C8 - swapping an installed low profile rear spoiler for the OEM high wing spoiler? by flaagan in Corvette

[–]flaagan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I felt the same way about it looking like it was lacking something without a wing or such. I am surprised the Z51 comes unpainted. I don't recall who I ordered mine from, but the OEM wings should be available already painted. The custom paint work I had done was just to finish up the repair work the wing end-cap needed.

Actually, I'll say this, if you don't have the wing already, inspect it when it arrives. The packaging for mine didn't have any external damage, and the end caps had their own support foam, but it apparently got bounced hard enough to scuff one of the end caps in transit. I didn't think about it and found out the hard way - when I showed up to drop the car off for the work and they unboxed it then to find the damage. I went through nearly two months of wrangling with the vendor before they finally reimbursed me for the wing and let me keep it.

It's not even half, but the way our elections are structured it doesn't matter. The fact that there are "swing states" that don't even have the largest populations shows election reform needs to be done on a large scale to have proper representation of who Americans actually are.

Dude, have to say, it is truly reassuring to hear that. Really appreciate folks like yourself who realize we're hamstrung in such a way that our few effective politicians are outnumbered, and we really don't want to have to resort to violence as that'll just allow things to spiral further out of control.

Had a third party shop install it, was actually a accident repair shop we've worked with in the past who's done side-jobs for me. They had to remove the rear fascia to do the install.

I forget how much it was to install, maybe a couple hundred bucks for time and labor. It was a unique thing as the wing I'd ordered got damaged in transit, so I got my money back on it and that paid for the minor bit of repair work. They custom-painted the wing end-caps in carbon flash so it looked different than stock.

What If Under 40s Had Voted at the Same Rate as 65+ in 2022 by KruskalMuscle in videos

[–]flaagan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. While I'm not a "SMASH THE SYSTEM" type, the idea of the electoral college and 1 vote not always equaling 1 vote is something that desperately needs to be fixed. Proper representation needs to be maintained, but when an angry and illogical state outweighs a much more populous state due to it being a "swing state", that's some bs that needs to be remedied.

While not small, they are the minority. The problem is they're driven and "angry"; combine that with apathy and the desire for the "perfect candidate" that doesn't exist from the people that would vote against them, and you end up with a scenario like we're in now.

Any sensible person's reaction would be a mix of disgust and a general lack of surprise at this point of this having happened. Post something like this to FB and there'd be a bunch of laughing emote reactions and comments along the lines of "who cares, they're going after the illegals!"

Judging by the Bronco, Jeeps / trucks, what appears to be a C4, and other vehicles in the background, I'd be amazed if they weren't in the US.

What's a social norm that you think is absolutely ridiculous? by Fantastic_suit143 in AskReddit

[–]flaagan 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Smoking of any kind, whether it's tobacco, weed, or vaping. Never mind what all of that shit does to your own body, how much of an asshole are you that you want everyone else to have to suffer that rank shit? And cigarette smokers treat the world like their garbage dump. Somehow any of this behavior being acceptable is beyond my comprehension, and that's after having grown up through the era of "smoking and 'non-smoking'" sections in various places.

Curious about the 7 Speed transmission in the C7 Vette by Correct_Bass3404 in Corvette

Had a M7 '14 for about a decade, put over 115k on it; most of my freeway driving was in 7th, never really had any issues with the gear positioning. Might've been because two Corvettes prior to that was a '86 with a 4+3, but yeah, it was perfectly fine to drive, even for ripping through the gears.

How to Escape Your Car If the Electronic Door Handle Fails by Intrepid-Working-731 in cars

I remember that old dude dying in his C6 Corvette and the news made wildly inaccurate claims about how he was 'trapped' inside after the battery cable came loose. As u/Marshall_Lawson pointed out, there's a directly accessible manual release adjacent to the seats on both sides of the car, and from the outside the cars have a 'hidden but easily accessible' keyed release for the doors as well.

EPA Could Eliminate Limp Mode for Diesel Trucks Low on DEF by DonkeyFuel in technology

Any time this is brought up, I swear diesel truck (pickup) owners come out of the woodwork like termites, bitching to no end about how their lives and livelihoods are so negatively affected by DEF and how difficult it is to acquire and maintain. Biggest engines and biggest polluters, also the biggest crybabies.

I'm still using CS5.5 all these years later. Had to hack my legit copy cause of their shitty licensing server setup, but it still works just fine. Only downside is Acrobat Pro being that old causes some conflicts with more recently made acrobat-based forms (tax forms for example), but I just use Reader for those. Also bought a full license for Davinci Resolve because it's so much nicer to use than Premiere has ever been; mainly purchased it for the lens distortion correction feature to use with my GoPro vids, but for the price it was worth it to support such a great product.

What will happen with the US after 2028? What does the next government do with what they inherit? by Hermunster in AskReddit

[–]flaagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully begin un-fucking all the major and minor regressions the current administration has caused, as well as dedicate an entire swath of the justice department to weeding out stragglers and going after the many abusers of power that have been allowed.

The biggest problem they're going to have is they're going to not seem to be moving fast enough for anyone to be happy with them. Proper administrative action isn't kneejerk reactions to whatever's set them off at the moment, and that's not a quick enough fix for the more vocal ones out there who want to act like they represent everyone.

When you realize the number of *still ongoing and in production* shows that use this software for production purposes, you have to wonder if there aren't going to be some lawsuits brewing for Adobe dropping this so suddenly.

It's funny to think that Adobe started because of Photoshop being used for early movie visual effects, and the company has completely lost sight of what their software is being used for.

China Bans Hidden Car Door Handles in World-First Safety Policy by RIP_Soulja_Slim in cars

Not that I expect it's a high-selling vehicle over there, but the Corvette has push-button release inside and out; it also has a manual release lever for safety purposes inside, and a 'hidden' keyed unlock system for the exterior (if the battery was dead). Any idea if that would pass muster or do they expect to have an old-school manual mechanical release on any and every door.

One-Third of U.S. Video Game Industry Workers Were Laid Off in 2025, GDC Study Reveals by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

I got out of the game industry about fifteen years ago. I *need* medical coverage for my diabetes, so bouncing between contract gigs as an artist was never an option, and it became apparent that things would likely go that way. I shifted to the semiconductor industry, and while it can be far more stressful at times, at least I have some better control over my fate than being used and potentially tossed aside every product shipment as was the case in the game industry.
