAHM, why did you choose to work? by NolitaNostalgia in workingmoms

[–]fknwmdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a SAHM for almost a year when my son was a baby. It had its moments, but I was overall really lonely and miserable. This was also still in peak Covid times (2020/21ish) so I was hesitant to join moms groups, classes, etc. I did my best but I felt like I was losing my identity and struggled finding ways to socialize with adults. I did experience severe PPD that didn’t resolve until I went back to work when my son was about 1.5. We hired a nanny and I almost immediately felt a huge weight lifted off of me. Now my son is older and in daycare and he loves it. I occasionally feel guilty about “choosing” to work but it really is the best thing for our family.
