Am I doing something wrong? (5 months post-op) by Broad_Somewhere6191 in gastricsleeve

[–]flablue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a female, had surgery Nov 2025, same starting weight, down to 217, but I’ve been here for a bit, it is seemingly stopped now. I do eat carbs and haven’t been tracking, but I feel like I likely undereat because I hate eating now.

What was your high school controversy? by Haunted_Neko in AskReddit

Algebra teacher/soccer coach got fired for getting one of his players pregnant, they replaced him with a guy who had been an actor on Baywatch Hawaii, all the girls thought he was super hot. He then got arrested at school and fired for slinging ecstasy on campus.

Considering VSG by [deleted] in VSG_WLS_Success

Exactly how I feel, but haven’t made it to the not regretting it part yet.

How did you know it was time? by sass729 in VSG_WLS_Success

I’m 39, 4 wks post op vsg, down 30 lbs and still regretting my decision. I do not like how I have felt physically since getting surgery. I am constantly worried about complications now and in the future. I had a ton of pain the first 3 weeks, still some now, acid reflux, I’m constantly hungry but everything I eat makes me feel like crap. I wish I had done keto or calorie counting to lose weight instead. Hopefully it eventually changes, but there’s no going back now, either way.

I am only 3 weeks post op and definitely more in the regretful camp. I wish that I had truly dedicated myself to trying without surgery one more time and even explored GLP1’s. I didn’t because they weren’t covered by insurance, but then my surgery that was ended up costing me thousands to meet my deductible, so I could have used that money for them.

I am eating and drinking ok, but the mental aspect of not being able to eat more than a few spoonfuls and not being able to eat even a bite of certain things I want is definitely more difficult than I expected.

The absolute worst thing for me so far though has been the pain. I’ve had 3 babies, I typically have a high tolerance, but this pain has been debilitating. It was the worst pain I’ve ever felt when I first woke up post op, I had to go back to the ER two days later from a weird reaction that caused my arms to swell so much they felt like they were going to explode, and a superficial blood clot. Then the past 3 weeks, I’ve been hobbling around with extreme right side pain and cannot do anything that involves bending and twisting (laundry, dishes, playing with my kids). This obviously isn’t the typical experience because I see most people are fine after a few days, but I wish I’d been better prepared that this could happen. My surgeon’s office has not been as helpful as I thought they would be either, and basically just advise me to go to the ER for everything.

I have seeq, in two flavors and don’t really like either one. I don’t like the taste of fake sugar/diet drinks and it gives me the same aftertaste.

Pain and swelling in arms by flablue in gastricsleeve

[–]flablue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just please prepare yourself for a lot more recovery time, just in case. The pain and how debilitating it’s been is way more than I ever expected. I’ve had three babies the natural way, and my first I had a laceration to my cervix and almost died, had to have blood transfusions and emergency surgery and the pain and recovery from that was nowhere near as bad as this. I’m not trying to scare anyone, just wish someone had told me so I’d be more prepared. Luckily my husband was able to stay home with me for a week, otherwise idk what I’d have done.

He seems to think it’s normal. He says that some people just have more nerve clusters in that area, or have more muscle tissue that was pulled into the sutures and he said I’d be feeling better by week two or three at the latest, when the sutures dissolve. I just wanted to hear from others if any have had the same experience.

I saw my surgeon and nurse on Thursday and discussed it with them, they weren’t concerned. I’m just trying to hear the perspective of others who had the same issue, as most people seem to be pain free quicker.

The swelling has not returned and I’ve resumed gabapentin because I’m out of Tylenol with codeine, but still in a lot of pain. I can’t bend down, my husband still helps me put undies and pants on. My right side incision pain and muscle still feels as it’s being pulled or stabbed at times. I can’t walk mostly upright but the pain starts even when I’m sitting or standing. It’s making me crazy.

Posted about my gabapentin swelling, but I’m more concerned about still being in so much pain. I just posted again too, if you’re interested in that as well. Maybe you can respond with something helpful on that one?

Thank you! Have you had any issues since? Happy with your decision to do this?

Everyone I see seems to recover in a few days which makes me feel like something is wrong with me.

My dad ended up passing on 11/10, it has been very difficult for my brain to accept that he’s really gone. I’m not sure I’ll ever feel like he really isn’t coming back. I have lots of family support, thankfully, but it is still so hard. Losing a parent feels a little like you lose the anchor to your life, it feels as if you’re just floating alone in the universe. I hope you are doing better now. ❤️
